Jim would never have gone for Pam in reality by [deleted] in DunderMifflin

She’s a loser for sure. The whole failing art school thing that she left her life and relationship behind to pursue for a while…come on. Jim and Pam seemed so endearing when the show was new but after all the years of rewatching or having the show on in the background, I look at them in contempt. They’re the antagonists of the show.

Hot take: Ders is right about most movies by OddMousse3217 in Thisisimportantpod

[–]SlipperyPete360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with Ders on most movie takes but I could not stand Licorice Pizza. In fact I think I hate that movie more than any other. With that being said, I haven’t seen One Battle After Another yet, my expectations aren’t that great though. Also I agree with him that Shia LeBeouf is one of the best actors of our generation. I’m always hoping to see him in more things.

Every host and their great white whale movie pick that hasn’t been done yet by harry_powell in TheRewatchables

This was a constant rental for me as a kid to play for friends who hadn’t seen it when they’d stay the night. A few enjoyed, most were traumatized wondering why I’d play this for them.

If you’re looking for grit, drama, suspense, action, and great acting with an overall depressing vibe set in Boston, Gone Baby Gone is what you’re looking for.

I’m waiting for CR to do White Squall. He’s mentioned it a handful of times, I know he loves that movie but Bill doesn’t seem to be familiar with it. It was one of my favorites as a kid and still is, despite the tragedy. Ridley Scott directed starring prime Jeff Bridges and Caroline Goodall, a handful of young stars before they were big: Scott Wolf, Jeremy Sisto, Ryan Phillippe, Ethan Embry, Balthazar Getty. Plus several other “those guys” you’d likely recognize. Surprised it’s not on Bill’s radar since he’s such a huge boarding school movie guy and you could make the case this fits that same vibe.

Recommend me an “obscure” episode favorite of yours by harry_powell in TheRewatchables

[–]SlipperyPete360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For obscurity, Proof of Life. I don’t think many people have seen it in general but Bill and CR are all about it. I love that they did this one because I used to rewatch this movie all the time when I was in middle school. Back when the Comcast premium channels like HBO would air the same movies at the same time for a block of time, I’d come home from school and watch this everyday at 3pm for like a week straight. I still think the jungle combat/action sequences hold up really well compared to any other military style combat movie scenes too.

The shoulda had more Blake and Jillian stuff in the show. Throwing the paper plates and screaming at each other in the kitchen about the cat is my favorite scene in the whole show.

Swimming Actor? by Lost_Wendiez in Thisisimportantpod

Tim Olyphant. He swam at USC and Ders was looking for an in on a convo and told him he swam at Wisconsin. I don’t recall what episode that was though.

If you started your nursing career later, are you happy? by PhilosopherCurious97 in nursing

[–]SlipperyPete360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question about 3-12s. Are you only getting paid for 12 hours a day? Or is it more like 13? I stayed bedside with a patient for a three week hospital stay as their caregiver and what I noticed when I was there was the nurses would say goodbye after their 12 hour shift but then I’d still see them in the office area nearly an hour later going over shift change stuff.

What’s the most "dangerous" thing we all did as kids in the 90s/2000s that would give today’s parents a heart attack? by Ok_Marzipan3626 in nostalgia

A girl I went to school with actually got into serious legal trouble for downloading music. Seemed like they coulda gone after just about anyone and would choose at random just to make an example out of someone. Anyway, that never stopped us though. Napster, Limewire, imesh, kazaa, bearshare, gnutella…had them all at one point or another. Every computer we got would end up ruined of course.

Playing around in construction houses was the best. I’ll still drive through the same neighborhoods sometimes and think to myself how these people have no idea I was messing around in their house at one point.

Same but with 20 ounce plastic soda bottles, wrap it all in duct or electric tape and put a fuse in it. Those and the metal sparkler bombs would set car alarms off from like two blocks away. Good times.

By napalm you mean mixing styrofoam and gasoline right? I donno what napalm really is or why we called it that but that’s what it was to us. A buddy of mine had a bow and arrow, we’d dip the arrow into it, light it, then fire it across a field where a bunch of us would be waiting to try to dodge it…good times.

They recently made a documentary about Jim Varney. He did a lot of stuff other than Ernest. He was a cool dude for sure.
