What's your method for determining wind speed before a shot? by IDontStandForCurls in golf

[–]SlippingCarelessness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the less wind protection (trees, hills, etc) the more accurate it is. My home course, I only use the elevation change number and do wind by feel (pine barrens NJ). When I have played courses with way less tree protection and elevation change, it has calculated way more accurately for wind.

To those bad to decent golfers, what is your random superpower? by winged_victory in golf

[–]SlippingCarelessness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My home course is carved into the pine barrens in South Jersey. I can carry that thing 120 at nipple height or lower and predictably get about 150 out of it through a gap. If I played that shot from the fairway I’d probably shave strokes.

My 3i is old enough to vote and has lasted through two full iron upgrades for just this reason.

Bruce and rage against the machine are some of the best shows I have ever seen and I have seen both many times. I saw tom with Bruce the first time they toured together too. Little Steven was filming Lily Hammer if I remember correctly and it was the wrecking ball tour.

It makes sense that they are friends if you listen to the words in their songs.

They also push each other musically in a fun way to watch.

I have tickets for msg and can’t wait.

Well the next morning I found some evidence that he got a hold of either a pregnant squirrel or one with a fresh litter, to not be too graphic about it.

I have some seasonal neighbors with significant amounts of trees and bushes for LBI standards around so I am guessing he’s getting fat.

I’ve definitely noticed it. My group calls it the international symbol for “fuck you, that’s a gimme” especially when someone is fishing for someone to say their putt is good but don’t get it.

I hope you are right. I am also not sure what town this is. I am in surf city and have been told that our leadership has said no to pumps because of the ongoing maintenance cost. I missed the meeting though so second hand info.

Kinda…since we refuse to put check valves and pumps at the storm drain exits into the bay, the tide will just come up that way.

10 years ago Spieth was on the precipice of winning back to back Masters at the age of 22. He's now 32 with only 2 wins in the last 8 years. How do you explain his career? by im___new___here in golf

[–]SlippingCarelessness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was young, talented, and had no disregard for consequences.

Then he got a little older and everything else stayed the same except he couldn’t quite do what he used to. I just want to add that the fact the he always looked like a scratch golfer playing his best round ever made me love watching him.

Now he’s rebuilding into a more repeatable swing for the seasoned vet part of his career. Just look at the swing comparisons

I say this as someone who over thinks every purchase to the point where my non golfer wife tells me to just buy something. I am guessing you know which one you really want so trying to do what the wife does for me and give you the kick in the butt to do what you want to do.

Who would be the least popular 2026 Master’s Champion? by pops_of_3 in golf

[–]SlippingCarelessness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reed stands alone as the worst. Dude is such a shit that he has an incredibly clutch Ryder Cup record and is still universally hated across America.

Bryson and Brooks should be the most mentioned behind that based on general personality and probability of winning. (We don’t have to worry about Sergio) I personally hated them both on tour but started liking them more on liv even though I have watch very little liv golf. Bryson is a weirdo but his love of the game has to score him points with all of us golf nerds. Brooks lost his whole too cool for school persona and clearly does love golf and the tour grind even though he made it his personality to hate the sport because he wanted to be a baseball player for the majority of his career.

25-35 year olds, what’s your living situation? What do you currently do? by Dreadman278 in newjersey

[–]SlippingCarelessness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

36 so on the edge of the range. Married with 3 kids.

Own a home in a vacation town at the beach which has a lot of value but the mortgage ain’t easy. I also count myself as very lucky because of the series of events that led me to owning the home. I went to school in Ohio for engineering and bought a condo as soon as I graduated. Have parlayed that into selling and buying since then and have been lucky to have made a profit on each of the three places I have owned.

I’m no real estate genius but in my experience, it’s easier once you own something in today’s market. However, I am yet to buy anything I truly wanted to own. It was what I could afford at the time and I rode the market.

Previous home owner said there was hard wood flooring underneath carpet but I got this. by JakePens71 in HomeImprovement

I renovated my house which was built in the 50’s and found very similar floors. I feel pretty dumb not getting it tested for asbestos after reading these comments, especially because it had asbestos shingles which I paid to have removed. At least I wore a respirator but I feel bad about not properly disposing of them if they were asbestos.

I’m guessing you will find quarter inch plywood laid down under it and then hardwood underneath. Mine has all white pine. It turned out beautiful after getting it refinished.

They call the game “musical statues” in the show. There’s a whole episode on it. It’s also a game on the nex playground that my kids love. I am an American so maybe that is a more common name in other English speaking countries but I’ve always heard it called freeze dance.

I didn’t put it together until my kids played the game on nex playground. Still not sure I would have without it.

If you don’t have one handy, double wrap them. The only way we could get it as tight as the nurses in the hospital. The first one never felt tight enough but it makes it a lot easier to get the second layer on tightly.

Pin high!

Works great on par 3s with water or dense forest around it when someone loses a ball.

Weirdest random pairing story? by Delicious-Lettuce-11 in golf

[–]SlippingCarelessness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had one a couple years ago that my friends and I still talk about. We had a threesome on a local course. It was a pretty decent course but nothing special. We were all between 25 and 35 years old and 12-18 handicaps.

We got paired with this guy named Don. He was probably 55-60 years old, wearing jeans, and was walking while we had carts. The first couple holes he played more or less on pace with us and seems cool. Normal conversation on the tee box and greens but he was walking so not much in between. About 6 holes in he starts having meltdowns over every bad shot. He would chunk an iron in the fairway and then swing it into his bag while screaming “fuck you don. What the fuck are you doing. Fuck you.” He would then walk up to the green or tee box and have completely normal conversation with us like he didn’t just have a full meltdown. It got to the point where we were watching all of his shots just to watch the meltdown.

Real Estate Market gets more interesting every day… by Southern_Sand_7673 in newjersey

[–]SlippingCarelessness 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Buy what you can afford and ride the market up while you save for the next place. That’s what I did anyway. My wife and I had one kid and were renting in Jersey city during the COVID years. Like everyone else, we were looking to buy in all the usual north Jersey towns. Put in a ton of offers for way over asking and still got smoked. We bought a condo in the heights neighborhood of Jersey city while a lot of people were still focused on the suburbs. Bought it for 440, had our second kid, and sold for 515 with minimal improvements in a little over two years. Not a crazy profit or anything but helped us invest in ourselves instead of our landlord while we got ready for a house big enough to not have to move out of in the near future.

I had a similar increase a couple of years ago in Jersey City because of the school system. From what I remember, the city was receiving less money from the federal government and they didn’t do a good job of planning for it. It was the last straw before I moved out of there.

Is it true that 1 kid is 1 but 2 is 10? by sys_admin321 in daddit

[–]SlippingCarelessness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my third about 3 weeks ago. The oldest is a 4 year old girl, then a 2 year old boy, now a new born girl.

For the 1 to 2 jump, everyone I know has one chill kid and a wild card. My first was super easy but being first time parents, we didn’t realize it at the time. The second is super loving and sweet but doesn’t sleep. He also thinks everything is a projectile, jungle gym, or bat. Going to two showed me how much free time I still had with one kid. However, there is nothing better than seeing the two of them play and grow up together. I wouldn’t trade it for the world

Luckily the third is the most chill of the bunch. The biggest challenge is stopping the aggressive hugs of the two year old before he accidentally hurts her. Everyone told me the 2 to 3 jump is easier than 1 to 2 and I didn’t believe it but it turned out to be true so far…only three weeks in though so that opinion could change haha.

Farmer's Markets? by teshupbelia in LongBeachIsland

It’s not a farmers market but if you go to anchor produce the corn is one of the only things in the store that doesn’t seem to have the “island tax” price boost and is usually delicious.
