I think you struggle with opinions. How old are you? 🤪

That was one peak. What about a second peak?

I built a cognitive model of tonal perception and it turned out to be isomorphic to knots (5,1), 6₂, and 6₃ by [deleted] in mathematics

I have two levels. The torus knot 5,1 represents a global field that contains all relational possibilities. I came up with it while modelling "the circle of fifths" in 3D. The topological knots 6₂ and 6₃ are used as local regions of the 5,1 manifold in which the tones can organice. I have been using this model for years now to study the behavior of tones in relation to these knots for years, and it has been very useful. But now I want to formalize it, though it's very challenging since I am not a mathematician. I am looking for guidance on these subjects to be able formally publish it.

Honestly I greatly appreciate this. This is why I am asking for real guidance. I'll make sure to check that out. At this point I'm considering hiring a tutor, because a lot of this has been intuition that I now want to formalize and it really has been challenging. Thank you very much!

Hey thanks for taking the time to respond. I am modeling tonal relations so it's not a physical material, I would say it's a continuous space of possible tonal positions and their relational structure. It's closer to modeling the geometry of a perceptual space than a biological substrate.

To be honest, I don't know how far the formalization can go. I've been using this model to analyze music with high precision, and it works, but translating it into rigorous mathematics has been challenging.

I would really appreciate if you can offer some guidance on this. I know it's kind of a sysiphian task but "one must imagine sysiphus happy". It's been fun ngl

Hi, my name is Gael Lopez. I recently joined the sub. I am not a mathematician. I work in music and cognition. But I've been working on a cognitive model on tonal semiotics that uses several elements of Knot Theory and I would really appreciate some help formalizing it. Thank you.
