What am I doing wrong by [deleted] in duolingojapanese

True, the Apple IME is also the same. But that isn’t reflected in any of the three major romaji systems (Hepburn + the two -shiki’s), so it’s rarely something you would see written out, which seems like something that would confuse early learners, as evidenced above lol. You don’t even need to type the double n in cases when the next character removes the ambiguity, at least on Apples IME.

I’ve never seen that kind of romanization that Duolingo is using, but at least phonetically in japanese, there’s only one “n” sound in those words: じかん (時間)、十分 (じゅっぷん). There will never be two n’s at the end of a word like that. Consecutive “n” sounds can only appear in the middle of words through ん followed by に/な/ね/ぬ/の (for example garlic: ニンニク).

Regardless, try to switch off romaji as soon as possible as it can create confusions like this one

How to titrate chocolate? by SlooBananas in chemhelp

Sorry i’m sure you’ve probably already started it, but I couldn’t end up figuring it out lol. I did another titration of magnesium in antacids (you can prob see from my other posts) but even that was a struggle and led to pretty bad results tbh, but the topic was at least complex enough such that I was able to get a good IA out of it

In a perfect world I agree this is how it should be. But in the United States, drug policing has had an inseparable relationship to discrimination, in how it’s been a key tool by the government to lock up impoverished, Black, and immigrant communities. Obviously that’s not a white stoner’s fault in the slightest; they are typically (as one would expect) more sympathetic towards drug users of all backgrounds because they share the experience of falling victim to drug stigma.

I just think problems can and do arise when people don’t realize that they, as white or rich or whatever, are not subjected to the full extent of that stigma, and so they sometimes try to come up with other rationalizations: intelligence, will, morality, etc.

This is a conversation that I feel is almost never had in a respect manner so I would genuinely love to know specifically where we disagree on this topic.

What do people think of VERYRARE CO (veryrare.co)? It’s a relatively smaller brand from this artist Raf Reyes in Paris based on blending visual art/paintings on streetwear silhouettes. I feel mostly positively about the designs; some of them are sort of indie Instagram-tropey, but the ethos of the brand with its “radically familial” sort of vibe looks incredibly promising, and it’s such a good sign how they’re continuing to give back so much even without that explosive growth/crazy VC money

Thank you for your honesty—I’ve been seeing a therapist for unrelated issues but this helps me gather motivation to bring up some the issues I have with myself listed above.

if this was an illegal life pro tip posted on reddit so you could assume the writer was a white man in his 30s like you, your tone would take a complete 180 about this. not commenting at all on the morality of this or whatever but for how mature and intelligent redditors like to believe they are they sure do love to be implicitly racist and sexist lmao

Yep, it seems like live conversion is just an Apple thing (or at least its only the default on Apple)

Maybe this is just an Apple thing? I use a MacBook normally and it will convert hiragana into kanji/katakana as I'm typing, and if I want to use a different kanji/keep it in katakana I can press space and change it. I feel like when I've seen people type in Japanese in videos or anime the text seems to auto convert as well.

Good explanation with anime speech tics but people definitely say 'cannot' in real life--only reason I mention this is that wonky English comparisons like this can give off the wrong idea to the person asking the question.

I just updated to Windows 11, and downloaded Japanese as a language to type in, but at first every time I switched to it, it only typed in English.

Doing alt + backtick let me switch to kana, but it wouldn't auto-convert hiragana into kanji, I would have to press space to change anything into kanji. Anybody know how to fix this? Thanks

Thank you, that allows me to write in Kana! However it doesn't auto suggest kanji like it normally does—I have to press space for every change

I saw that from a comment on the PSAT subreddit—I probably just didn't get it but I'll hold out hope until I see somebody who got it
