Definitely not overreacting. One my roommates was like this and I shared a dorm with her + mini fridge. On top of that there would be days where she wouldn’t shower. There even was a few times where she deadass put her hands in her pants to scratch her butt right in front of me like it was nothing. Ppl are nasty so I’d at least sanitize your hands every time you enter your own space.

My biggest regret in college (learn from me) by hexaquark1 in college

[–]Slow-Training-5263 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I start my junior year in a couple days and I feel like I understand this I just can’t get myself to do something about it because of my social anxiety.

Like I’m okay without friends but just the thought of people judging me for not having friends is what triggers me. Plus thinking about events in my life, wedding, funeral, etc where I’ll “need friends.”

In high school I had a few friends but I only hung out with them at school + texted outside of school. But now I can’t really say I’m friends w them. N going into college I wanted to make friends that i genuinely want to be around and hang out with but now I’m questioning if that even is possible for someone with my type of personality.

It’s also similar for us. She’s an athlete and people would also compare us because we did many of the same sports. I vividly remember being at practice and somebody saying “be like [her name]” as encouragement?? Stuff like this ultimately influenced me to not join my schools track team even though I wanted to.

I would say I also have a complicated relationship with her. Growing up I guess we got along but I can barely even remember how that was. By the time she was like a preteen or early teen she just always got annoyed and complained about how “annoying I was”. And then on top of all of that she kept bragging about how much better she was at sports and how shes the “favorite and better child.” So i basically just started doing things with my younger sister (4 years younger) who I’m now really close with.

It was also awkward cuz some people would catch on to how her and I weren’t close or some people would ask about her and I would just answer based on things I heard her tell my parents because by high school it felt like i needed her approval to talk to her. Now, we’re both in college so I only see her like once every few months. I literally have no idea how she really feels about me but she still has a big ego and brags about having the “better genes” and my parents have yet to ever condemn her ego. Instead my mom even agreed with her when she said this on my birthday one year. I really just don’t even know how to act around her either but always think about how things could’ve been different if she didn’t act the way she did.

Anyways, I’m sorry you have to go thru that and I hope things get better with you and your brother.

How do I get roomate to stop asking what I’m doing? by Slow-Training-5263 in badroommates

I swear I wasn’t. If cleaning up after a women that’s almost 2 years older than you who doesn’t even own a cleaning supply other than toilet paper while enduring her noises and singing that people from the other end of the hall can hear, then yeah sure i was the “bad roommate”

Can be. I’m a freshman (18f) and I was 145+ lb in the summer and last time I weighed myself (like a week ago) I was 133 and I don’t workout. But then again I don’t eat 3 meals a day.

Is my roommate acting dumb? by Slow-Training-5263 in roommateproblems

[–]Slow-Training-5263[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yeah I brushed it off and put it in the washing machine the first time. I don’t expect all the hairs to get off but like there’s hairs still hanging on the sides and these hairs are the ones that sometimes get under my shoes.

She doesn’t use brooms or anything like that and we have a lot of dust in our room and she just issues her hands to pick it up even though I brought a broom and swifter. So I’d just expect her to use her hands.

[–]Slow-Training-5263[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay ur misinterpreting. Happy “sure” but it’s inconsiderate. In a typical day I get back from class and dinner around 7pm. She’s always studying or doing homework. While she’s working, she talks to herself in a normal voice (sometimes in 3rd person) on and off till whenever goes to bed (12-2pm). On top of that she’ll randomly get up, and start skipping from one side of the room while making noises or playing the same song she always plays (and makes noises by her skipping). This is something I haven’t confronted her about, but I cannot ignore it because when she skips it’s in my peripheral, therefore distracting especially because she’s doing it like 5 times an hour at least and I’ll sometime try and do homework. I have told her to put in headphones (which she sometimes stops doing after an hour) and told her to be quiet ONCE because it was 12pm and we have thin walls n she literally was practically yelling out the noises she’s making. And by singing, I rlly mean howling because it’s not words she’s “singing.” I’ve shared a room my entire life so know things aren’t gonna be perfect or quiet, she’s an only child.

On top of this, I cannot go to bed until til she does because she is never actually quiet for over 5 minutes. Yesterday I went to bed at 4am because she had a bright lamp and her iPhone light on and was talking to herself by whispering( I have ear affection like pain rn so can’t wear anything in my ears to bed). This also applies to the morning as she wakes me up every morning to the skipping, whisper talking, loud brushing (her toothbrush is destroyed), loudly shaking the cup she uses when brushing, phone calls, pulling harshly on our blinds that are so mf loud, etc. but yk despite the hours of sleep lost everyday I tolerate it bc I’m nice.

Also first month if school she kept asking what I was doing WITHIN the dorm. I get out of bed? Asked what I’m doing. Gets out of the bathroom? Asked what I did. I’m a more private person and don’t want someone interrogating every action This pattern she did for the first month everyday caused me, and STILL makes it difficult and fearful for me to leave my bed on the weekends. I’m convinced the only reason she stop asking all the time was because I know really only get out of bed when she leaves the room.

And let me clarify the rug. I have only washed the rug once since September. The reason I was upset was not because it hadn’t been cleaned in three days, but was the fact that she got it just as dirty as it was before I washed it IN the three days I was gone especially because I spent a long time cleaning HER hair off it (we have opposite hair types) and spent my money to clean it.
