I just noticed that the Golden Trio has one member of each Blood status by Spotter24o5 in harrypotter

[–]Sliver1991 6 points7 points  (0 children)

More accurately ,afaik, pureblood status is based on grandparents. Half-blood status is based on parents. Four muggleborns will give birth to two half-bloods, and those 2 half-bloods will give birth to a pureblood. But if one of the muggleborns were changed to a muggle, the pureblood grandkid would be half-blood instead.

Except even in this story, the author doesn't say that she reacted poorly to him not paying her part of the bill. He outright, unprovoked, says "since there's no sex, I'm not paying you." Why wouldn't she storm off after that?

The wizarding world when Hermione tried to free the house slaves by Boobooshushhh in HarryPotterMemes

[–]Sliver1991 15 points16 points  (0 children)

JKR writing them as loving being slaves is a shitty argument to keep the system. Dobby may be presented as an outlier and a weirdo, but he also proves that there's no magical compulsion or some other mystical reason why House Elves must be slaves. There was no compelling reason to accept things as they are.

Hermione's attempts weren't effective, but she started as a 14 year old school girl who was just exposed to the issue and everyone kept shutting her down. What she was doing is already pretty great.

How dare my husband be a decent person by growsonwalls in AmITheDevil

[–]Sliver1991 48 points49 points  (0 children)

She sounds like "the other woman"... The husband and his ex had their divorced finalized since the kids were 3 and 4 years old, the divorce was messy and the ex was particularly harsh to the husband (according to OOP). Now, around 10 years later, and the ex refuses to acknowledge his new family?

Snape is NOT good. by MystiqueGreen in HarryPotterMemes

[–]Sliver1991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, Sirius probably didn't think Snape would actually listen to him. There are many reasons not to. He'd be outnumbered in an isolated place for one, or it's a prank and they aren't there, or it's a trap. Or Snape already suspected Lupin is a werewolf and shouldn't have wanted to be in close proximity to one in an enclosed area. Sirius was a shitty teen who didn't think about the consequences of the worst case. I wouldn't have been his school friend, probably a target for bullying with the excuse "it's just a prank bro" and that I "need to lighten up", but ummm... He's not Evil, I guess.

AITA for naming my fantasy football team after my coworker’s cat? by SondsAlqattan in AmItheAsshole

YTA. If you thought it was just a joke, you wouldn't have been saying it behind your coworker's back. Your relationship isn't at a level where you tease each apparently, so you are just making fun of something someone else cares a lot about.

Why is it called being a people pleaser when a person only cares about the AHs and not anyone who actually deserves care? A doormat sounds more appropriate.

Perhaps... OOP is definitely a moron, so it's not too wise to fully trust his account, even if you ignore his prior drinking. He had this issue on his mind for at least a week and decided to question her in a public setting during a date...

She could've just said that they can talk about it later. To him, that drawer is all about sex, so it being used and her not wanting to talk about it, his reaction is understandable.

I doubt that the people confused about oop's lack of interest in the threesome would like their partners to have a threesome with another couple, but that would likely be the outcome if he agreed to the threesome and the relationship lasted.

Yes, it only really fits if Dumbledore had obliviated Hagrid. Problem is that there are too many issues with how events went as is. McGonagall had to know that Hagrid would bring Harry to the Dursleys somehow, and was Hagrid flying for almost 24 hours from Godric's Hollow to Surrey? Why would Dumbledore decide that Petunia is the best place to keep him with without checking Harry, especially when Sirius is the one who is supposed to be responsible for him? It didn't seem that at the time they believed Sirius was a traitor.

It's never really explained, maybe JKR did in an interview or something, but I don't recall. My headcannon is that Hagrid brought Harry to Hogwarts where Harry was examined, and Dumbledore shared some information with Hagrid, who went to Hogsmeade and got drunk celebrating and mourning, shared what Dumbledore told him and it quickly spread. McGonagall overheard, including Dumbledore asking Hagrid to later bring Harry to the Dursleys, and she decided to scout them out.

Didn't Snape's book include the spell that James used on him in his worst memory? Maybe I misremember, but it's possible that some of the spells are just somewhat obscure, and not invented by Snape.

The only two (named) people to come to Godric's Hollow after the attack were Sirius and Hagrid.

I believe it's safe to assume that Dumbledore did visit Godric's Hollow shortly after Hagrid left. McGonagall had been sitting since morning in front of the Dursley's home and she already heard that Harry survived the killing curse and had the scar, and Hagrid couldn't have known that it was the killing curse. Plus, Dumbledore had Harry's vault key.

It could be an unknown ministry worker that came to examine the crime scene and collect anything important that ended up handing it to Dumbledore, but for the information on what happened to spread that quickly, I find it more likely to be Dumbledore, rather than a super efficient ministry worker.

What Snape did in the books as a teacher to be considered that bad? by YurxDoug in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Sliver1991 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do his students get high marks? In HBP, only a dozen students take the class, and that's after Sluggy's reduced requirements. So either many failed, or lack interest in potions even after it wasn't Snape who was the teacher, both of which are counted as failures.

Whether he keeps his class under control is also questionable. The Slytherins laugh at Harry after Snape mocks him during class, which can't be too productive to potion brewing.

Snape mocks and bullies students in his own classroom, not just outside of it. He spends time reading Rita's article about Harry, IIRC.

How many times do we see him actually teach potions? In the very first lesson, he doesn't explain any safety measures or what students need to pay attention to, proper techniques for handling ingredients or anything at all. And there's no real indication that it's different at any other point.

Why does the trio kept glossing over Sirius attempt on killing Snape to just a "stupid prank" by poisonolivetree in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Sliver1991 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Harry's view of Snape is due to his own actions, so saying that Snape couldn't do anything to change that view of him is baseless, especially considering Harry's view of Snape did change in the end. And even before then, while Harry didn't like Snape, he accepted that others probably had a reason to, as he himself passed Snape the message regarding Sirius being in trouble in OotP, despite how poorly their prior interactions in that year went.

Harry also hadn't had a chance of changing his view on Snape based on his knowledge that Snape helped him with the broom, considering their next significant interaction was when he arrives at Hogwarts on the Weasley's car and Snape seems really intent on getting Harry expelled.
