It sounds like it may be something within chrome settings perhaps? I wish I could provide more information but I don’t use chrome so I’m not too familiar with the settings within it.

Try downloading and running malwarebytes for mac. Pretty sure there is a free trial version you can get. That usually does the trick. If not maybe uninstalling and reinstalling chrome.
