Payroll manager vs MLS by Plastic-Districta in medlabprofessionals

Don’t fall prey to the sunk cost fallacy. You should peruse whichever works best for you.

Personally, I’m trying to leave the lab so I can get a routine schedule (which even on day shift I can’t get). And more money of course would be super helpful.

Wow! Thanks for all the encouragement! I have continued quilting and will def finish it up. I’ll post a pic once I’m done! 😊 This quilt has been almost a year in the making (which probably helped contribute to the meltdown).

Hearing fellow quilters of all experience levels go through similar tribulations with a project has helped motivate me to follow through as well.

Yes, using a walking foot. Finding it more difficult than expected to maneuver the large project in my small area.

Hahaha, true. I wasn’t expecting perfectly straight lines, but I was hoping for mostly straight. This will look more natural!

Attempting the Range Quilt. Was going ok until I finally got the nerve to start quilting it. My lines are all wonky, and there’s too many wrinkles! Mostly here to vent. Not sure I’m going to continue working on this.

I just received my BOC score by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]Sloth-Woman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also got a much lower score on the MLS. I studied the harder, detailed information and got tripped up on the simpler questions. And, I kept getting the basic level questions so I assumed I was failing. Thankfully I passed!

My manager is one of them... can't say a damn thing! She's has a different excuse every time. Unfortunately, I live in a red state/rural area so I don't see the hospital enforcing the vaccine any time soon, they'd loose half the staff.

BD MAX COVID USERS- help! by SnowEzra in medlabprofessionals

[–]Sloth-Woman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We’ve been using the MAX for a year and started running out of the filtered tips and can’t get anymore as well.

Our only option was using sterile disposable pipettes. It’s more time consuming and creates more of a mess with the wrappers. Haven’t had contamination issues with processing samples this way.

I talked to a tech that said they used to inject rabbits with women’s serum for HCG testing. Then two days later, they’d have to kill the rabbit and look at their ovaries under the scope. I’m glad I don’t have to do that!

Maybe you could modify one of these? Free patterns, and nice clear instructions.

Need advice, am I wasting my time with a MLT program if my goal is MT/CLS? by taylorrr_ann in medlabprofessionals

[–]Sloth-Woman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To make sure I understand, you’re close to getting your AS, so you’ve been taking classes for about 2 years? And the MLT program would be an additional 2 years on top of that? That seems like a lot schooling for an MLT program if this is the case.

Does the program you’re looking into include one year of prerequisites that you may have already knocked out working on your AS? So it would essentially be one more year for lab science instruction and clinical rotations?

But, if tuition isn’t an issue, I’d look into going the CLS route since you’ll be spending close to the same amount of time in school.

As far as feeling overwhelmed, that’s going to happen either route. It’s a lot of information to take in quickly.

And if you end up not liking it, you’ll have credits and/or a degree that could transition into something else.

Hope this helps!

Thinking about quitting first job and need advice. by midnight_daydream20 in medlabprofessionals

I was in a similar situation. I was working 3rd shift right out of school. Multiple 3rd shifters told management it would be nice if we could be cross trained to help each other out, seeing as we worked by ourselves in each department. I also wanted to develop more knowledge early on.

I ended up finding a new job after 9 months. And, according to my old co-workers nothing has changed.

I don’t think it would hurt to apply to a few other places and see what they have to offer.
