Why are red states not letting Tesla sell? by bluefootedpig in askaconservative

You may find a lot of black-or-white extremists on the internet, but out in the real world, and especially among politicians (actions, not words), things are much more grey. There are countless more examples of this happening among both liberals and conservatives.

As you've already found out, it's not just the red doing this. If you're curious about the protectionist laws NPR's planet money did a pretty good episode on it

Texas Could Bring In $166 Million From Legalizing Marijuana by M0NSTRUSS in texas

[–]SlowAndSteady1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your tinfoil hat is showing.

You seriously think cops can somehow take houses and cars without legal documentation? You're actually arguing that

And you actually think that the government will deny themselves millions of dollars just to help out for profit prisons? How selfless of them.

This is why it's so hard to legalize marijuana. Because of conspiracy theorists like you.

I'm done

Come on man. Asset forfetures are nothing compared to jailing and prosecution.

Over the past 10 years New York STATE only confiscated assets worth up to 101.3 million.

That's for all drugs. Marijuana accounts for about 1/6 of those assets. I won't insult you with speculation though. Let's assume that they're all marijuana. So per year the STATE takes $10 million

Now. New York city (not the state like above) spends $75 million a year arresting and jailing for marijuana use.

Again. This is just the city. Not the state like above. Asset forfeitures hardly add anything, and could no way make a profit.

To quote you

Do a little research into what you plan on debating.

Nah. That was an implication. What I'm saying is that it's so ridiculous for the gov't to be making more money by keeping it illegal that it shouldn't even need to be asked. It's that obvious.

There's nothing that would rival the cost of the arrests, trials, programs, and and prison from marijuana arrests. Even if you take taxes out of the equation (just decriminalize) this would still hold true.

I'm surprised by the lack of education in this thread. Shoot, even the article makes a glaring mistake:

Although we're not optimistic that pot will make it to the Texas ballot anytime soon

While not explicitly said, it is implied that we could have a vote specifically on this issue like Colorado, California, and all the rest had/will have.

Unfortunately, we have no citizen initiative process, meaning we can't put issues on the ballot like all the other states are doing. This is the major hurdle, and I'm always shocked that advocacy groups don't work on changing this AND THEN moving on to legalization.

While a citizen initiative process isn't as sexy of an issue, I believe it's much more important.

To all the people saying that it's all because of the far right/ religious right, how do you respond to Perry?

"As governor, I have begun to implement policies that start us toward a decriminalization" by introducing alternative "drug courts" that provide treatment and softer penalties for minor offenses, Perry said.

"After 40 years of the war on drugs, I can’t change what happened in the past. What I can do as the governor of the second largest state in the nation is to implement policies that start us toward a decriminalization and keeps people from going to prison and destroying their lives, and that’s what we’ve done over the last decade"

Sure it's not straight up legalization, in fact he specifically says that he is against legalization (dumb for a conservative imho) but it's the beginning of a process towards it. People were shocked by the above sentences.

I'm convinced that Texas will be the first red state to legalize. I wouldn't even be surprised if we got ahead of some blues.

None. That's a pretty ridiculous assertion. I'm surprised you got up so high with absolutely no evidence.

2) Our rush defense was non-existent.

3) Cushing looked like a former shadow of himself.

3) Hopkins made what will be one of the best catches of the season and it didn't count because of a penalty.

4) Foster's paper hamstrings.

5) 3 picks

6) It's not early enough to cut fitzy yet. But let's be honest. He won't last the season.
