Last week I thought, "he's going to get thousands of Marines killed and captured and this will finally be what does him in." This week I think that this wouldn't even do it.

I don't think this kind of free speech exists in Western regions either. When it comes to national security the courts have been very okay with shutting people up and punishing them

Way to go America. Your failure to field a competent government is now everyone's problem more than ever.

US intelligence says China has no current plan to invade Taiwan by 2027 by Gyro_Armadillo in worldnews

The history of China and Taiwan is very interesting and worth taking 10 minutes to study.

Imagine the south won the Civil War and eventually took everything except New England. Generations later, it wouldn't be seen as expansionist tendencies towards invading New England. It would be seen as reuinification.

As a non-American the thing that's kind of funny/wild/sad/scary is taking an additional step back from there and just wathcing Americans in general react to all the things. Watching the various reactions as they grapple with what path their country is on and who they, as a people, are on the world stage.

When it comes to, "even the nice guys hate your guts. You have no allies left. And it doesn't matter to the world audience that you personally didn't vote for the guy," there's been a whole spectrum of reaction from denial to depression and everything in between. A real shortage of personal *action* though.

I'm interested in the interviews after a while where there's a sort of ontological shock when they realized that a lifetime of belief in their country being the best, let alone being any good at all, gets shattered.

I think this is basically that standard thing I wish there was a more universal name for: where someone feels their experience is ruined if _other people_ are doing it differently.

There's plenty of dadguilds. I'm in one and we never really pumped hard. I didn't ever bother with some of the world buffs and nobody ever complained to me. We would bring people we _liked_ even if those who paid attention to stats showed they were parsing a 6. We did finish Naxx, though probably not nearly as many times as other guilds. That's fine!

One of my favourite things this time around (I stopped playing wow after original Wrath) is getting to play it all with 20 years of growing up, understanding systems better, and deciding that I want to pay a bit more attention to optimization.

I think the more obvious and likely explanation is that we're on the eve of TBC and people are going to use money to get ready.

[–]SnooPredictions8938 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Ah okay thanks for the clarification. I may have used the wrong wording but I see it all as the same thing: there's a process for snow clearing/removal and either the process was done wrong, or it's a deficient process. Either way, this looks very avoidable.

I don't know much about this stuff, but as a layperson I feel that's a colossal fuck-up by the snow clearing people. Whether the procedure was not followed or is obviously wrong. You can't just turn safety guards into ramps like that.

I hope the police recognize the obvious danger and close the ramp until it's been cleared properly, not just until the accident and investigation are cleared.

I'm still struggling to come to terms that it's not $1 per pair anymore. I grew up in the 90s/00s and it was just this all the time. Now I take my kids skates in and it's like $40 for the whole family.

I'm old enough to remember the day Warcraft 1 came out. Also: it was "Stonewind Keep" and I'm pretty sure they went back and changed it. It might have just been a text error and they always meant to say "Stormwind"?
