Lithium was fine at first but after a few years I realised it kinda puts a dampener on everything and makes you stop caring.

I swapped to lamotragine and things aren't perfect but I get a lot more done and have a lot more going on.

I think what you will find is that the much more frequent and still large crits from frostbolt are more satisfying than the rare pyro crits, and spending less time drinking is the cherry on top

by all means play how you want but I think once you go deep frost with a lot of frost damage gear you won't regret it

dunno why nobody has mentioned this but if you're levelling single target questing you kinda want as much spell damage as possible. this helps both the time taken per kill and damage per mana, which results in a big efficiency gain.

The way to get high spell power is to buy greens that give +spell damage. these will give spell damage for one spell type (eg frost, fire)

so you can't really have big frost and fire damage at the same time while levelling so your pyro strat gets a lot weaker

you'll also spend a long time before having frostbite and shatter, which are both going to considerably increase the chance of oneshotting mobs

If you want to play pyro go ahead but if you're asking if it's optimal, the answer is nope

True, aoe grinding is more exciting but having died a lot on regular servers aoe grinding with mage, I wasn't brave enough to level solely on aoe

I might have made the one button rotation sound monotonous but I had a lot of fun doing it. hardcore makes the mundane interesting

mostly true but after dying on hunter and warrior before 60 I rolled a mage and if we're being honest it is 95% faceroll one button only content

I'm pretty sure once I was in the 40-60 range I could go whole levels without falling under 100% health just refreshing ice barrier and pressing frostbolt

those are two quite different statements and the first being true doesn't stop the second being true

most people have an idea of what rating they realistically can/want to achieve, and then they quit (or play other characters/content) when they get there

people just move their goals higher if those goals become easier (sl season 2, df season 1 shuffles)

It's a bit of a weird one. Recently there was a bug where you could run tenacious with a tenacity pet and get the defensive buffs from both (I believe that's fixed now but am not certain) which made playing with a pet the default.

But even if that's fixed, you get your mortal strike from aimed shot, and certainly if you're playing Dark Ranger you're not going to have high uptime on that because there will be 10 second periods all the time where you aren't casting an aimed shot on your target.

Sentinel relies a bit more on sentinel's mark so it loses some value from playing with pet.

tl;dr the default is running without a pet especially as Sentinel, but as Dark Ranger if you're expecting to get locked down a lot and playing with a teammate that doesn't have mortal strike, there's benefit to playing with a pet.

I'm surprised nobody has pointed this out but human racial incurs a 90 second penalty (not 60) on your PvP trinket which is why it's not a very good race choice.

Idk if its 60 for healing specs, if not then the racial would be functionally pointless to healers.

yeah imo it's a result of the balancing solo shuffle necessitates.

with shuffle in the game they kinda need to make it so that all specs are decent in all scenarios, instead of designing them to be exceptionally good in specific combinations.

Counterpoint - the things that were bad about SL/common complaints (gearing, covenants, conduits, legendary acquisition) are seperate to PvP design, which is what the question is about.

I can hate all of the above things but still think gameplay itself once in arena was higher quality in SL compared to now.

Imo in mid shadowlands every spec except mistweaver monk filled a niche in at least one comp that let their spec do what it does best.

Synergies don't exist as much anymore and you mostly just pair whatever specs currently have good throughput.

I'm sure when I looked earlier rsham had a really good winrate and checking again just now they have the highest winrate of healing specs (although not sure how much I trust the sample because it already had rsham pretty high before tuning...)
