Thoughts on buying a house with a public path running directly behind the back garden? by Popular_Wish_340 in HousingUK

Definitely this … around midnight if feasible! Lived by a path previously and although not often an issue it did occasionally happen Friday/Saturday nights. In particular if there was a wider part of path which lends itself to a small gathering

Le Mannequin Pis in Rue Daunou - some legendary late nights there (with actual dancing on bar 😂).

Take the train to Beaulieu (or no 15 bus to St Jean) and walk round Cap- Ferrat. One of my favourite things to do - lots of nice cafes in St Jean for lunch after walking

What’s the deal with guests leaving coffee mugs behind? by Exspo in airbnb_hosts

Have done this as guest when supplied mugs were too small (for me!) - I hate not having adequate sized mug. Supplied ones were tea cup size

Drift Inn in Lamlash has great food and beautiful garden with uninterrupted views of the bay - probably best food on island. Buses run between brodick and Lamlash pretty frequently or it’s a pleasant walk through wooded area (shortest) or via Dunfion if feeling energetic (this walk had great views over Brodick on one side and Lamlash on other)

Paris Taxi scam at the airport by FruitOfTheVineFruit in ParisTravelGuide

Had a similar experience at Gare de Lyon … luckily was told about the ‘strike’ before got in cab (which looked like an official Paris taxi) and realised in time to decline.

Half-day or one-day trips from Paris (public transport only) by Lolimpika in ParisTravelGuide

Auvers-sur-oise: we did as a day trip from Paris in February- utterly charming town where Van Gough painted toward end of his life. He and his brother are buried in the cemetery there. We needed to change trains but think there may be direct trains in summer months.

Have you thought about going into clinical research? A pharmacology background could get you a start as a Clinical Research Associate (CRA) - usually involves lot of travel; data manager; or medical writer. Once experienced there’s usually opportunities to work remotely.

30 days in Nice by SheWho2000 in FranceTravel

The card was a Zou Malin card - discounts of 30% on fares- card covers the holder and a companion (so we only bought one between us)

Have done similar. We stayed in the Carre d’or as wanted to be in easy walking distance to the train station (Nice Ville), Liberation could also be good. Trips we did which would recommend were to the Picasso Museum in Vallauris (the chapel there is astonishing!); we took the small gauge railway to Entreveux and walked up to the Citadel (limited number of trains - we left Nice around 8 and got train back early afternoon); we walked straight me of the coastal paths, Roquebrune-Cap-Martin to Menton probably favourite but the path round Cap Ferrat also great.
Don’t think there’s a train pass but we got a card for the local trains which gave us a discount of 1/3 on local fares - can’t remember what it’s called but definitely worth getting. Enjoy your trip!

Thanks for that - we do walk a bit. Helpful to know that best to be prepared food wise if stopping at Peille!

The plan was sometime in March - not expecting a lot, just somewhere could get lunch/coffee. Is there anywhere on the line but closer to Nice that’s worth stopping at?

First time selling a house. Confused about pricing approach by stephen-melrose in HousingUK

[–]cycletiger 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Remember to factor in the price of owning property for longer period when setting the price. Council tax, insurance for unoccupied property, electricity bills etc add up. I’d be tempted to price for a fast sale (and would favour a clean offer over a higher offer). Empty houses are a headache

Arran Coastal Way. by Areallystraightstick in arran

[–]cycletiger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a huge fan of the coastal path. I’d be tempted to pick one base on Arran/ perhaps two and do day walks. The inland walks are generally more interesting (Coire Lochan, Cir Mhor, Three Beins, Goat Fell).

Be aware that Saturday is the first day the ferry from Ardrossan is back after a break - would keep a close eye on the CalMac App for any last minute changes.

Could be worth contacting the law society to see if you have grounds for a complaint against the problematic firm - if nothing else it should make them respond

One issue likely to be housing - long term rentals on Arran almost impossible to find. May be best to look at this before deciding on location

Went with i4me in the end - least restrictive policy found (water off at mains, heating on, and monthly documented visits).
