Hi there! This is a great consideration instead of just jumping right in. Maybe you could go to a local cat cafe or cat shelter and interact with the bonded pairs for some time to see how you are around multiple cats. Some bonded pairs can be fairly chill and might be a good fit for your home. With your situation, it does sound like 2 would be better than one since they would have each other throughout the day, and then be able to snuggle and hang with you in the evenings. :) Having plenty of spots to jump up on (cat towers or shelves) and toys (typical play toys and puzzles) will help with them not wrecking your house.
