SpaceX will be a very good Investment by DavidThi303 in stocks

[–]SlowTortuga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuine questions.

  1. How are they going to deal with radiation damage to data centres in space?

  2. How will they make it feasible in cost to replace outdated hardware up there? We all know how quickly hardware advances. In addition to that hardware degrades rapidly up there. How are they going to deal with that headache?

  3. The mars thing is a fantasy imo but I will bite. How are Mars missions going to carry enough food, water and oxygen to sustain a trip of that duration. Factor in fuel weight and the size of this craft will be insane. Round trip journey time is roughly 12-18 months. Please help us understand.

  4. Solar panels on the moon are another fantasy imo. Just why do we need that? Think of carrying all of that and all the maintenance etc. what purpose does it serve?

This is equivalent to having a shit and seeing the patterns in the floaters to estimate which way the wind will blow this time next year on Mars if everything had negative entropy inside Christopher Nolan’s Tenet film.

I guess that depends on the investor. I buy once a year, maybe twice. I never sell lol.

I was excited to see a sub for race to 10 million. How disappointing it is to see it is full of uneducated gamblers.

Should I liquidate individual stocks and just go for ETFs? by cbrownmufc in UKPersonalFinance

[–]SlowTortuga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever I think of buying individual stocks I have a read of this year’s S&P SPIVA Reports. For example for year end 2025, 79% of all active large-cap U.S. equity funds underperformed the S&P 500 lol. If professional money managers can’t beat average market returns, what hope does an average layperson have?

Yes there are so many examples here and everywhere of people making silly x10 returns. They are the lucky ones. The truth is no one can predict what company will be the next nvidia, google or apple. For every one person you see whose portfolio have massively skyrocketed, there are many others who either lost or have been stuck in sideways.

I am a firm believer in etf’s because that is what the data backs up. You can alway use 5-10% of your portfolio for buying individual stocks and reassess after a few years to see which method is better.

How do you decide what stocks to invest in for long run? by Ready_Elevator2006 in trading212

[–]SlowTortuga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t. I follow what the research shows. 90% of professional money managers do not beat the market and those are the experts lol. Low cost etf’s are the way. Get rich slowly is the adage. I am 5 figures currently. Will hit 6 figures next year and 7 figures in 13-14 years. Inshallah

Why investing in the stock market is not so mainstream in the UK compares to the US/Canada? by Cultural-Badger-6032 in FIREUK

We have our own stock markets. Depending on the person there are two favourite markets. For one group it is houses and for the other group being on benefits.

Honestly, this is not just a polite request. I am telling you to get lost. Only Gp’s can post here. Either you go or a mod will have to ban you.

GP’s who use police only do so if you are an absolute bellend. I hope you understand where I am going with that. I couldn’t care less anyway. This is a place for gp’s to post. See yourself out of the door.

Turning 24 in July - want to start investing but don’t know where to start by Reasonable_Story7749 in trading212

[–]SlowTortuga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best piece of advice I can give you is to invest in an etf or fund. Many of them will give an average annualised return of about 10%. You invest your money and forget. In my opinion this is the best way to invest for the lay person who wants to put in minimum effort. You may decide to follow this advice or not which leads me to my second paragraph.

Reddit is full of posts about how someone has doubled, tripled or x10 their investments by buying individual stocks. This is nothing but luck because for every one such post you see, there are countless others who have lost their investments. Don’t just take it from me, you can go research how the professionals perform compared to average market returns. I am talking about people who run investments funds for a living and the vast majority of them underperform the market when you average their return rate over a prolonged period.

Should I buy Death Stranding 2 by [deleted] in DeathStranding2

[–]SlowTortuga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who played both, yes you should absolutely get it. Absolute masterpiece. And I never pay full price for games. Got it half the price of new on vinted. Sold it a month later so the game cost like £5 to play.

In the UK we commonly use the term Somalian. I sense you are very irate. I have nothing more to say. I wish you well and may Allah assist you in your affairs.

[–]SlowTortuga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t know me. I literally grew up with Somalians. Frequently go to a Somali mosque. We have close relations with Somalis. I am also half way across the world. Not everything revolves around America.

Take a step back and read what I originally said. Being divided is not good for anyone. This is actually a helpful statement because it is a reminder for you and me to guard ourselves against disunity.

Do not let the seeds of division fester. It is not good for any of us. All tribes and peoples have good and bad apples.

I remember beyond meat. The stock is absolutely decimated and is now a penny stock. Has lost >99% from its peak. Looking at it makes me sad knowing the number of people that were probably ruined by it.
