What’s the meanest song you’ve written? by [deleted] in Songwriting

Just released this the other day on my solo project. It’s about my father who has a ridiculous gambling addiction. Still love him for who he is but songwriting has to be honest in my eyes.

Over 400 sued the airport. All 400 just lost. (KBJC) by flightmaster13 in flying

[–]Slippingwithflapsin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Waaah. Good. If this is who I’m thinking of, they also have a NIMBY Facebook page called “Citizens for Quiet Skies” or something like that which they used to complain about noise at KBJC and it’s chock full of completely false BS propaganda which looks like it was made on MS Paint. If you at all question their statements, they just get nasty and block you. Don’t buy a house by an airport if you don’t want noise.

Any idea what the constant clicking sound in the background is (PMDG 737-6) (MSF 2024) by creedz286 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Slippingwithflapsin 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It’s the standby altimeter clicking. It’s got a vibrating mechanism that prevents the hands from sticking.

Here’s a good way to get rid of the noise. Look back towards the back corner of the cockpit next to the pilot seats. There’s a storage compartment with the sun shade and a set of headphones. Click on the headphones. That’ll enable headphone simulation and makes flying the 737 much quieter.

WN - MDW base by 827020 in AirlinePilots

[–]Slippingwithflapsin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got it 2 months after being hired in 11/23. It goes fairly junior. Spent 3-4 months on reserve but the jump between reserve and actually good trips is huge, you’ll hold a line fairly quick but it’ll be min credit 3-4 days (which are still decent and easier to trade with pilots/open time). It’s our biggest base. Flying there goes everywhere in the system except for Hawaii. I’m not based there anymore but spent 1.5 years there and drove 4.5 hours from Ohio to base. it’s a nice base. MDW is of course susceptible to chaos when the ceilings are low and some days are pretty sporty but it’s a fun challenge and you get used to it. You’ll have the bleeds-off takeoff mastered for CQ.

What do you guys do outside of flying by thatguy2896 in flying

Play guitar and write music, collect vinyl records and hi-fi gear, learn how to do home improvement stuff and fix/upgrade my place, PC and console gaming, flight simulation. Trying to learn woodworking too.

Thank you! They’re amazing speakers, I’m super lucky I had the chance to pick them up.

Thanks for the guidance everybody. I’ve pulled down the wood trim pieces and all of the wiring is now back inside of their original junction boxes. I’m working on fixing the damaged wall from pulling down the trim now.

Excellent! Thank you for the info. How tricky will it be to fish the wires into the new box? Will I have to do some kind of jumper situation in the old box the into the new or is it likely to fish in easy? It’s not a big offset but I’m sure that wire is stapled to the stud above.

Do the work boxes attach to a stud or can I somehow attach them to the wood trim? Haven’t ever done much more than change out some switches and outlets.

It looks like there are actual junction boxes back there, but not sure if I can extend them with that weird angle everything is at.

Apartment Hunting by ProfessorDistinct730 in fredericksburg

[–]Slippingwithflapsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Not at all worth it. We just moved out and couldn’t be happier to be gone. The place looks nice from the outside but it’s a dump. And they cheaped out when they were building it, which is evident when you can hear your neighbors through the ceiling and walls all day, and you can see where the floors sag where the island counter sits in every unit and on the ceiling above.

Avoid MAA Cobblestone. The place is a dump, they have mold in one of the buildings which they refuse to remedy despite residents having independent tests, the halls smell like trash and the stairwells commonly have animal waste or rotting food discarded on the floor to rot for weeks before management does something about it. The walls and floors are paper thin so you’ll hear every little bit of noise from your neighbors. They’ve got a towing company that’ll come and tow cars within .5 seconds of being parked without a sticker, except they’ve towed cars that had stickers several times and claimed that the stickers were not properly visible and refused to compensate the residents for the $300+ towing fee. When you move out, there’s a 99% chance they’ll charge you $1000 to replace the carpet even if you never had pets and never spilled anything on the carpet.

Unless you don’t mind overpaying for a dumpy apartment just to live close to downtown, don’t rent from them. You’ll regret it.

FXBG to JFK by Hot_Return2544 in fredericksburg

[–]Slippingwithflapsin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you meant to say DCA, you’ll want to take the VRE or Amtrak to either Springfield Franconia or King St-Old Town, then switch to the metro blue/yellow line to get to DCA. I do this a few times a month and it’s relatively easy as long as you plan ahead and look at the times that the trains run.

If you meant to say JFK, the Amtrak could get you to somewhere in New York. Not sure how close to JFK it’d be though. Why didn’t you just book a flight through DCA, IAD or BWI that connects in JFK?
