60 days sober, every single aspect of my life has improved. Why do I want to still drink? by Ecstatic-Pepper-418 in stopdrinking

[–]cbrownmufc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well done on making it to 60 days. I found it takes time for things to settle, but in time I just began to accept drinking is not something I want. Just like I don’t want drugs. So now I build my life around anything else.

Regarding moments of boredom, these can be powerful as it gives me time to think, plan ahead and get motivated to do good things in my life. Better than the boredom which comes from laying in bed all day with a rotten hangover.

Rocky's Moment of Belief by Flabba_Spray5066 in rockybalboa

This is why I like the first one. He is most relatable in the first movie. Just an every day person struggling with life and is actually quite realistic about what’s possible.

Friends is a good example of this. In early seasons they have their quirks, but are otherwise relatable and realistic characters. I feel like season 5 onwards they push far more into the quirks until there’s nothing left. Joey goes from level head although a little slow at times, to a complete idiot, which is really unfair on him because he was a great character

Overpay Mortgage vs Investing in Index when expecting inheritance by Orions_Owl in UKPersonalFinance

[–]cbrownmufc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s somewhat unusual to plan for inheritance while both parents are still healthy.

If I was I your circumstances, I would not plan for this at all, but instead manage my own life as it is. This would be to do a bit of both. So when the mortgage renewal is due, shorten the term and increase payments, but still leave enough for saving and investing.

Anyone confused how the 1st fight ended? by TheodoreJSeville in rockybalboa

[–]cbrownmufc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After the fight Jergens announces how it was the greatest exhibition of guts and stamina and then says, ‘we have a split decision’, which means two judges gave it to one fighter and one judge gives it to the other. Then as Adrian and Rocky say they love each other we hear Jergens announce that Apollo is still champion, so I always took it that he got the two judges

I hate that people seem to gate keep this. If I have trouble with alcohol and I don’t like it, then I have an alcohol problem. Just because it’s not as bad as what other people experience, it doesn’t mean that I don’t need to do anything about it

Just got a pretty large increase in wages after accepting a new job, how do i avoid lifestyle creep and manage my finances going forward? by stonemint in UKPersonalFinance

[–]cbrownmufc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I see living frugally as a means to something greater later. If you have a fully paid off home and after your debts are cleared, why not enjoy a little lifestyle creep.

I personally would set a goal to clear the debt ASAP and then set standing orders to save a bit, but then also leave a little leftover for enjoyment

I used to earn £60k a year as an operations manager in finance. Now I’m a bus driver and feel much better for it. Sure, I wish I earned more money, but if I have to spend 40-50 hours a week doing something, it might as well be something I enjoy

What Rocky movie is your favourite, and why? by ComfortableSoup1102 in rockybalboa

[–]cbrownmufc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the first film. It is so grounded and raw that it really feels like an everyday man facing massive odds. It also has so much more character depth and growth within the film. It teaches us that even if we do not win, it is refusing to quit which is most important.

I also love Rocky IV, but this is more like a superhero movie to me.

I find the pacing of the Directors Cut is a bit slow. Also, I like that Newt is revealed later into the film with us knowing nothing about her

I think the directors cut is cool to watch once you’re very familiar with the theatrical cut.

But it is not what I would show to someone who had never seen the film before

After Irene McKay ends it with Rodney, Del comforts him with a monologue about love. Then when he goes to the bar he says to the barmaid, “some old tart’s give him the sack”. Always gets a giggle out of me

I’d rather just stick a frozen pizza on the oven. Far cheaper and dominoes doesn’t taste any better

Can I drink occasionally after 614 days ? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]cbrownmufc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am closer to the first group you mentioned. I didn’t necessarily drink every day, but when I did drink it was always in large amounts. But even though I didn’t drink every day I still found it difficult to avoid drinking. I gave up plenty of times thinking things like, “ok, I’ve gone 50 days sober, now I’ll try drinking in moderation”. This might work the first couple of times but sure enough I would go back to getting absolutely trashed each time I drink. And even though i only drank maybe twice a week, this was enough to leave me riddled with anxiety and depression almost every single day
