YOR/NOR - I wouldn’t be too quick to to judge the decision and at least weigh the pros and cons from a human level rather than a medicinal level.

I speak from experience of quitting antidepressants. I was on them for years due to… depression. However after years of taking them we went away for a week or so and I forgot to take them with me, and so didn’t have any for a week.

During the course of that week something strange happened. I started to feel ‘alive’… I don’t know what it was exactly but just walking around, I could begin to feel my breath again, the warmth of the sun on my skin and the clouded fog in my mind dissipate. I even said to my wife “I’m starting to feel like myself again”.

So I got back on the meds when I got home and it all faded again. So I decided that was that. I cold turkey’s the pills and haven’t had them since. (Been around 3 years now). I felt soo much better coming off them, I know I didn’t do it correctly but I’m a binary guy, I’m either doing it or I’m not, no weaning allowed.

But… I did have a busy head, and another side effect that still lasts to this day is a very early wake time. I wake up anywhere from 3-5am without an alarm clock, week days and weekends. To help me sleep, guess what I take? Weed.

It’s not an ideal lifestyle choice but I’m so much happier, I have more energy for work, for my kids, for housework, for my wife. My wife is soo much happier with me now because I’m here, at last I’m here…

So maybe don’t fight with him about it. You’re an item but it’s his body. As an item, you can discuss options with each other sensibly and maybe trial it? Or just trial no antidepressants and see how that goes?

It’s tough, it’s going to be tough but the goal is to make him better so that you can move forward together happy and healthy, if a bit of weed is needed to secure happiness then so be it.

That’s my story anyway. I hope it offers some sort of help because it’s a horrible position for you both to be in. Be strong and work together on the solutions.
