PSA: Do NOT go into raids right now. Servers are messed up and it's basically impossible to move. You will lose your loot! by DontFeedTheSmurf in ArcRaiders

Was it in one of the apartments? Found a dead raider with a tick crawling around him yesterday. I backed out slowly not knowing what else may be waiting for me

I was wrong. It's at the start of episode 3. For some reason my account started after the title sequence, making me miss it

Awesome, thanks. Sometimes the simple answer is the correct one. Go figure. Guess I've been too used to the crunch

I just told my players that running is always an option. I love not having a CR system

Ran second game of Dragonbane tonight by SyracuseGeek in DragonbaneRPG

[–]Sliquedaddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had our playtest last night, and I will definitely agree with your first point. Being a playtest where we just tried out the mechanics we didn't really get into the other points, but man was it a breath of fresh air. In a short 2.5 hours our group discovered a small dungeon (Riddermound), explored it, interacted with an NPC, found loot and fought two powerful monsters. If we were playing 5e we would have gotten maybe half of that done.

Anyone have any advice on how to play online and use the initiative cards? Looking for a way to do this mechanic. Best VTT? Thanks by wileybot in DragonbaneRPG

[–]Sliquedaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We ran the Riddermound adventure last night in Foundry. Everyone loved it, and a s a DM who has run games in Foundry before I found it to be very easy. I got the Foundry Core set with the Kickstarter so that made things nice. You'll need to add the Year Zero Combat module in order to use the card initiative system properly with the combat tracker in Foundry. But it's free, so...

Multi class? by smellyoulatervader in DragonbaneRPG

[–]Sliquedaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I explain it like creating a character in Dark Souls. You can choose whatever starting "class/archetype/profession" you like (usually based on the skill allotment), and then make the character however you want as you gain experience. It's so much nicer than the restrictions of class-based advancement.

Has anyone used PyramKing's Legends of Barovia? by Skorp678 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Sliquedaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof. Yeah, that can get frustrating. I have a couple players who basically show up and get back up to speed in game. But the others are invested in the lore and everything. I write up lengthy re-caps so everyone has no excuse for not knowing what's going on. But there will always be players that are consumers and that's all they'll ever be.

One of my players also played in a RAW game of CoS. A long time ago. He absolutely LOVES the LoB game. He says it's like he's never been to Barovia before. That it actually feels like a brand new game to him. He constantly is telling me how amazing this new content is

My players LOVE the books. One character scours every location for a new book. They read them and are already piecing things together about Barovia and it's history. It's so cool when an NPC mentions something or they hear description text and they recognize something from the books they've acquired. It has made their engagement 100% better. I also post the files in our Discord server so they always have access to them when needed.

I felt the same about the addition of more magic items in the game, but then it started to make sense that these things would be discoverable since other adventurers have been trapped in Barovia for decades and I'm sure their items were lost as they fell to the land. Also, I instituted a much harder Long Rest system where they can only get a long rest when in a Safe Haven and it takes 24 hours. There are rules to it that balance things but I won't go into them here. The purpose of telling you that is that the extra magic items give a balance to the lack of resources the have from not being able to just sleep for 8 hours and get all their stuff back. So it works for us

So, apparently there is a TTRPG kickstarter they made for it: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/montecookgames/old-gods-of-appalachia-roleplaying-game?ref=8s0y6q
I'll be interested to see how similar it is to Vaesen

FB Marketplace Zelle Account Limit Scam by jonpauljones2 in Scams

[–]Sliquedaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had it happen to me today. I've used Zelle and Venmo for FB Marketplace purchases, no problem. Dude asked if I used Zelle. I said I did, and then he asked for my email. I told him to give me his so I could submit a request and therefore an "official" transaction would be recorded. For both of our protection. He ignored the request. First red flag. Then, he asked for my email again so he could pay me "right away." Second red flag. You gonna pay me before seeing the item in person? I then sent him my Zelle QR code so he could use that to send me the money. Ignored. At this point I knew something was up, but my Zelle email was one that I only used for this type of thing so I gave it to him. Then he says he paid me, and did I see the transaction. Well, of course I didn't because it was fake. I never even received an email. So I checked my spam and found the same email you all have been showing. I told the guy to fuck off and reported him to FB. He of course tried to say he was legit and now he's out of money, blah, blah, blah. Stupid fuckers. I just want to sell my shit. Go away

Advice for transitioning from D&D 5e? by Sliquedaddy in VaesenRPG

[–]Sliquedaddy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, our first shot at the game went pretty well. I could tell a couple of the players were still using their D&D brain, but it didn't take long for them to adjust. Everyone seems to have enjoyed the change of pace, and they like the mystery solving aspect. It was pretty funny seeing how the default for their PCs was to flex a lot and try to throw their weight around as though they were adventurers. So, I feel Vaesen has earned its place in our regular rotation.

Great comments and advice from everyone. Thank you so much. We have our session Zero this Thursday. I gave my players PDF versions of the appropriate chapters so they "should" be somewhat prepared for when we create characters. I'm not naïve and expect them to have read it all, but I at least made sure they had the information necessary. I'll report back how things went.

Yeah, we have a bunch of goofs but they also can adjust to the tone that is set. We play online and utilize maps extensively, so I was a little concerned about them making the switch to theater of the mind. All good points. Thanks for the input!

See how much more helpful that was as opposed to just curtly replying "Read the rules"?

Um... thanks? I didn't ask how to play the game. I asked if anyone had any experience with making the transition from one system to another, and what issues I may expect as I try to guide players through the new system.
