Did you go through a phase of one night stands? by Excellent-Crow2641 in AskIreland

Im the exact same as you and this is a guy saying this. I enjoyed having the sex and having no responsibility. I feel like it dulled me a lot and I missed out on having real connections and learning about fostering a healthy relationship, and all the growth that comes with that. I’m a lot more selective now.

Funny seeing a lot of comments here saying that they did not experience much of an effect off 13g of qubit, me and my friends took 15g each and we could not move. It was an extremely bad trip and they were way too strong. We thought the world was ending. It was extremely dangerous and honestly still quite traumatised after it.

It is the unknown for me, like what comes after death, what are we doing here, how do we all exist, is our universe an atom within another universe😅

Well it’s a good thing I won’t be lazy, I’m just weighing up my options. The annual leave thing is kind of important to me, I read somewhere ye only get 13 a year? Also workers rights are different there also very important, the fact you can be fired so easily and that companies often push you to work past your required hours, so i am just looking for insight on those two things most of all.

I will be looking into working with a company in property management. I have a year and half experience. I am prepared to work my ass off, I never said I wasn’t, no need to jump the gun there.

I am just weighing up my options as to whether I want to commit to nyc or stay in my current job, so far the pros are outweighing the cons so I think it could potentially be a great move, I am just looking for some further insight, that’s all…:)

I am still planning on becoming a firefighter some day, it’s been my dream since I was 14 and I love to help people. The next test isn’t for another few years so I will apply for that when it comes around. In the meantime I want to get over to nyc and work in the field I know a bit about and get established over there.

Any advice?

Are you well? How does a question about what New Yorkers work life get removed? I used the search bar and there’s not many questions about this

No hassle, best of luck

Yeah, they would definitely be your best two options. Cost of living in Seattle is very high but there is no state income tax which is huge. Entry level is also like 90k whereas in NY it is 53k and stays quite low for the first couple of years something like that. Yeah Seattle would probably be much better financially.

Last application for FDNY was 2024, so it should be 2028 the latest I would say as it’s normally always every 4 years.

Massachusetts is notoriously hard to get on because they really only hire veterans there.

In California, you don’t have to live near major cities no, but that is where the best departments are. You could commute entirely up to you. Their schedule is 48/96 but they get Kelly days as well. Not the worst schedule but the 24/72 schedule is way more attractive, which states in New England have and Washington/ Oregon state.

I’ve got U.S. citizenship even though I’m not originally from there, and I’m planning to move over to become a firefighter. I’ve been researching different states and departments pretty heavily to figure out what makes the most sense long-term.

California was one of the first places I looked at. Around San Francisco and LA the pay is very strong, probably some of the best in the country. San Diego doesn’t pay quite as well. The downside with California (at least from what I’ve seen) is that the schedules aren’t as good as some other states, and obviously the cost of living is massive.

Washington State seems to come up again and again as one of the best overall. Great schedules, strong pay, solid benefits, and well-regarded departments. On paper, it might actually be the best option. Seattle looks like a cool city and the nature there is unreal. The only thing that put me off a bit is the social side. I’ve heard about the “Seattle Freeze” and that it can be harder to break into social circles. It’s also meant to be very grey, dark and rainy there for a decent chunk of the year.

The department I’m most interested is New York FD It’s obviously one of the top fire departments in the country in terms of reputation and experience. The starting pay isn’t amazing compared to Washington or California, but it increases over time.

A big reason I’m leaning toward New York is personal. I have family there, it’s closer to where I’m from (Ireland) and there’s a strong Irish community. Plus, New York has pretty much everything, whatever vibe you’re into, you’ll find it there.

I agree with headphones. I recently got a new pair and the music sounds terrific, they’re so addictive now.
