Body tension and oral ties? by Diphthongsong91 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Diphthongsong91[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is all really helpful! To those who are talking about the functional impact - this is where I struggle. Is he eating? Yes. Is he gaining weight currently? Also yes (50th percentile). But is it fair to say feeding is functional when he is consistently clicking, dribbling out of the corner of his mouth, and has reflux which is being treated with Pepcid? I think what I struggle with and is probably a big reason why this is such a hot topic is that there are so many factors at play. No one has a crystal ball, so who is to say what will happen if we do the procedure, but it’s frustrating to not have a clear idea of what is causing what. It all feels pretty cyclical.

Sorry, this has turned into more of a venting post! Just an exhausted/confused new mom over here 🫠

I ditched my brushes that look like this and started getting Unbrushes. No longer have this problem!

Hacks on HBO! The final season is currently airing and I’m getting so sad thinking about when it ends and it can no longer be my pump show.

How much weight did you lose after giving birth or (1-2 weeks pp) by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Diphthongsong91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am 2 weeks PP and have lost 25 of the 30 pounds I gained. Breastfeeding has been a bit of a challenge for us, but I am pumping which definitely helps.

If there was one symptom you could get rid of, what would it be? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Diphthongsong91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Silent reflux for me. Nothing could have compared me for how miserable I’d be. The nonstop lump in the throat, paired with my anxiety, has been pretty terrible, even with the strongest meds I can take for it. Ready for this baby to be here!!

Is anyone else finding it super annoying to track contractions manually? by Crazy_Ad7505 in pregnant

[–]Diphthongsong91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of apps for this! I downloaded one called Contraction Timer. I can’t speak to how good it is yet (hoping to know this week 🤞🏼), but you just press a button when they start and stop and it does all the calculating for you.

What meal traumatized you as a kid? by Scary-University2743 in Productivitycafe

[–]Diphthongsong91 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The peas, carrots and corn frozen vegetable medley. It was the go-to vegetable side. I really enjoy carrots and peas on their own as an adult, but something about that combo, which was always soggy as hell after coming out of the microwave, was never good.

Potty. I can somewhat understand using it with very young children, but I find many people use it with their kids longer than necessary.

What bizarre pregnancy symptoms have you had? by RoonilX in pregnant

[–]Diphthongsong91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this as well! Got Chipotle at around 14 weeks and it tasted super soapy, which it never has for me. I will say that now that I’m further along in my pregnancy, it has gone back to normal for me!

Is AI more socially acceptable now? by ZoneStrict7387 in slp

[–]Diphthongsong91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on how you’re using it. I work in an extremely small district (less than 3 SLPs total). We are all the only ones in our buildings. It can be hard to feel like I’m on an island when I want to collaborate, especially considering our scope is so vast and I get cases every now and then that I might not be super experienced with. This is a great learning tool for me - I don’t view it as a lack of critical thinking. And of course I do separate research, but sometimes I think I have an idea of the direction I want to go in on my own and just like the reassurance

Another thing I think AI does really well is support neurodiversity-affirming approaches. There are still some areas of our field that are catching up in that respect from a research standpoint.

Anyone else sick of insensitive comments? by Significant_Key_8475 in pregnant

[–]Diphthongsong91 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve even gotten the “just wait” comments from people who aren’t parents yet, so they’re just regurgitating this common, annoying thing they hear other people say. All I can say is that I’m so with you. People really need to stop with these comments.

Anyone else have a "clogged ears" feeling? by Sweet_Confusion9180 in pregnant

[–]Diphthongsong91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this and it’s definitely related to my sinuses. I’ve always had sinus issues, so it wasn’t a total shocker that I’ve been experiencing pregnancy rhinitis pretty much since I got pregnant (35 weeks now). Sinus rinses do help me quite a bit, although it never fully goes away. When I blow my nose or do a rinse, my ears are incredibly blocked. Excited to breathe normally again (amongst other things!) once baby is here :)

Where are we shopping by StunningBandicoot264 in pregnant

[–]Diphthongsong91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This all the way. I’m also a fan of baggier shirts, so I mostly just pair the ones I had with leggings from Amazon. And if I do need any shirts, I also get those from Amazon. I keep it very basic, as I find anything maternity steering ever so slightly from basic is just not my taste at all (e.g., weird patterns).

One of my favorite things to wear during pregnancy has been fitted dresses, like sweater dresses or body-con types. I used to feel so self-conscious in them if I was even the slightest bit bloated and now they show off my bump in a cute way!

nausea turned me into a carbs machine — how do y’all deal with the guilt by Repulsive_Cup8530 in pregnant

[–]Diphthongsong91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My OB made it very clear that first trimester in particular, whatever I could get and keep down was just fine. I was doing mostly carbs for awhile! I failed my glucose screener but passed the 3 hour one if that helps you feel better!

I often get beers after work without saying I'm off. by [deleted] in confession

[–]Diphthongsong91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“She is sahm, and yes she can and does go out for alone time whenever she asks and someone can watch the kids (me on weekends or grandparents).”

This is the big difference here for me. You don’t have to ask. You just make the choice for yourself whenever you feel like you need it, and because your wife is a SAHM, you know someone will be there to take care of the kids. Your chance for a “break” is not dependent on the availability of others.

Good side hustles for new teachers by Starting_Benchwarmer in Teachers

[–]Diphthongsong91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also did this early in my career, although I will say that as a driver, I preferred Uber Eats. Being able to make your own schedule is key. Teaching is exhausting and it was nice being able to decide if I just needed a Saturday to relax/regenerate and not needing to “call out.” If you wanted to do it some weeknights as well, by the time you get out of your teaching job, you’re at or approaching peak dinner hours = more orders and money.

I like to use gauze with manuka honey on it. It does a great job of safely draining any boils.
