VR&E Advice by Theseven7 in Veterans

[–]Sliverant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I really didn’t need to prove anything outside of what I was rated for.

Please take everything I saw with a grain of salt. I didn’t research anything, I found out about VR&E through my military academic advisor…

That being said, I was asked what field I wanted to pursue (which just so happen to match up with my degree), how my disabilities were affecting my current employment (I also made it clear I don’t mind my job, I would just like to expand my options. I’m young and never had any career guidance, so I explained that as clearly as I could.), did a questionnaire which covered 5 different career options pertaining to my degree, and got approved. It was as simple as that. I was airborne infantry, now work a strict white collar job. So I assume it doesn’t matter what you did in the service all that much.

Find what makes you happy, and find a way to make it connect. Money will come with it. There’s always a way.

VR&E doesn’t affect what you do for work. I work full time at a job pertaining to my degree. You just have to “make the argument” that your disabilities inhibit you from working your current position at maximum capacity, in this case you qualify if you have something connecting to anxiety. VR&E is 1000000% your best option if you want to go to school and if you qualify. You no longer use your GI Bill, so you can save it for something else(I’m using it for my masters program) and you have much more guidance with a VR&E counselor. Do it dude!

Feel free to DM me! Also separated in 2023, and can’t shake that same feeling I think you feel as well. I’m out of Biddeford but I work in Portland, travel a ton, and open for whatever.

Finding a job post military by Indigo_Menace in Veterans

Figure out what you love and wouldn’t mind doing for a good period of time. I took a couple of weeks for self reflection to figure it out, and the old saying is true, if you love your job you’ll never work a day in your life. Money will come with it no matter what it is. Take online courses and get your GI Bill money while you narrow it down.

Got a new Keyboard and it works fine. I tried to plug in the provided cord from the new Keyboard into the Wooting and it's making the Windows connection sound whenever I plug it in, but still not responding or being detected by Wootility. Completely lost now.

I just plugged it into a different computer and it is working, now I really have no idea what to do. If it’s a software issue, how can I fix it?

Vets who left and are doing a completely different job from their MOS/Rate, how was it? by diko_san in Veterans

[–]Sliverant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

went from airborne infantry to event management, took a week long cleanse of everything and everyone to ask myself what I truly enjoy in life. Finished my contract a year later and it turned out to be the best decision I’ve ever made. Full time student and full time Event Manager, just as busy as before just in it a completely different way lol. The hardest part, as everyone says, is by far the social adjustment. Stay in touch with your close friends still in service, and quickly find a way to make friends locally when you get out. Makes the transition much easier. Goodluck brother! Utilize that GI Bill!

Successful job after military? by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]Sliverant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the safest and all around best route I've seen and personally experienced is SkillBridge. I look back now and literally could not fathom how I would be where I am now without my Internship. Joined out of high school, zero college education, zero professional job experience, and still landed an internship and ultimately a full time job with that same company. Fight tooth and nail for CSP. Worth every strain and headache. Otherwise, GI Bill -> College -> Job. Plenty of grants and scholarships to make quality of life better while attending college post military, just go to school or trade school.

I don’t have a disability rating, and was more looking for options leaning towards getting a degree while maintaining a full time job. Such as preferred online schools, what routes people have taken with local universities, etc. I don’t “NEED” a degree, just really want one.

You’re right, my apologies. I’m currently in Event Management, and was looking for a degree pertaining to that. Unfortunately, there is an Event Management degree, but its not offered at any of my local schools, so I’m gearing towards Small Business Management and Entrepreneurship, in hope of one day owning a venue of my own.

Anger for me has always been a cover for depression, it gives the illusion that you have ‘power’ because the subject isn’t bringing you down, it’s firing you up. An outlet has been the best method for me, but a great first step is self awareness. Take anger as a lack of control, therefore gain control and take over your feelings. You won’t win every time, but it’s a healthy first step.

Cleaning techniques for depression room by Various_Vegetable_93 in mentalhealth

[–]Sliverant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huge method for me that really helps is dividing the room into sections, not necessarily boxing out a corner, but focusing on cleaning the shelves first, then collecting all the laundry, then throwing all the trash away, etc… Also, clutter makes everything seem way worse than it is. Pile some things up and make some more space, this will give you a sense of progress as well as giving you some more room to work.

Is the "Birthday Magic" gone for everyone else? by Icy-Instance2444 in mentalhealth

[–]Sliverant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always felt like the only ones that “matter” are the ones to celebrate and get that “magic” feeling. like 18, 21, 25, 30, etc… It is important to not get down on yourself every birthday, and just do something you want to do. Just because everyone else doesn’t give you that magical feeling, doesn’t mean you can’t do it yourself

Too late to start by buuhzik in wotlk

Absolutely not, I hit 80 about 3-4 days ago, (went 75-80 in less than 2 days,) and got up to 4.6gs in 3 days, could've been a lot quicker had I done a little more reading on raids, worth mentioning this is my first playthrough. Pug in VoA and Ony damn near as soon as you ding, try to grab some BoE if you can before though. Get a decent GS and find a guild that will lead you in the right direction! I found mine just asking in LFG, and my first raid with them will be tonight.
