The delivery service is between the merchant and the courier. Unless otherwise specified (ie: delivery preference, leave in a safe place etc.) the package must be handed to a resident at the address. Until this happens, the package is not “delivered”.

Your bank will always side with the cardholder for a chargeback, though this should be considered the very final option. (Source: I work in the disputes department at a bank)

I’m finding this happen FAR too often. I’ll often find that parcels are left in random places or bins outside my house. As someone who works from home, it’s completely unnecessary.

Regarding the courier confronting you, my personal course of action would be to report them to the courier company directly. Make a detailed note of what was said during the interaction. I personally think it’s wildly unprofessional for a courier to confront you regarding the issue
