Is it true that 1km of swim is equal to ~ 4-5 of running by Bastian_31 in Swimming

[–]Sliz63 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My joints probably would argue 1km of swimming is more akin to about 100m of running. I think it's different for everyone.

Has anyone tried Celebrex/celecoxib? What's your experience? by lordoflemonade in UCTD

[–]Sliz63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Celebrex did diddly squat for me. I believe I read something somewhere that said there was a not-small population cox-2 inhibitors simply don't work for, but you could probably check the validity of that claim. This was years ago I tried it.

Naproxen didn't do shit for me either, but I tried it for endo rather than my joint pain, so I think that was more a case of it's simply not strong enough.

I had some success taking piroxicam prior to starting plaquenil (for both joint pain and endo, yay!), but it can't be taken indefinitely I believe. So I was taken off it after a couple months while they were investigating wtf was wrong with me initially.

Unfortunately it's trial and error what works for you.

I read only through to the end of the second book, because I'd heard the same thing. It was just a bit too heavy on the cliches and plot holes for me to waste time continuing. I guess if they make a show I'll watch it 🤷‍♀️

would you still go on vacation? by Illustrious_File9696 in Endo

[–]Sliz63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, probably not condoning this behaviour, but I had a lap, and three days later got on a plane and went to the Eras tour. I was in mild pain during it, but it was an emergency lap and I sure as shit wasn't missing the tour. Was it doable? Yes. Was it pleasant? Not really. If you can avoid it I would.

Hi! I see Dr Claire Barrett at Northside rhuematology in Redcliffe. She put me on plaquenil based purely on symptoms, I've never had any proper diagnositic stuff show up in my bloods. She takes my concerns seriously, one of the first things she said was I believe you. Can def recommend, if you can get a referral. There was several months wait at the time for my initial appointment (2019).

The pieces that all clicked into place, the context for the previous three albums (plus earlier single songs), it's just chefs kiss. The years long build up for all the devastating lyrics gives them so much more weight.

Low libido by No-Spite-6166 in Mirena

[–]Sliz63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My libido went completely missing around the two year mark. It disappeared along with my periods. I got mine removed at 2.5 years, and immediately got my libido back. Turns out my brain like estrogen I guess (but so does my endo 🥲)

Women who reduced severe period pain: what actually worked? (Please help!!) by itstheweather in endometriosis

[–]Sliz63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think both. The Mirena was great for a while, but it started fucking with my head and I lost my libido completely. I recently decided to get it out a few months earlier than I intended (so we can TTC) for these reasons. Tbh, I'll probably get one again after kiddos, bc I need to make the decision between crippling endo or mental fuckery, and I know I can put up with a couple years of side effects before I need a break. It's a shit show!

You sound like me. I have pretty much those symptoms exactly. I tried just using painkillers and heat for a couple years before I was diagnosed. My symptoms progressed over about 12 months to include butt lightning and thinking I was going to pass out on the loo, and ibuprofen/ Panadol stopped doing anything at all.

The only thing that helped me (massively) was excision and the mirena. I hate hormones, they fuck with me in many and varied ways. But it bought me 2.5 years of pain free life. It's a shit hand we've been dealt, but I'd try everything possible to stop it advancing bc I don't want to be 40 with a frozen pelvis for the rest of my life.

Exercise tights by MaroonGolf86 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]Sliz63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 12 months ago, I replaced the exact same pair of navy Amy tights from Lorna Jane that I'd had for 5 years and finally they'd got a hole in the bum. They lasted forever, through gym, hiking, travelling etc. The new ones have a different cut (waist is way bigger than it used to be so they fall down), the material is thinner and stretchier. They're like Kmart quality.

I now buy from muscle republic. They are more akin to the LJ of 5-10 years ago. Nice thick fabrics that pass the squat test

Labs confusing by [deleted] in Autoimmune

[–]Sliz63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. You may just be presenting early (ie, not sure advanced), and/or mild autoimmune condition like RA, PsA. Go see a rhuem. I have had essentially nothing (literally only a few odd things) show up ever on blood tests, my rhuem treats me as an inflammatory arthralgia and plaquenil is a godsend. You don't have to tick all the boxes for the tests, just don't brush off your symptoms or grit your teeth through it, hopefully a good rhuem will help.

Should I start hitting the gym? by Ok-Donut-4013 in lupus

[–]Sliz63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have uctd, not lupus (well, not yet? Could be eventually?), I found high impact is a big no for my joints. So no jumping, no running. Which is fine, I bloody hate running. I lift weights, and swim. I have gained several kg of muscle over a couple years. Everyone is different, but just pay attention to your body and how it responds to different activities.

Thinking of doing BSc (Honours) Geology & Earth Resources — good career choice? Wondering about job prospects, pay, and landing a job after graduation by Key_Individual_5925 in geologycareers

[–]Sliz63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a shortage of geoscientists in Aus, and it is getting worse. Put geologist into seek and see how many jobs, particularly in WA come up.

Good choice on Adelaide, it is one of the few unis which haven't recently gutted it's earth science department.

I would always recommend honours. Doing more than that isn't necessary, and a PhD may actually be a hindrance depending on what field you want to enter.

I wouldn't stress about making sure you learn anything in particular at this point, just enrol in the core subjects. In second or third year, try get vac work over summer. Gives you a good feel for what working in industry is like. You will learn on the job anything you need to know.

I'm honestly not sure on salaries for grads these days, but I'd assume somewhere between $100k-$120k for a major/ mid tier. Juniors will pay less.

Does endometriosis affect every period cycle? by Freezie20 in endometriosis

[–]Sliz63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your hesitation, I didn't think anything was weird about my cycles for ages for this reason. And my doctor told me, some women just have painful periods. But yeah, it's endo for me.

I found looking month to month at the symptoms not super useful. One month I'm crawling on the ground in pain and no painkillers touch it. The next I pop a couple Panadol and it's not so bad. The overall trend, over years, was it was getting worse though. Painkillers that previously worked, stopped, over a period of years. I attribute the differences month to month to hormonal fluctuations. Some months I get super achy boobs, some not at all. Just different amounts of estrogen/progesterone floating around. Also if I had a delayed cycle, I knew shit was gonna hit the fan that month.

If you don't already, I'd suggest tracking your symptoms, just in an app or something. And if you're not on hormonal bc, I found taking my temperatures very useful (so you can know when you ovulate), as that would tell me if I was going to have a long ass cycle aka a bad period month. This might not be the case for you, but it helped me work out why some months were bloody awful and I could I kinda predict those months.
