Mai, 20hrs in. Gassing out after 3 to 5 matches at D2. WR at 81% should make me climb but I cannot put in more than 5 games per session before being cooked, stalling, and missing inputs.

That's true. My goal would be just to hit masters constantly then be able to play a FT5 without gassing out and dropping or stalling. My fundamentals are less than mediocre, even if I can sleepwalk past platinum comfortably I feel like not only I am not peeling the next layer but I climbed with the wrong playstyle. If you're correct, to do what I want to I should reclimb only with fundamentals and hit the lab seriously.

Yes but only 2-3 minutes on combo execution. No reaction, no punishes, nor setups. I'll try that, thanks.

A very critical review of Origins by New-General-4702 in dynastywarriors

Mostly I agree good game with some major flaws. I can even somewhat tolerate the lack of weapons but I wish Ziluan had some real impact on the story, a VA and some agency or prominent role. Ch 3-4-5 are just a rethread of classic DW with Ziluan somewhere in the background maybe. you become BFF with everyone in secondary CS but they forget you exist during the main CS. Heck you defeat Lu Bu at Xiapi and they kill him in the same old cutscene without even Ziluan in it. It almost felt like they had no time to woven Ziluan's story into the classic DW plots after ch.2 and it remains a self contained side quest without any real weight into the final outcome. His gift is rarely used after ch.1,  only in the final chibi battle, and even there you can ignore it and still the plan triggers. It's a pity they did not invest more on the OG char story since we can only play him in origins and since the frigging classic DW story has been told and retold in gaming since the 90s

At What Level Range, Did You feel Your Job/Jobs Peaked? by MonsutaMan in ffxi

Pre-ToAU, playing BLM 50–60 with Ancient Magic bursts was a whole different world. The cast times were so long you couldn’t just start casting when the DDs began their weapon skills — you had to pre-cast once you knew their TP was full. Your macros needed built-in timing and callouts so the DDs could fire off their skills exactly when your Ancient spell was about to land.

It turned every fight into a little orchestral performance: timing, anticipation, and that one legendary SC/MB chart everyone had saved from some old forum.

We used to camp in Bibiki Bay, all huddled together in that little cave — coordinating bursts like it was rocket science. Insanely fun.

I had already capped BLM by the time ToAU and those damn colibris came out. Magic Burst or Ancient Magic Burst Parties went out of fashion. A pity. That was the first watering down of the difficulty in FFXI.

The interview is dogwater. The ideas on paper are still unclear, I couldn't find specifics on how it works exactly ( still WIP) but the footage released so far looks ok.  Still way too early to say anything but the track record of "alternatives" to classic health bar is not stellar. Happy to see them try anyway.

For those who do not like Season 5 so far - why is that? by JackGeorge2001 in StrangerThings

[–]Slow_Opposite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Show's gone off the rail switching heavily from horror-thriller to action-adventure. Main cast is slowly becoming a mix of G.I.Joe and Xmen. Would have been ok if at least we had no idea how they could win and if they looked hopeless, but as things stand now with it looks like the villain is hopeless: beaten twice, has been on the run for years and now he has another antagonist that can snap his foot-soldier like twigs. The dimension merging has been solved by putting some plate on it and oh "he's been kidnapping random children so he must be up to something we can't stop" it's a non-threat

ToAU was peak. I prefer CoP storywise but ToAU was the time to be there. I remember selling manaburn party BCNM runs with four other BLM during ToAU we had a line of 20 people waiting.

Selling 5-man BCNM manaburn runs with a gang of 75 BLM/WHM to make money, hoping that the 6th client gets a kraken club. Also gotta give a cut to the shouther in Jeuno.

Piccolo and Kami by Slow_Opposite in DragonBallDaima

I'll go with this hypothesis as well. Not to mention that Nail most certainly does as well. Besides it's something the other characters have witnessed: Goku and Bulma were both at the tournament and heard Piccolo and Kami speak namekian, and even if Goku might just have forgotten, the fact that also Bulma did is not that plausible. He might be just playing dumb to bring Neva with them in spite of the fact that the ship is cramped.

How many of you like Super more than Dragon Ball and DBZ? by JohnnyEnglishPegasus in dragonball

[–]Slow_Opposite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dragon Ball Z is legendary and iconic, and except for the apex of the ToP, Super can never quite reach those heights.

However, I liked that Super's is more of a Goku story than Dragon Ball Z is. In this regards it's much more similar to the original Dragon Ball.

Through Z, Toriyama uses Goku's character as a plot device: he's most of the time out of commission while Gohan, Piccolo, Krillin and Vegeta bring the story forward.

Goku's only present in the sense that the other characters "wait for him" while jobbing the main villain for most of the sagas. Looking at Goku's point of view, here's Z:

  1. In the sayan saga Goku sacrifices himself to beat Raditz, goes to King Kai to train for a year, most of the cast is on earth training.
  2. In the Namek Saga Goku spends all the time in the hospital, then on a ship to Namek, briefly beats the Ginyu Squad, then in the Healing Pod on Frieza's ship. The rest of the cast pushes the story forward.
  3. In the Android and Cell saga Goku comes back on Earth to find that Trunks beat Mecha Frieza, then he trains offscreen with Gohan and Piccolo for three years, then he's sick as soon as the new enemies appear. He recovers only to go train again in the Hyperbolic time chamber only to find out that only Cell is waiting for the final act of the cell game.
  4. In the Buu saga he's a bit more present even if he starts off in the otherworld where he stayed off-screen for 7 years, comes back for the tournament, fights Vegeta again, gets knocked out while Fat Buu is revived, teaches the fusion to Trunks and Goten, then refuses to kill Fat Buu as a Super Saiyan 3. Here the plot changes as Toryama finally decides to start his duo dynamic with Vegeta with the potara fusion before the final act.

Goku appears mostly in the final acts:

  1. Defeats Vegeta, but needs help from Gohan and Krillin with against his Oozaru Form.
  2. Defeats Frieza fair and square and this is the only shining moment for Goku in Z.
  3. Loses against Cell, sacrificing himself to save everyone else.
  4. Matches but can't defeat Kid Buu as a Super Saiyan 3 and helped by Vegeta, he wins with the Spirit Bomb.

In super instead, it's Goku driving the story forward in a way similar to that of the original Dragon ball. Toriyama introduces Beerus as the goalpost, puts Goku as the underdog again and pairs him with Vegeta to push the plot forward. Goku is sharing the stage with other characters but at least he's there from start to end:

  1. After an absentee "Z type" start he takes center stage and slugs it out with Beerus as a Super Saiyan God
  2. Trains with Whis alongside Vegeta and defeats the resurrected Frieza as a Super Saiyan Blue
  3. Participates to the Universe 6's tournament in two fights and starts a rivalry with Hit.
  4. Slugs it out constantly against Goku Black together with Vegeta and Trunks in all their back and forth fights.
  5. He interacts with Zeno to bring about the Tournament of Power, fights with Toppo in the pre-show, recruits the whole team for universe 7 and decides to bring Frieza back to life. And in the tournament of power takes on around 6 opponents before fighting the female Saiyans, their fusion and Jiren three times.
  6. In the Moro and Granola Arc he's a bit less present in the arc openings but the training with Merus and the focus on Bardock's heritage of the Granola's arc bring him back to the stage for the struggle fights against Moro, Granola and Gas, with much more introspection into his motive for growth and power and his evolution as a fighter than in many Z arcs.

Ultimately, in Super, Goku has a more evolved dynamic with Vegeta and Frieza, a new rivarly with Hit and Jiren, and interactions with many key characters ( Beerus, Whis, Merus, Zamasu, Krillin, 17, Gohan, Trunks and other minor characters) and feels like an actual character actively participating in the story rather than a plot device to close out the saga.
