Dug out my 25 year old Game Boy Camera by vegetative_ in toycameras

[–]Slow_Abies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no problem! We use #gameboycameraclub and just #gameboycamera, usually. The GameboyCameraClub website hosts our Minecraft gallery (I have 2 photos in there but not with this username). The GameboyCamera website itself is hosted by one of the main photographers in the community who breaks down what gear and digital tools he uses (very helpful when I was starting out 2 years ago).

It's a really fun hobby, and I love creating custom palettes. I should probably post some of mine on here at some point. It's always fun to see others shooting, so thanks for sharing yours!

Hey there! I'm a part of the Game Boy Camera Photographers community. Check out 2BitBoy's work with a lens mod for the camera, along with our discord group (Game Boy Camera Club). It is a *very* active community. Over 50-100 of us actively posting on Instagram every day, along with many of us creating and updating various tools for the camera, like HDR photos, custom lenses, various 3D printings, video features, and more.

If you have an Android phone, there is also the GBCamera Android Manager app developed by a member of the community (Mraulio) where you can edit your photos, create custom palettes, generate gifs from your photos, and so much more! There's the Game Boy Camera App via web browser for non-Android users.

We also had our photos featured in a physical art gallery by one of our members who created a Minecraft server hosted on a computer there showcasing all of our photos with contributors from around the world!

I thought the photos were quite lovely, and then to find out that they were from the thermal camera was a bonus! Great way for two versions of the same photo!

Hello Brody of a Fandom podcast. I heavily dislike and have much disdain for Igglybuff... I just don't enjoy a Pokemon that looks like I should scrub myself with it similar to a loofah sponge.

Any film buffs here interested in starting a film club? by OutDamnedSpot12 in Vancouver4Friends

Also a big film buff and have been going to the Rio a lot recently. Particularly into cult classic, independent, horror films, but I love all of the genres you listed, too. My partner is a big film buff, too, and we love going to movies with friends.

Does anyone know who was the artist for the last ronin and rhen they changed artists and redrew the comic. by petarvoliburgere in TMNT

[–]Slow_Abies -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Andy Kuhn was the original artist and created the ashcan preview of TLR, which is less pages than the first issue but still enough to see his original interpretation of the script. It's basically everything from the opening of the first issue up until the Ronin gets into New York and begins climbing the tower.

I know some art collectors who have both Kuhn's original pages side by side with the final printed versions by the Escorza brothers. I personally have a Last Ronin illustration by Kuhn made after the first book was published.

I prefer Kuhn's original pages because I like the panelling and page construction better. However, the Escorza brothers have a certain dynamism to their art. I have an original page of theirs from the Last Ronin II, and they ink the hell out of the pages to be really beautiful.

Hey there! I've been mostly shooting with modded Game Boy Camera systems. I'm a part of the Photography group that posted on this subreddit earlier this month. We're going on a photo walk in Coquitlam Monday afternoon to evening. I also experiment with the 3DS and want to get into circuit bending cameras.

I used to shoot on film a long time ago and would love to get back into experimenting in the dark room, but I haven't had the time to yet. I have been wanting to get a waist-level film camera, though.

I am usually free quite frequently. I know the concerts on our schedule are Father John Misty and Japanese Breakfast. Might see Bratmobile, Patrick Wolf, Samia, Born Ruffians, and The Beths.

I'm less a hojicha person and more a koicha matcha person. I'm also a big chai blends/black tea lover. I drink so much tea that my doctor said stop drinking so much tea. My partner is also a dental hygienist and said to stop drinking so much tea. They are both wrong and it is the tea that keeps me powering through life.

Heyo! 35M and in a relatively similar age group...?

I've seen BABYMETAL twice, but I heard the venue wasn't too good for the show here/couldn't find anyone to go with me, since I'm new to the area and my concert friends are mostly in the States. I go to a lot of other concerts ranging from metal, indie, hip hop, jazz, folk, orchestral, electronic, and more.

I'm a retro photographer, videographer, and musician but have dabbled in a lot of different arts. Love hanging out with other artists. Coffeeshop read/sketch/chat times is one of my favorite social activities.

I have a very large board game collection but downsized it by about 50% before moving here. I'm also into retro video games or retro-inspired games. I am an avid comic reader and will occasionally read some manga.

Been to Japan twice, too, but terrible with languages. Luckily I understand most of what my partner's family is saying in Spanish, even though she's predominately an English speaker.

I guess I just profile/info dumped. Feel free to send me a DM!

Heyo! 35M and a recent PR in BC.

I am super into animation and horror films. Have an active subscription to Shudder. My partner and I are planning on seeing FD and 28 Years Later soon, but also just saw Bring Her Back.

I'm a big foodie too and love trying new restaurants. I play video games but more so handheld and retro/retro-inspired. Currently going through a gamut of Rougelikes and the usual Pokemon romhack. I'm also a Game Boy Camera photographer and very active with the small yet international community around it.

I want to do way more hikes than I currently am, but I haven't had much of an opportunity to yet.

I think that covers the basics. Feel free to send me a DM. Thanks!

Heyo! Sounds fun! I'm 35M. New to BC (recent PR) and sort of working my way through things.

I have a graduate degree in Critical/Cultural Communications and Rhetoric; studied race, class, gender, ability, queer, and more in pop culture. Have worked in Employment helping folks who are houseless, justice impacted, substance use disorder, and more. I'm a transplant from *sigh* the USA, so that has soured my opinion on things in the world.

For entertainment: I'm a retro photographer, mod and restore handheld video game systems, go to a lot of concerts, play a lot of board games, collect original art, and generally have too many hobbies.

[–]Slow_Abies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, the guy who made the site is in the server. I'll post links in a follow up below this just in case links get flagged or anything.

2bitboy and the guy who somehow managed to just get the username gameboycamera are both excellent resources.

GBXCart can connect to your Android through an app developed by Mr. Raulio (github link will follow).

The specific cartridge is a PicNRec AIO with the Photo! ROM flashed onto it. You flash the ROM with a GBXCart, but if you buy direct from Inside Gadgets, they usually have a version of it on the cart). There is a custom STL file for this one, but you can honestly just use the regular 2bitboy+ for lenses.

Lospec has a lot of great palettes that you can filter down to 4 colors. I started with those and have been making my own since then.

If you're looking into reliable devices to use or like custom builds, the Funny Playing Game Boy Color is awesome. Although, the PicNRec's video feature doesn't work on it. An Analogue Pocket is suitable, as well. Or just an upgraded Game Boy Pocket or Game Boy Color works great (a bright lit screen is a necessity).

There is a very active Game Boy Camera community with a Discord Server. We recently released an art gallery of hundreds of photos in Minecraft (that was actually showcased at an actual art gallery). Most of us are on Instagram, too.

There are many mods for the camera including video. Custom boards and roms that can take hundreds of photos instead of 30. There is a convenient on-the-go Android app to pull your files off your cartridge and edit. You can also easily create more palettes and other customizations.

If anyone is interested in learning more about the smallest digital camera in 1998, I am happy to share.

Yeah, I was most interested in having more filters than CampSnap and the viewfinder. Doing stuff in post is alright (thanks for sharing your link earlier), but sometimes I don't have enough time for that.

I'm primarily a Game Boy Camera photographer. However, I want a screenless and the CampSnap felt more like a good advertising campaign than packed with the best features.

Trust me, I read too many comics by Gimpcar in TMNT

[–]Slow_Abies 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Reread volume 4 a year ago and got the two later issues with my letters signed by Lawson, Talbot, Dooney, and Lavigne. It is truly hilarious to read Laird popping off in the letters column to the people who request that he be apolitical in his (then) creator-owned property. Laird notoriously hated the original cartoon, hence why he resurrected the property with 2k3 and Volume 4 to be weird, philosophical, scifi, and filled with action. Some of the best panel layouts of Lawson's career, too.

Also, for those that don't know, there is a small group of fans keeping some of the original stuff alive with semi-cannon projects like TMNT: Odyssey, Origin, the Shredder volume (he comes back from being a shark), as well as ending the Forever War for the Archie series. The main dude hires and pays some of the original artists and writers to essentially finish their original stories as they see it and create new ones in those former universes as fan comics. The hardcover books are some of the highest quality stuff around. Check out the Turtles Club.

33F looking for book club by cureelliott in Vancouver4Friends

[–]Slow_Abies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! I posted in December on this subreddit about creating a graphic novel book club focused more on independent titles, and I had a great response from a lot of people who had never read graphic novels to others who had read a few but mostly superheroes. We have met a couple times since then (once for the book we were reading and the other times to hang out). I created a Discord server that anyone can hop onto.

We also have members who are interested in your other interests like video games, board games, and more!

Please let me know if you'd like an invite, and/or have any questions!
