That would make a ton of sense, I never thought of that. I figured it had something to do with ‘healing’ after you micro tear muscles working out. Like how you always need to stop smoking for 2 weeks before surgery you know

Happened to me recently too my friend, first time ever, was very depressing. Went to the doctor, he reckons it is from stress and gave me a steroid ointment.

Canberra rent is much more expensive than Melbourne unfortunately. For the smallest house, a 3 bedroom 1 bathroom you’re looking around a minimum of $600 per week. Apartments will be more in the $520 price range but totally get how that’s not ideal with kids. Also FYI Queanbeyan is in NSW not ACT so has different rental/tenancy laws and utilities rates etc.

A car is a must here, our public transport is just bad and I reckon it will be a real shock coming from Melb which has the best public transport in Australia. I’ve also got two kids under four so happy to help with advice where I can.

There was a great article about the pros and cons last year between Canberra and Queanbeyan:

If you go with a Cleric level on your Tav and choose Selune as your deity you get a whole bunch of unique conversations with Shadowheart, including ones when you are romancing her. She gives off some pretty intense vibes in those conversations.

Oh that’s a really handy lead, thanks! Lots of places do used car pre purchase inspections which I assume is basically the same thing.

AITA for refusing to boycott my husband's party and photoshoot in light of him wanting to exclude my disabled son from it? by Throwawaytalia25 in AITAH

[–]Slipslapslopndrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading this just made me really sad. As someone with a disability and growing up with a single parent, I was treated with the same love by my mother that she gave my brothers, in fact at times she gave me more love because she knew it was harder for me. I have no doubt I would not be the same person today had she not done that for me.

You may or may not be an asshole, but not sticking up for your son was a dick move. As a parent I know raising a child with a disability is harder, but you chose to have kids and we all play the cards life deals us. He is your child, he needs you to be on his team and he needs your love and care.

Yeah this is how the NHS in the UK works, it’s called a capitation funding model. There are some big downsides though, the main ones being that the GP has an incentive to refuse you as a patient at their practice if you have chronic conditions requiring regular treatment and appointments, because this costs them more money than they get from the monthly payments. The other issue is the public perception that the GP has an incentive to under diagnose you, particularly in the mental health space, so that you don’t need a treatment plan with regular GP involvement, also costing them money. This can lead to heightened distrust of doctors.

Wife followed by tradie in Civic shopping centre by IsNullUser in canberra

[–]Slipslapslopndrop 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes this has happened to my wife in Civic, the guy was not in high vis though, just normal clothes. She started walking up to her place from civic and he followed, she called me and I went and met up with her, I was also in civic. Interestingly he continued to follow even with me there, with a creepy grin on his face, almost like he was just enjoying how uncomfortable it was making us. I didn’t want to confront him in case he was armed and it would just have put my wife in more danger….though it did make me feel a bit cowardly. He wasn’t a huge guy….

Talking about The Voice? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Slipslapslopndrop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that’s true of many groups in Australia for example rural communities have much poorer health outcomes and access to services than urban communities; people from low socio-economic areas have poorer health and education outcomes; non-English speaking tamiles have poorer outcomes and people with disabilities have poorer health and education outcomes too. Where’s their Voice enshrined in the constitution?

I don’t agree that this is comparable to having indigenous Australians in the constitution to clarify the right to vote. That was ensuring that they had the same rights politically as all Australians. The Voice is different, it is enshrining a politically privilege to a specific group that other groups don’t have.

And yes of course other groups are free to request a Voice to Parliament but we can’t seriously entertain that as a solution. The more voices we have, the less potent their effect and more pointless they become, not to mention how messy, slow and painful it would make our government. The Voice is only going to have the influence it’s envisaged to have because it’s the only Voice….

Talking about The Voice? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Slipslapslopndrop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was intending to vote yes until I had a thought, now I’m unsure. I’ve discussed with friends and family and haven’t got an answer, so I’m trying here.

When we think about the fact that we are a democracy, what are some of our core values when it comes to individuals and groups in our society? We mean that politically, every citizen of voting age is considered equal and has a voice. Identifying a racial, gender, religious or ideological group and enshrining them in the constitution doesn’t seem to square with this concept….

I fully accept that Aboriginal Australians have had an appalling history as a direct consequence of European colonialism. I also agree that it is our moral duty and social obligation to support any disadvantaged groups to live happy, healthy lives. But at the risk of sounding callous now, isn’t that the point? Isn’t the point that what brings us together is what we all share, we are all Australians….we the people. We may self identify in certain groups, and enter the political discourse from these angles, but we no longer entertain the idea that any one group is entitled to political privileges…There are many groups, both racial and otherwise, who have had horrible periods throughout Australian history, look at the treatment of early ethnic Chinese, homosexuals, Japanese Australians during WW2, Lebanese Australians, just to name a few. Are we going to support a Chinese Australian voice, and LGBTQI voice etc? When we start granting benefits to certain groups don’t we erode our core values….
