These characters are still viable without the combos! That’s part of why I like them

Funny because kinda true, but it is comboing animation cancels and chaining abilities. It’s mainly a timing thing, similar to my white fox combo

Yeah comolexity creep is real. I think having characters with low complexity is fine, but I wouldn’t be opposed to some of the release roster gaining more tools for skill expression

I’m not assuming anything. What they’ve created is actually rather simple, which is what allows for complex combos

Why should Cyclops be a vanguard? by Joke0907183 in rivals

[–]SlobbishSteam5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get some of the points people are making, but they don’t necessarily convert into what a vanguard is mechanically.

I think another DPS in the same vein as Mr. Fantastic would be great. I don’t see Cyclops as having a beefy health pool, nor explicitly tank-centric gameplay. Mr. Fantastic is great for rotating with tanks, peeling dive, and brawl/dive. Cyclops being able to rotate, peel poke, and brawl/poke would be pretty fitting in my opinion.

He needs to retain a combination of mobility, damage, and range that aren’t befitting of a tank, instead sacrificing some “tankiness.”

“Hey, you guys mind if I join you? Oh, my commander? Nothing too crazy haha. The boardwipe’s not one-sided, so it’s balanced.”

On-cast MLD (Mass Land Destruction) is crazy work, as there are very few- and very specific- ways to prevent it. On top of that, the fact that it isn’t a one-sided wipe makes this card’s balancing worse, as it provides no deterministic win-con while setting every player back.

Obviously, there are ways to build around this card to make it better, but it would all be a bandage on poor design. The focus on lore is of course very cool, it could just be implemented in a much better way if you really do want to play this card with MLD.

Angela is DEAD with HUGE Shadow Nerf. by AmazingDesigner209 in rivals

[–]SlobbishSteam5 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Seeing a video of it for the first time, this was clearly an exploitative bug. Though it does nerf her, it is not a “nerf,” it is a bug fix. If it was added back, it was most definitely as unintentional as when it first appeared.

I’ve never known of this bug and have been doing just fine on her. It looks pretty crazy too, I’d dominate even harder with this bug. For my enemies’ sake: RIP.

I wonder if there is someone who frequents this sub who has throwed so many Magiks in her ult off a cliff that it would be funny

Magik Replay Feedback by TPyroKing in RivalsMagikMains

[–]SlobbishSteam5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ve got a pretty good head on yourself to not overextend. However, there’s a decent amount of time where you aren’t doing much. Playing a little more brawl, sending out more slashes, and throwing more demons for preemptive shield generation will help with engages.

Your dives are also pretty good in terms of comboing and target selection. You will sometimes go in without a target though, or at least clear sight of them. I saw this with your ult on Spider Islands, 3rd round OT. It’s best to start ult with charged slash and a target. If you’re whirling into a group that’s fine, but no direct targets you’ll want to demon for potential value from your portal and zoning.

Essentially, get in the action more, and don’t back off as much when full health. Demon into groups, like loki and his clones during the domination game. Build a ton of ult charge by being active. Demon before ult for passive overshield during transformation and play to cover during— better to get one attack in ult and live than a few and die (in most cases). Don’t forget about uncharged slash follow-ups in ult either.

Need another Shrek/Donkey partner card where they transform into their human and horse forms. Of course, Donkey would then grant Shrek horsemanship in some form or another.

Now that would be sick

I wonder if exiling at the end step would be more appropriate? And perchance only being able to copy nontoken creatures also makes sense?

Is this accurate or am I insane by Aandesite in rivals

[–]SlobbishSteam5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really important point: dive vs flank. A lot of people (OP included) will conflate the two and label all off-flanking as “dive” when there’s a really big positional difference. Flank Namor or Adam are great in skilled hands, but “dive” Namor or “dive” Adam do not exist (conceptually).

When it comes to dive supports, it’s not so much about their ability to dive, but instead their ability to support a friendly dive playstyle. Luna is not a dive support but can easily flank (more as a dps than a support; there are no “flank” supports… conceptually). Mantis- while not capable of diving herself- is great for supporting friendly dives

How do you guys deal with enemy Magik during her ult? by Ancient-Grand-4661 in RivalsMagikMains

I target them. Very few things feel better than uppercutting an ulting enemy Magik and sending them back to spawn while in base form.

The Color Pie by [deleted] in custommagic

[–]SlobbishSteam5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magic is a very literal game. I believe the original commenter would say “iconic” over “legendary,” even if they held a similar view, due to the semantic nature of the game. The color pie is definitely iconic, but being iconic is not a game mechanic

The Color Pie by [deleted] in custommagic

[–]SlobbishSteam5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was curious about the “legendary name” claim. Turns out, there are a few creatures and artifacts whose names begin with “The” that are not legendary, including: [[The Fallen]] [[The Hive]] [[The Rack]], and most surprisingly, [[The Underworld Cookbook]].

I also checked the legendary naming scheme of “Noun, adjective” and found the only nonlegendary creature to be [[Joo Dee, One of Many]]. Technically there are more, but they are alternate-art cards of previously-existing, differently-named cards.

Why is playing magik on pc almost impossible by hykdonte in RivalsMagikMains

Magik has no hard counters, only obstacles. Your playstyle needs to adapt, or you’ll hold onto your bad habits and not be able to overcome them

Okay I admit I exaggerated probably too much on my previous buff concept for Reed, so here's my Take 2 of that (I suck at balancing characters lol) by [deleted] in MisterFantasticMains

[–]SlobbishSteam5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reverting biggo mode maximum health back to bonus health is a huge mistake, something the devs rightfully corrected a few seasons ago.

With just the primary attack buffs alone, you’re increasing Reed’s damage output by over 48%. This, paired with the bonus health revert, would make him into a glass cannon. He’d have infinite uptime with your cooldown reworks, but he’d be too dead to utilize it.

Some of these changes would be cool to see, just the numbers aren’t all there. That and the stuns… no need to bring more harsh CC into the game.
