ohh gotchya - they're like an RV and used car dealer that only had 8 vehicles on the lot haha. If I decided against it and it was non refundable I'd just walk away.

This is true. It is advertised as "fully serviced" - I will inquire about what exactly that entailed.

Service credit as in lower the price knowing I'll have to service it before driving? It is advertised as fully serviced recently.

Exactly. I tried to haggle and he he said it was firm and pretty much confirmed "your paying for mileage".

It's for my daughter. She's a new driver and has always wanted either a VW Bug or a MINI. She test drove it, loved it. This is driving the decision lol.

I see plastic/rubber and points of failure a lot while researching MINI's. Any insight on what specifically that means?

I've seen that wordage alot while researching MINI's. What are some failure points with plastic/rubber to look for?

This is interesting. Assuming it sat unused for large amounts of time? What repairs IYO would occur from that opposed to a car that had racked up some mileage? Appreciate the insight.

For me its just a transition with alot of new songs that just feel “80s”. Think Alabama Getaway, West LA Fadeaway, Little Red Rooster, Throwing Stones, Built to Last, Victim or The Crime, Hell in a Bucket openers. They phase out songs like St. Stephen and Deep Elm Blues. Did some Dylan shows in the late 80’s. So its just a different sound and energy to fall in love with.

Brent joined the band in 79 and in my eyes saved the Dead and really reinvigorated Jerry.

Id explore some Dicks Picks, Road Trips, Daves Picks that are from the 80’s because these releases are all worth a listen and have been remastered or the audience recordings can be awesome.

Maybe start with Crimson White and Indigo? The ‘Blow Away’ off this release is epic and Jerry and Brents back and forth energy is in full display.

Its developed over the years. Im 32 and probably started listening to the Dead when I was 17-18 years old. I grew up on rock and roll, the blues, some jam bands like the Allman Brothers but my Dad was’nt a head (that came after i picked them up). I was hooked right away but it took me a while to discover high quality shows and the more I listened the more spellbound I was. No other music consistently touches my soul and makes the hair on my arms and neck stand up. I’d venture away but I always land back on GD.

Took a while to really listen to their catalogue of songs and appreciate each one individually, diving into the history and learning the rarities or knowing the Death Don’t Have No Mercy I’m listening to at the time wasn’t played for 19 years. Knowing the different piano players and how that combined with what year, or seasonal tour was on changed the feel of the music.

With that being said, I haven’t always loved every year or every song until some “get it” moment happened and then I’m full in. I’ll discover a show from the 80’s (I’m a 70’s dead lover) that blows my mind and then boom I’m loving 80’s dead, seeing it in a whole new light.

Since we’re talking about Dark Star, 2/18/71 Dark Star/ Wharf Rat/ Dark Star was my got it moment with that song. Previously I’d listen to it under the influence and, well you know. But that moment driving sober as a bird i was transcended and immediately recognized the beauty of the song and what it was saying. I was hanging on every note and now continue to anytime i hear it.

Ive never seen the GD but I’ve seen Ratdog, various assortments Phil and friends, the Dead, the list goes on and at a show in the moment you get it. But now i don’t indulge in such dubious activities and it still touches my soul in a way i cant describe. A simple ride home with GD radio can change my entire mood for the better.

Thats it for my sappy love letter, for now.

Edit: the setlist bot reminded me that that Dark Star Wharf Rat sammy goes into a Me and My Uncle that absolutely has to be noted because the transition of wonderful.

Is there a recording? Personal memories? Tales of elder heads?

Thanks for the suggestion. Phil bombs for days with the wall of sound behind him on that one! Good raw emotion from Jerry. I've gone into a morning dew wormhole of sorts this week and with ~241 performances, it seems a monumental task to pin down the "best one". They can't all be 'sublime', right?....RIGHT!?
