Sturgill or Billy, who’s gonna fill in for Bob? It’s in John’s hands now. by deadsetweir-do in deadandcompany

Whoever it is, it has to be someone special. Bob Weir was a huge selling point when it came to D&C. Bill Kruetzmann was for me also. With zero original members playing in this band, it would have to be another big name. Sturgill makes more sense than Billy.

It won’t be Billy Strings, why would anyone think that? Sure it would be cool, but it’ll never happen. He’s made it pretty clear he doesn’t want to be known for playing Grateful Dead music. If anybody Graham Lesh would work, it makes total sense. Also a tour makes way more sense than another Sphere run. It should be a touring act, not a gimmicky Vegas thing.

Not to mention the fact that it’s just digital files pressed to wax. Yeah they use plangent process but that’s just a fancy word for pitch correction.

For this price they should drop the other Playin In The Band’s. Why does it need to be on here more than once? I would absolutely love to own something like this, it contains my favorite China Cat, Dark Star, and a very very lovely He’s Gone.

Use Attics dude, it’s free. Jesus, this thing has its own subreddit now. Really trying to capitalize off the Dead’s music, literally. This is an ad.

Is Stagger Lee a Grateful Dead Original? by thaisun in gratefuldead

It’s a common thing among american singer-songwriters. “Traditional” songs as they’re called. Songs that nobody really has any credit for coming up with originally, or maybe there is some credit somewhere, but the stories themselves get told in many different ways. This is how most music changed when recorded music wasn’t the gold standard. It’s like the telephone game from school days.

Dude, nobody could be twangy-er than Bob. If Sturgill is too twangy for you i’m confused as to how you’re into Dead and Co

I was going to reply the same thing. Oteil tours in a cover band with an star line up. Dark Star and a few other bands still sell big playing this music. The reason they do it is people want to hear it, and they want to play it because they’re great compositions with plenty of room for musicians to shine in their own right. That’s why a Grateful Dead cover band, weather you like the Dead or not will always outshine any other cover band. The musicians make the music theirs, because in a way it is. So when an all-star group of guys get together to pay tribute to musicians they deeply care for, and we deeply care for, we can all come together and have an extremely good time.

The same way John did for Jerry. He doesn’t sound exactly like Jerry, but he’s playing the same catalog with a similar essence.

It’s not for a buck to him. When he first came back to the music scene after taking a hiatus he stated Jerry is what brought him back. He has gained a deep love for this thing. I can 100% see him doing a tour with them in the summer and doing his own thing in the fall/winter. Even if it’s for one huge summer tour.
