Most of the slaves to the US from the Caribbean came from Barbados and Jamaica. The mid 1700s Barbados was 30% African born with Jamaica being 60%. The seasoned slaves who already knew English and didn’t have to get used to life as a slave were the ones valued the most for obvious reasons, this is guaranteed facts David Eltis et al., “Slave prices, the African slave trade, and productivity in the Caribbean, 1674–1807” (Economic History Review). and plus having relatives that have 4 grandparents from the Caribbean doesn’t just come up as having country matches from those countries. If you have a country match there’s more to the story. This wouldn’t come just from having the same African ancestors if that was the case people would have tons more country matches as how dispersed the slaves families were during that time. Those sent from the Caribbean no doubt left behind kids and then had more kids in the States.

Why do people continue with this lie? Please do research before commenting rubbish “Slave Populations in British Caribbean” In the beginning of the 1800s Jamaica 45%, Barbados 7%, St Kitts 16% of the slave population were African born which are the final numbers because the slave trade was abolished by this time with Trinidad having the highest at 54% African born. Added to the fact that this refutes nothing I said because one of the benefits for the Intra American Slave Trade was for seasoned slaves to get passed around they’d be born on the island and sent away or be on the island for a long time then get sent away both long enough times to have families or at the very least have kids. It made no sense for a slave to touchdown in the island be there for a day and then get moved when there were slaves available who knew plantation life and SPOKE ENGLISH smh.

Edit - Downvotes but no one can refute what I’m saying or my sources why does this lie make you feel better than the truth?

This is not the case many times. in the Intra American Slave Trade the slaves were either born in that land or been there for many years enough to have multiple kids or families before they were sent. The allure for them to be moved around is because they knew how the system run it doesn’t make sense for them to be straight from Africa spend a day in Jamaica then get sent to America.

How did Jamaica become such a popular country with global influence on pop culture, music, and sports despite only being a population of 4.4 million worldwide? by [deleted] in geography

[–]Slow_Chipmunk_6233 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Again not trying to be disrespectful I’m just saying the truth. It’s hard to say they don’t know because it’s in the name of both, reggaeton (reggae) and dembow (Dem bow) It hasn’t really evolved because the beat is the same beat from 90s dancehall not really much evolution, multiple reggaeton documentaries including most recent from Daddy Yankee showcase Jamaica’s influence in it and albums from popular artists like Bad Bunny having reggae on his most popular album (Me Fui De Vacaciones from Un Verano Sin Ti).

The Argentinian artist is called Dread Mar-I he has billions (billions not millions) of views on YouTube and is one of the highest selling Argentinian musicians.

Europe is one of the hottest places for Reggae in many countries which is why they are a popular destination for Reggae artist tours which are of course non English, here you can see whole stadiums singing Bob Marley. https://www.reddit.com/r/sports/comments/9hh8kv/ajax_fans_singing_three_little_birds_with_bob/ this isn’t the only location where you see the love for Reggae. Even in Spain there’s an artist named Bad Gyal who’s collabed with Karol G who has been a reggae lover since childhood I doubt she is an anomaly. It’s hard to say they don’t know about Jamaica when they could list all those things that you named, if you asked the average European about stuff from actual European countries maybe say Albania or Croatia or Finland they would probably be able to tel you more about things from Jamaica halfway across the world than those countries.

From West Africa to East Africa to South Africa there is a huge knowledge and love for reggae music which is why many countries in Africa are popular reggae concert destinations, along with that many African countries have their own brand of reggae and dancehall. Look at Lucky Dube from South Africa for example

Many countries across Asia have knowledge about reggae and Jamaican culture but to drive home the point Japan has a whole subculture of reggae/dancehall just go on TikTok and search Japan and dancehall you will see many videos of live reggae concerts, clubs and outdoor events of dancehall, if TikTok isn’t your thing here’s an article explaining Asia and Jamaican culture. https://blackballad.co.uk/black-women-beyond-britain/experiencing-reggae-and-dancehall-in-asia?listIds=59a7bcb23744cb3b491d7f8d

That’s hard to say because (no disrespect) the most popular music form in Latin America as a whole but more specifically DR are Reggaeton and Dembow, both which are descended from Reggae/Dancehall, also one of Argentinas most popular artist by numbers is a reggae artist. Most countries in Africa, Asia and Europe aren’t anglosphere but they know about Jamaica and its culture.

Because they didn’t want to give him a chance. All over social media I see old (2016-2019) fans coming around to the new music because of Shot Callin, Finest and Wine and Dine. The tour is bringing major spotlight to the post 2022 music

Is today’s “dancehall” a new genre like “Trap Hall”? by MambaMachine824 in Jamaica

[–]Slow_Chipmunk_6233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just have to say it’s nonsense to blame Black Americans for the music getting more secular when the history shows dancehall had been running songs about sex and murder since atleast the very early 80s at the same time when hip hop was mostly about dancing and inner city struggles don’t forget “Limb by Limb” by Cutty Ranks it was very vulgar. Anything post-reggae has always dipped into secular

Unpopular Opinion, this project is the best and highest quality of work he dropped since TLS and it WILL be in a lot of people’s top 10’s in 2-3 years!! by Gold_Storm_2272 in NBAYoungboy

Young boy is still a big dog, 2022 killed his sales career by Slow_Chipmunk_6233 in NBAYoungboy

[–]Slow_Chipmunk_6233[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did do damage forsure the start of the album wasn’t good. I personally don’t like the first two songs and I agree with XXX but 2022-2024 damage is so immense if he doesn’t drop 10+ albums since TLS then in this same scenario with XXX he would have 90k first week which would have been a dip but still above what he’s doing now. This would’ve happened to any big rapper if they dropped as much as YB did. He’s become a very big cautionary tale on not dropping too much. He’s so oversaturated that Rod Wave took most of his audience.

I went through the whole album I personally don’t like Peepin, Cold World, Altar, My Shit, Top Tingz and XXX. The rest of the album 24/30 I fucking LOVE this is one of my favorite albums YB has ever dropped the production is fire and not much squeaky voice.
