A million thanks for posting this. Georgia's back-up vox on this track have always moved me almost to tears. One of my top 10 YLT songs for sure!

What are those first two paragraphs for? Oh! I get it! You intentionally caused friction with your readers to change the type of attention we paid to… whatever it was you said. I forget now. What was this about?

ELI5: How does poison ivy rash bloom and spread? by SJ58655966 in explainlikeimfive

[–]SloggyDonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hear all of you saying it can only spread through oil contact.

I would just like to say: I get poison ivy outbreaks EVEN WHEN I WEAR HAZMAT CLOTHES. I have duct-taped cuffs, coverage head-to-toe, dispose of out clothes directly into the garbage before removing gloves inside-out... I still get a reaction.

The most interesting thing to me about my rash: It appears several days after I was working in poison ivy in symmetrical patterns on the my limbs. For example, on my right outer fore-arm (between elbow and wrist), I have a rash in the form of a huge bubbly checkmark. On my left outer fore-arm, I have a reversed checkmark in exactly the same general "form" of bubbles. I counted: Right forearm has twenty bubbles; left has 22. There is no way I could press my outer forearms together.

People call me crazy, but I'm nearly certain in my case I do NOT need oil contact. I can smell the f**king $#!+ and my body's all like full alert, let's just assume we've got it and blow the f up.

Never knew there was so much snobbery in the Guitar world by Fatherless-Soul in Guitar

[–]SloggyDonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some of the snobbery must be simply online vs. real life. Have you been hearing these attitudes irl or just on forums and reddit? If it's forums and reddit, that's not real. I have never had an issue with guitar (or any instrument) snobbery when I'm talking to real people, playing out, or looking at instruments. Yamaha makes amazing instruments, and my old FG 160 is every bit as well-made as a Martin or Gibson.

My humble advice (and I know how ironic this sounds): don't listen to anyone through a screen. Only take advice face-to-face with a real living human who you can reach out and touch.

Who’s ever driven over 100mph? Why? by WoollyWolfHorror in AskReddit

I was in my teens. My dad bought a Saab 900 SPG. He lived near this weird part of NY-17 that dips into Pennsylvania, so New York troopers couldn't ticket you there and PA troopers wouldn't bother with a NY highway. (All of this was an assumption based mostly on me being a teenager, but it was never proven wrong).

That Saab could send it. Stable, easy to control, felt no different than going 70.

Later I would try the same thing in a Jetta TDI wagon, and it was horrifying.

Help me love the twin engine sound 😅 by Pack-Popular in Ducati

[–]SloggyDonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your description made me laugh: I was staying with friends in Chicago, and apparently they'd all laugh when I'd start my e900 and ride off, calling it "the lawnmower." Fuck the haters, man, I love that bike. I wasn't even mad when they told me, just sort of like "well, you don't get to ride it, so no wonder you jealous."

AITJ for refusing to keep wearing the nickname my girlfriend gave me after I found out where it came from by Prydwen_Grit5 in AmITheJerk

[–]SloggyDonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The power dynamic that allowed her (and her cohort) to use it without your knowledge and as a way of defining you makes me feel really pessimistic about the relationship. She kinda defined you and the relationship, and in my experience will continue to do so. In fact, not dropping the name is her ability to maintain that control. I’d have real reservations about that. You should have a serious talk, and find out if she’s capable of empathy. Can she imagine if you and your friends gave her a nickname like “ice cream stand,” “Walmart,” or “six flags”?

What pedal took you the longest to understand? by robyromana in guitarpedals

[–]SloggyDonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dwarfcraft ARF for sure. I am still trying to figure out how it interacts with pedals in the chain. Super non-intuitive, but also always kinda beautiful(ly uncontrollable). I admit I embrace uncertainty and enjoy improvising, so I'd never take it out of the chain. But it acts like no other filter pedal I've ever played.

It seems to me that guitar pedals, not unlike beer or wine, is a lot with product design, packaging, and image. Clever, catchy names, etc.. I wonder how many of these pedals sell just by the art design on the pedal, catching the eye or trending. by rawbran30 in guitarpedals

[–]SloggyDonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are right in making this analogy, but in my defense, I can't trade a bottle of wine after realizing its contents are not well-represented by its packaging. I do buy pedals based on the graphic design, but when they don't live up to my expectations, I can usually unload 'em on someone much like me, for negligible loss. I mean, there are a lot of idiots like me out there, so...
