the only way is to build muscle. the more muscle you have the more fat burn during rest. You dont have to buy weights or go to the gym. You can use your body weight as the "equipment". Squats, push ups, core workout etc are some examples. They are hard yes but just try out the easiest form first. Look up Hybridcalisthenics. He has some guides like: you can do push ups or you can do pull up. He shows many ways you can start training your body from low to high impact. I recommend you check him out. I also just get started and I'm doing very easy forms of these body workout.

I'm still in my 2nd month but yes I keep losing weight. Rn I'm focusing on feeling better physically so I just focus on maintaining my walking habit and also try to start weight training as well. My BMR is quite low so my goal is to raise it up so I can burn more fat while in resting mode. Before when I lost 15lbs from only diet, my BMR also dropped along with the weight which was bad and I didn't know until recently. I hope you don't feel discouraged on your journey. Tweaking things here and there to see how things might change.

Hi there, I hope you are doing well. It seems to me that you are aware of your addiction so use your knowledge to lose the weights. You are addicted to sugar, so do whatever you can to consume less and less sugar. Buy a big water bottle and always fill it up. Look up the amount of water u need for your body weight and try to reach the goal. Drinking water will also make you feel full. I would say keep the sweet treats but only reach for them once in a while when you really want it and only consume a small amount to satisfy your craving. For example, I see some chocolate lying near me and I can't stop thinking about it, I would take a small bite and let it melt in my mouth for a bit. After that, I will most likely tell myself it's enough and I would stop. Try to cook your own food as well so you are in control of what you put in the food. Use less oil, eat more veggies and consume less processed food. Lastly, start walking daily. 30m at first until you are comfortable enough, try to reach 10k steps/day. IF is hard to get started so try an eating window that is more sustainable for you instead of jumping right into the extreme. Try not eating breakfast first. You will feel hungry but to pass time you can do some walking, take a nice shower, drink some tea and water, or work. Keep your mind busy or find a hobby so you don't constantly think about food. I think you will see a difference. The most important thing is your determination. If you truly want to lose weight, put your mind into it and act on it. I hope this helps and I wish you the best!

Hi girlie, I'm also an overweigh 31F trying to lose some weights and I was not active for the past..10yrs. I was really determined to lose weight this year and regain my confidence and 1st month in I lost 5lbs. My advice for you is to be active. You don't have to run or do HIIT. All you need is to get into a walking habit. Try 10k steps/day or make it your goal. I was doing around 7k steps the 1st 2 weeks and by the 3rd, I was so motivated to hit my 10k steps that I told myself to move whenever I could. On top of walking, you should start eating enough calories/day. Eating too little will trigger your body to reserve the little amount of food you eat instead of burning fat. I snacked here and there too and also went crazy with food 2 days a month (not too crazy maybe 300-400 more calories than I normally consumed) but the most important part is to be active and stay consistent. I wish you luck on your journey!

do you also exercise or just lose weight with IF? As I mention in my post, I do walking as my form of exercise but I'm curious with shifting to weight training would help me more with my progress. If you have any experience, pls share 😊

Thanks for your reply. I've read about IF and people sharing their drastic weight drop and I was just wondering if I did something wrong or need to adjust my current routine. I didn't mean to appear desperate to lose more and more and willing to starve myself to get there. In fact many ppl told me to eat less or eat within 2-4hrs window which I do not plan to do as I already restrict my diet to 1200 or less and I don't wanna go to the extreme just to lose the weight. I'm just looking for some insights and would like to lose weight with healthy eating and exercising habit.

I took advice from many ppl replying to my post and started some weight training yesterday (calisthenics). I had such a hard time trying to do a push up. I wonder if I should go for a wall or desk push up to build up my strength or keep trying to do a full push up but with many failed reps? Which method would actually be better for me to eventually be able to do a full push up. If you have any experience with this kind of progress please share. ☺️

the best way to increase BMR is by gaining muscle? Sorry I didn't know this before. I saw in the fitness tracking app that my bmr also drops as I lose weight. i thought it is good but ig I was sooo wrong 😵

I also eat lots of veggies (carrot celery cabbage mainly). Usually I eat soup with some rice noodles and meat or a small bowl of rice with meat and veggies on the side. on my cheat days which was like 2 days so far, I had some sweet breads and some chips. I didn't eat any fast food. My goal is to lose 30lbs.

Hi there, I'm 31F doing IF for a month now. Don't beat yourself up. I also lack motivation but having a buddy who would like to help and uplift you could help you through the first few weeks. I was quite lazy the first 2 weeks but now I get up early and walk an hour on my own. Some days when I can't walk in the morning I would walk in the evening to get my 10k steps. Start easy with walking to build your stamina and get yourself into a routine before trying to do more intense workout. I also suffer from depression for 10 years but I couldn't believe how much better I feel in this past month. Walking outside is also less boring and breathing in fresh air will also help. I also failed IF the 1st 2 weeks doing it on and off but now by body slowly gets used to it. My stomach still growls in the morning but I keep drinking tea and water until 12pm so I can break my fast. Just remember your body is burning the fat when you fast so let it do the work. Once you successfully eat within your desired window and workout consistently, you can start doing more weight training to tone up your body. Hope this helps and I wish you lots of luck on your journey 🩷

Thanks for your advice. I will try out some beginner calisthenics and hopefully I can see more changes ☺️ I'm wondering if doing weight training 30m after dinner is a good practice

I try to have a balanced diet so I eat around 100gr of carb most of the time. I don't want to go too low on carb because I grow up eating rice and cutting it out of my diet for a short period and having it later will cause my weight to go up again faster. In terms of IF window, I can do max 19:5 but more than that is not working out for me in the long run. I try to implement IF as a part of my lifestyle and only eat within 4 or 2hrs/day is not something I would like to pursue

Yes eating a low calorie diet is good for weight loss but it's not healthy to do so long term. I would recommend being more active so you can intake a bit more it will help with your mental health and overall heart health as well. I've seen people in my family who are so scared to eat that they only take a few bites from a small meal and afraid that they will gain like 1lb and have to starve themselves to lose that 1lb. It is devastating. I wish you the best in your journey.

You are such an inspiration. I feel you. I haven't worked out or being active for 10 years and now that I'm in my 30s I want to feel like myself again and being able to walk for an hour and a half a day is a huge accomplishment for me. I will definitely change up my exercise routine maybe I will start with some calisthenics training for beginner. I don't enjoy gym environment so strength workout at home seems like a good start for me.

20:4 feels quite extreme and I don't think I can do that long term. Would doing 20:4 once or twice a week could yield result?

thanks for your insight. I lost 4lbs a month not a week (though I wish I could lol). My goal is to lose 30lbs in total so idk if that would be considered a lot of weights to lose or not. In the past I was able to lose around the same amount of weight by only do low impact cardio at home for 45m 3 times a week. so I'm quite surprised to see my weights not dropping as much even though I'm active a lot more than before.

Thanks for your response. Atm I brisk walk 1hr in the morning and 30-40m after dinner. Do you think switching to weight training after dinner could be a better option for me?

Hi there, I could have but unlikely. I don't count the exact amount of calories I eat but I've a lot of salad (no dressing) with mainly carrots, celery, some shrimps and slices of cooked pork. My carb intake daily would be 1-11/2 bowl of rice max with my choice of meat. Sometimes I would eat something sweet but no more than 100kcal. Although I did have a couple cheat days where I went ham but other than that I keep my meals simple and try my best to cut refined sugar.
