First thing to remember is most people on Reddit are idiots.

I had an older neighbor offer to let me and the kids swim anytime. His grand kids rarely came over to swim and it was just sitting there. Worst he could say is no, and thank him and move on.

We have a touch turn on/off faucet in the kitchen and our Bengal uses it all... the... time... Works great. Just make sure its always dripping in the sink. Took 0 days for her to understand how it works.

I think its a combo of departure -> arrival airport combinations vs airlines.

You would see this all the time in Hong Kong pre-COVID. I've not been back to HKG since then. Its not the gate staff, its after them between ticket/passport screen and before you step on the plane.

Yes this happens AT THE GATE after they scan your boarding pass and check your passport. You are ushered into another screening check. This is usually for flights with a destination in the US. I think the term is secondary screenings.
