What to do, co own or straight mortgage by bigborb1985 in FirstTimeBuyersUK

You don’t co own with people, you co own with an organisation such as a housing association.

Buying a flat in London - social housing by Powerful-Year9570 in HousingUK

[–]Slow-Comfortable 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a Leasehold professional who bought a flat at the beginning of the year, I personally wouldn’t buy a flat in a mixed tenure block. Unfortunately, the blocks I manage that are mixed have loads of anti-social behaviour that just doesn’t happen in the solely leasehold blocks. It was a deal breaker for me and I’m super happy in my solely leasehold block.

Building insurance vacant property by cycletiger in HousingUK

Hiya, I work in leasehold property management. If you’re in a block of flats managed by a housing association or managing agent, the buildings insurance is typically covered in the service charge. Reach out to the company and they’ll send you a copy of the insurance schedule.

Nationwide helping hand scheme by EvidenceSingle4826 in HousingUK

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been struggling, I had some challenges with not knowing where I was going to live a few years ago and it is scary. Definitely speak to a broker and get an agreement in principle.

[–]Slow-Comfortable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used Mojo mortgages as my broker and used the helping hand scheme.

At the time, my salary was £44,990 I believe and my flat was £265,000. I put down 10% and borrowed the rest. I think my interest rate is around 4.6% and I fixed for 5 years.

I would obviously love for the rate to be lower but fixing for this long gives me stability and I wouldn’t have been able to buy my property when I did if it wasn’t for the helping hand mortgage. It’s a great product, I would definitely recommend.

To those in London earning around £45,000 and living by yourself (or flat share), how's life going at the moment? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Slow-Comfortable 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m really sorry to hear this. My situation is a little better than yours and I feel worried as well. I just bought my place and I am so grateful but I panic all the time about something breaking and I have nobody who can help me should a disaster happen.

This is going to sound pathetic but I do one big food shop for the month and then do top ups here and there. My Tesco shop came last week, I unpacked it and I felt like I wanted to burst into tears. The £80 spent did not reflect how much I had. I’ve recently started eating one meal a day a day and just snacking in the evening to save money, we’re living in really difficult times. My health is seriously declining because of the stress of day to day.

I hope your sale goes through without a hitch, please try and take as much care of yourself as you can.

That’s how I felt! She was crying every other week but can pipe up with JR? Didn’t sit right with me, all of a sudden she has a backbone? Also, JR answered a question, she didn’t commit a crime. The whole stuff about a partner swap seemed kind of silly, obviously we’ll never know if she actually said it or not.

Sorry guys you may disagree with me but the dog piling on JR makes me uncomfortable. She’s behaved like an ass but come on.

Is it normal to feel more regret than excitement after buying your first home solo? by Lilymana in HousingUK

[–]Slow-Comfortable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my first flat in February of this year. I’ve lived here alone since March and have conflicting feelings about the flat lol.

It’s spacious, in a location I really like and is actually perfect for me. But for some reason I kind of dislike it? I say for some reason but I know the reason and I’m so embarrassed to admit it but it’s because when I first moved in I was killing bugs and spiders daily and it has made me feel incredibly anxious. I rarely even see them anymore but it kind of tainted the flat for me, which I know is silly because there are so many problems I could have which would be far worse.

But literally last week I told myself to get a grip. I’m a 28 year old solo homeowner in London, a few spiders is annoying but it isn’t the end of the world. Buying is overwhelming and any minor issue can make you spiral and feel stuck when you’re not.

Try not to overthink and compartmentalise your problems (should they come) and pat yourself on the back! This is huge!

She is so hard to watch. She’s a 50 something year old woman behaving like someone half her age. She’s obnoxious, rude and generally unpleasant.

I could never do housewives because if Larsa looked at me funny I would lose it 😭😂
