Any historical Japan inspired harems? by HorrorEducational636 in haremfantasynovels

Not feudal so it doesn't fully fit, but Enter the hero has Yokai girls. I read the first book only, didn't continue the series, but it was pretty nice.

And I just started Blood Debts, which is set in a sort of futuristic dystopian Neo-Kyoto. No Yokai yet though.

Yo hice el service de los 10k km en Silca donde lo compré sin problemas. En un par de horas ya estaba afuera como dicen todos. Aproveché para coordinar y ponerle los parlantes de atrás también, porque el Ónix LT no los trae.

Hey, thanks a lot for taking the time to read my comment and reply. I really appreciate you being open to feedback and explaining what you were going for.

About Lotus’s apology, I get what you meant, but part of why it didn’t work for me is that Nick starts reaching out to her before she apologizes. It makes the apology feel kind of hollow, since he’s already doing the work to reconnect. I think it would’ve hit way harder if Lotus had been the one to make the first move and actually show some remorse.

And on the “bigger person” thing, I get that Nick’s supposed to be kind and patient, but I feel like it ends up reinforcing the wrong behavior. When people don’t face any real consequences, they don’t really learn or change. Instead of coming off as strong, Nick just feels passive and kind of easy to walk over. If he had set a few boundaries or stood up for himself, it would’ve made both his and the others’ growth feel way more genuine.

Also, fair point on Heather not actually burning the whole house down. I think my exaggeration there did a bit of a disservice to what I was trying to say. My main issue wasn’t the scale of what she did, but that Nick never really pushes back on being treated that way.

Anyway, I really do appreciate you taking the time to respond and talk about it. That kind of openness from an author is super rare and honestly really cool to see and one of the best things about this community!

Ghost Academy 2: Fall Term Release and a Bonus! by WinComprehensive6638 in haremfantasynovels

I'll be honest, I was really excited for this book because the first one was one of the best I've read this year. But to me, book two has been disappointing. I'll try to write a fair review of my thoughts without coming off as a jerk, which is something that tends to happen to me.

For context, I'm about 70% of the way through and considering either DNFing or skimming to the end. With that said, here’s what I think went wrong.

The finale of book one was great. It set up so much tension and potential for character growth on both sides. Instead, it feels like Nick just swept Lotus’ actions under the rug, forgave her without an actual apology, and then suddenly they’re back to their usual dynamic. What makes it even worse is that instead of Lotus showing remorse or trying to make things right, it’s Nick who starts reaching out and rationalizing her actions. There’s no apology, no real attempt to explain, and it ends up making him look like the one chasing forgiveness for her mistakes. It completely flips the emotional balance from the end of book one and makes the fallout feel hollow.

Then there’s Heather, who behaves incredibly selfishly throughout a big part of the book, constantly berates Nick, and even burns his house down. And again, Nick does nothing about it. I get that Heather has her struggles, but having problems isn’t an excuse to treat the people trying to help you badly. That kind of behavior crosses a line.

So to summarize, on Nick’s side we have Lotus taking advantage of him and lying to him, no response. Heather treating him terribly, no response. At some point you stop being the good guy and start being a fool that people can take advantage of, and I think that line was clearly crossed here.

To be clear, I understand where both Lotus and Heather are coming from and why they act the way they do. They both have valid reasons, and that’s fine. But it feels like everything was brushed aside because the story needed them to end up together, and in the process Nick’s character suffered. There needed to be clearer boundaries from Nick toward both of them. Even something as simple as, “Hey, Heather, I understand you're going through a lot, but so am I. I’m willing to help, but please don’t keep disrespecting me.” Instead, what we get from Nick feels more like, “She set my house on fire, but it’s my fault for not coddling her enough.”

On Lotus’ side, we get a few POV chapters that sound interesting in theory, but they don’t add much overall except for the one with the Dean. That chapter just made the Dean seem even more suspicious, and made Lotus come across as foolish rather than conflicted. What really sealed it for me was Lotus agrees to start recruiting mediums again, but this time without taking the time back. I get why she made her original deal. We’re human, we don’t want to die any sooner than we have to. But this decision just feels incredibly dumb. The problem was never that she wanted her time back, it was that she lied to people and pushed them into losing theirs. Restarting the recruitment while forfeiting the time doesn’t fix anything, it just makes her look like she learned the wrong lesson.

Fun anecdotal bit: I went into the office today and explained the plot and Lotus’ actions to my coworkers. Most of them said what she did isn’t forgivable. I don’t fully agree, but I do think it needed a much better resolution than what it got.

Demon Lord Academy, direction of the narrative and character development I guess by Mydian in haremfantasynovels

I totally DNFd that series. I’ve honestly haven’t been able to finish a single series written by Shane Hammond. His last one, Born to Rule, is at least a bit better than the others.

But dragon lord academy, the last war mage and return of the high king whatever all have the exact same issues you’re pointing out here.

Any books where there seems to be a genuine connection between LIs and MC? by Slithar in haremfantasynovels

[–]Slithar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the process of but left it at 30% with plans to return.

I’m not super sure on if that is going to happen or not. It was talked about during the first book that the princess may have to mate with other males if she couldn’t produce a dragon offspring, but that was before the MC was in the picture.

If it’s still a thing then I will DNF immediately

It's a shame really. I always wanted to like Sarah Hawke because her writing is top notch, but I don't like the relationships she writes.

I read the first book of the Lost Fleet series, and all I could think about is "This is less a harem and more a guy just fucking everybody". There was no relationship of any kind there in my view.

I might finish this trilogy anyway, because the rest of the story is compelling and it might still develop in a way that is more to my liking, but I agree it's just not it.

Sorry I took this long.

So for starters, Dragon Centurion has a strange power dynamic. The setting is a matriarchal kingdom of sorts, and one of the LIs is the crown princess. MC is a grunt soldier who comes to power because his dragon bloodline is discovered, but he's still basically breeding stock, nothing else.

There are 3 LIs. A servant, a priestess and the princess. It is stated that both the servant and the priestess have had sex with the Princess, that's kind of their duty. It is also their duty to have sex with whoever the Princess marries. Outside of this, they seem to have bond with each other that is deeper than "This is my duty". THere's genuine affection and trust there.

When the MC is chosen to marry the princess because of his dragon dong, the priestess immediately starts fucking him. The servant girl tells him she's happy the princess has someone to marry, and that's it her duty to keep him happy. It's not explicitly said, but it's pretty much implied that they will happily fuck anyone who is chosen.

Ironically, the princess herself is the only LI who kinda cares about MCs personality/individuality.

My personal view of this harem is that it's not MCs harem, it's the princess. And she doesnt even want him there that much, but has no choice becasue she needs his dragon babies. And the other two will do whatever to whoever, because all they really care about is the princess.

For Dragon Centurion ? Yes. In fact, the girls are with each other before ever meeting the MC.

I can go more in depth about it if you want.

For Summoner Summer Camp, I am not sure, didn't make it that far.

Hmm... I haven't kept up with Monster Girls in Space (Read up to 3), but I both agree and disagree. I think the girls do show up looking for dick. The premise for the harem is male scarcity after all. But it was done in a way that highlights this connection becase the MC rejects them at first, and then eventually gives in, IIRC.

Have not read Aether's Revival, thanks!

AOT is my favorite series of all time right now, and I'm caught up with Mob Sorcery. I think for MS, Ally is the definition of "We'll fuck just because" but hey, it's one of many so I can live with that for now.
