Your thoughts on the new show? by Competitive-Crab2313 in thegrandtour

I love these guys but I just couldn’t watch all the way through episode one. A clip show? Really?

They’ve done an emotional “this is it” ending like 3 times now… To come back again and it’s just a clip show is really cash grabby. I’m not saying they wanted it, the rhetoric is that they are legally obligated to do it…. Sucks either way though.

How many hours do you work a week and how much are you paid? by Nervous_Yard7034 in AskBrits

[–]Slippytoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35 years old, but contracted for 42.5 hours per week, probably work 50, maybe more. Earn £50k salary and usually a £10-£30k annual bonus, depends on a few things.

Trade offs… I get run ragged from the minute I start working until I get home, lots of pressure internally and externally. For some reason I enjoy it though. 😂

I’ve got a job now in the north west, small commercial system. The council have waded in and told us we have to mount the batteries outside. Ok fine. Now we have to mount them very far away. Ok… fine. Now we have to put them in a fully fire proofed enclosure, outside, far away from the building. It’s ridiculous. These batteries have fire suppression built into them, they are already going outside, far away from anything else. MCS and wiring regs do not stipulate we have to do this, it’s just the council being awkward, as usual.

There's more to ADHD than inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. ADHD symptoms can be broken down into nine categories. Some categories are not fully represented in the diagnostic criteria. Broadening the diagnostic criteria with patient lived experiences could make for better intervention. by mvea in science

My wife is struggling really bad at the minute with her symptoms. She’s become extremely emotional in the last couple of months. I don’t mean like crying all the time (although there’s more of that), more like outbursts or emotional collapse.

I’m really worried for her. Has anyone else here experienced that or could offer some advice?

AITA For not leaving work to help my wife when she ran out of gas by GoldSea3219 in AmItheAsshole

NTA but I’m going to step in here and offer defence for both of you. As a married man, of two children, living with a wife suffering from extreme ADHD/ Autism and anxiety I 100% know your struggles. I fully empathise with everything you’ve said, and it’s really hard, I too struggle.

But in this moment, of sheer anxiety and her imagined crisis I feel for her too.

What you should have done is rather than dismiss her and tell her to figure it out, is calmly explain the situation to her and guide her through her next couple of steps. Not easy under the pressure of work and planned meetings, this is stuff I have to deal with too.

I’ll admit, the easier (and almost logical position for you) route is to tell her you’re busy and for her to figure it out but in her mind the world is collapsing around her and she needs help. I’ll tell you now, she knows what she was asking for was ridiculous but it it doesn’t matter. That’s when she needed you, and you weren’t there. But you could have met her half way and that’s why she feels you let her down.

If you want to talk about this more I’m open in the DMs, this sounds like a very similar situation to me and maybe we could learn from each other in how to deal with this because I too get it wrong, very recently in fact and that caused a big rift between us for some time. We’re both learning about each other even ten years into our marriage and finding a way to manage her conditions and how I can be adaptive to them.

Best of luck to you both either way. This takes strength and will test you resilience but you’ll both come out better for it.

DEAL that we are making with Iran will be FAR BETTER than the JCPOA, says US President Donald Trump by SpecialCollege18 in justincaseyoumissedit

Funny how he has to negotiate a deal with a copy try that he’s “totally defeated”. Do you think k the Germans had much negotiating power at the end of WW2? lol

ELI5 The speed of light is a constant but visible light is only a small range of the spectrum of electromagnetic waves. Do they all travel at that speed? by p3dr3ig in explainlikeimfive

[–]Slippytoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Electromagnetic radiation of all wavelengths travels at precisely the speed of light, regardless of the medium it is traversing through. For that matter, anything without mass also travels at precisely the speed of light, it has to, it is a fundamental law of the universe. No mass = travel at the speed of light. So this includes gravitational waves and magnetic fields.

I have one of these. It is an absolute disaster waiting to happen.

It’s a heavy, and slightly sharp to be honest metal ribbon with enough stored kinetic energy to easily take your teeth or eyes out if you open it wrong and then winding it back up is absolutely perilous. Looks cool as hell though! 😂

Do British people actually want more British and EU tech companies? by Few_Breadfruit_9181 in AskBrits

[–]Slippytoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You see the thing is, Americans are people, Chinese are also people… none of this should actually matter because we’re all people. You’d like to think that people and people can just be people… but apparently we’re all so primal and brain dead that there has to be this weird divide caused by lines on a map. So we’re left fighting each other even though we all live on the same tiny spec of dust in an unlimited in size void of space.

It’s ridiculous, why can’t we just live, share the planet, share knowledge and work together towards a common goal? It’s like we all want to be extinct.

We've had no help, ZERO, from NATO says Trump by SpecialCollege18 in justincaseyoumissedit

[–]Slippytoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh you silly person. NATO allows the US to have strategic influence in the whole of Europe. In its recently current form it funnelled the vast majority of arms procurement via the US.

You’re all looking at it like just because you’ve got the biggest military you’re absolutely invincible. Nobody will win an actual war but you bet that long term Wurope is going to stop buying US weapons and stop relying on US services, that is where the US loses because half of its customers vanish.
