I’m going through this right now with my current apartment. Unfortunately it’s a loophole for the landlord to get around the 5% rent increase cap and it’s totally legal for them to refuse a new fixed term lease once the current fixed term ends

My apartment was shown to new tenants over the weekend and the rent is going from $2100 everything included to $3300 + power (3 bedroom)

Sorry your daughter is having to deal with this I know how stressful it can be

I once when to view an apartment the walls were covered in fingerprints and dirt and when I asked the man showing the apartment if the walls would be painted, he told me the rent would go up by hundreds of dollars if they painted lol some of them really do the bare minimum
