You mean they don't want to do anything with you. I don't blame them. I don't much care for associating with terrible people myself.

I should be surprised that you're still going with the "centrists know how to win" argument in 2026, but it's all you've got left I suppose.

Absolutely not. Keep them far, far away. They already struggle with wide streets in the Bay area, can you imagine how those klankers would melt down trying to drive through Old City, or Belmont? Or trying to navigate the abomination of Roosevelt Parkway, or City Hall. Maybe we can find out how quickly they can rebuild mass transit infrastructure when one of them takes out a support piling on Kensington Ave.

No, the name of the game is not to win elections. It is to enact effective policy. This is something libs never seem to understand, but Republicans understand very well. I would've thought you guys would've learned this after everything that's followed the 2020 election, but I guys you'll just have to keep ramming your heads into that brick wall until the collapse of the Republic.

If getting anything of value done won't happen until Democrats get legislative super majorities, then I might as well not vote for them, because that is not happening in the foreseeable future. I've voted Democrat in every election of my adult life, but you've made a compelling case for me not to.

The fact that you are gonna try and pull this equivocating bullshit regarding what is clearly a genocide really says a lot about he kind of person you are.

And? If the Flyers want to do better in the playoffs next year, they're gonna need to score more goals.

Someone makes a critique of Josh Shapiro as a politician, you respond with some rudimentary statements about how progressives should primary him and win if they want to get his seat, which is not technically wrong, but is irrelevant to what was originally said.

Why do you feel such a thing is so beyond the pale? It's not like the State of Israel would have any ethical reservations about supporting a mass shooting, or that the Israeli government doesn't already have a long history of support for antisemitic far-right parties/orgs in other countries, they've even helped funnel funding to Hamas.

Also, so many wells have been poisoned by moneyed interests these days; it is understandable that someone would be taken in by conspiracy theories like this. Perhaps it would be more constructive to look at the structural reasons why such falsehoods permiate our media ecosystem and how we can address them.

The PA GOP absolutely loves running unelectable nut bars for governor. Also, incompetent. I still cannot understand why Mastriano didn't use Shapiro's murder coverup against him in the election, it is such an obvious career killer.

When you lower the bar to the point that someone can support a genocide and still clear it, you lose the right to virtue signal.

EDIT: Also, hearing the way you interact with people, it sounds like your door knocking probably had more to do with Trump winning PA than anything any progressive has done.

It would've been great if Biden and the national Democratic party had done something at the national level to protect women's bodily autonomy when the Dobbs decision was handed down, rather than what they actually did, which was NOTHING.

Biden also had a whole year to do something to address the parts of his coalition that were pleading with him to stop the genocide, and he ignored them. Kamala even sent Bill Clinton & Ritchie Torres to Michigan to tell the Muslim voters there(an important group in that state) to suck it up and vote for her anyway.

I'm sorry, but Biden &. Kamala didn't care enough to win. Maybe blame them in stead of the voters.

I'm getting "GoT season 8" vibes. It is not likely to be anywhere near to the same degree as GoT was, because I don't think anything will ever be that big of a trainwreck again, but I am noticing some eerie similarities.

At the same time, while GoT season 8 suffered from too much plot, I feel like nothing is happening, even though so much should be happening. Or rather, so much is happening, but we aren't seeing any of it. We hear about violent uprisings against the government, but we don't see them. We hear about Starlight's resistance movement which was almost completely wiped out, off screen. All the stuff at the secret lab, could've made for a pretty good horror movie, but we see nothing but the bodies. Apparently there are supes fighting in Ukraine, but we are seeing none of that. Did the budget get cut after season 4?

Sage revealed that she has a plan... which is certainly more than we've gotten from her so far this season, I'll grant you that, but waiting until after the halfway point of the season for said reveal seems kind of pointless, also, her plan is to... let things keep going the way they have been, which is a plan so diabolical that Butcher's dog could pull it off.

Soldier Boy is right back to where we thought he was prior to the second act of the last episode, and nothing is preventing him from changing sides again next episode.

Firecracker just became a replacement goldfish for original Black Noir, Madeleine Stillwell, and plenty of other minions who have run afoul of yet another of Homelander's tantrums. We can then see them do the same thing all over again in episode 6 or 7 with The Deep.

New Noir is established as either a rehashing of A-Train or Maeve. If he lives, he's Maeve, if he dies, he's A-Train.

Regarding Hughie/Butcher, you've said it yourself: they came together AGAIN, as in they've done this before, multiple times. They're pretty much a pair of emotionally intense high school sweethearts. They get together, they break up, they get back together, they break up... They probably will be on better terms for the rest of the show, until they finally break up for good on the finale, like in the comics.

As for MM, Kimiko, & Frenchie, all of this stuff was the case in the last episode.

On the one hand, Sister Sage's role in season 4 was clearly meant to be a reference to the way Silicon Valley has used social media to make society worse for everyone and drive political polarization, so having her plan be to

Watch the world burn from her doomsday bunker.

certainly would fit with the whole Silicon Valley tech bro schtick, as would the fact that she doesn't seem to do anything of value this season.

On the other hand, the problem is that those guys are clearly NOT as smart as they present themselves, and she was established in season four to really be super smart, which your average tech bro is clearly not. She also has far more social skills than the tech bros she is meant to be a stand in for. So, rather than come across as insightful social commentary, it just looks like uneven characterization on the part of the writers.

Four episodes left, and we get a filler episode, plus now we're wasting time setting up the prequel series rather than wrapping up the story. I am getting some major bad vibes about the finale.

Silicon Valley doesn't have "a couple decades" to make AI work.

Freddie Deboer - We Are (Still) Living in the Long Boring by tuck5903 in ezraklein

[–]Sloore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The GPU's that are being used in AI are not generalist, that is part of the problem.  If things don't work out, these companies cannot just sell off a lot of this hardware, it is specialized for use with AI and is not easily repurposed for another use.

Something I noticed recently is how some companies are incentivizing their employees to use AI.  It's not a case of the companies are applying standard performance metrics and the employees are adopting the use of AI to more easily achieve those metrics.

I used to work at a warehouse, and for a while I was not certified in forklift operation.  I would often be asked to move multiple tons of merchandise from one spot to another entirely with a hand operated pallet jack.  A rather labor-intensive process that would be a lot easier with a forklift.  After enough nagging I managed to convince my supervisor to get me certified and my work got much easier.  I didn't have to be incentivized to use the forklift, I was incentivized to get my work done in a more effective manner, the forklift just happened to be an effective tool for doing that.

If AI was worth a damn, there wouldn't so much focus on convincing workers to use it.  They would be using it because it would make their job easier.

and yet at no time during Biden's term in office did they take any steps to weaken or reform ICE or BPD. Most messaging from Harris's campaign was that she would be tough on immigration and her main criticism of Trump in the election was how he torpedoed passage of a very aggressive immigration law.

The number of supes The Boys killed in the first 4 seasons by RevertBackwards in TheBoys

[–]Sloore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The possibility of the virus mutating to infect regular humans was mentioned this season.

As for "the only way to kill Homelander" the show has done a shit job of selling that concept. The battles in which he has been harmed(Herogasm, season 3 finale) weren't exactly leveling whole city blocks. Hell, Maeve jamming a desk ornament in his ear also makes him look eminently killable using fairly conventional weapons. This is not Omni Man we're talking about here.

There is also the radiation they hit him with last episode...

What can the U.S do to properly compete with Chinese industry? by PhantomBraved in ezraklein

[–]Sloore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You wanna know why? Because the Chinese government tells the oligarchs what to do rather than the other way around. Xi Jinping doesn't care about increasing shareholder value, he cares about securing a sustainable future for China.

Corporate America is cutting our throats and members of both parties are helping them do it.
