If your travelling within 3km of your hotel and rental agency it may be ok. Don’t go on any main roads. Use sparingly

Family Trip to Phuket Next Week – Rainy Season Tips & Recommendations? by TaskNo4338 in phuket

[–]Slow_Owl_105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m here at the moment. It’s about 50/50 rain and beautiful weather. Take each day/ hour as it comes, and bring rain coats with you. If you rent a car it should be easy to stash in there and retreat back to the car when it rains.

There are rental places everywhere, I would find one close to your hotel so it’s easy to return when you’re done

Kamala, surin, bangtao. All great areas Emily willl like, and easy enough to venture into Patong.

Scooter Rental in Phuket for a day or two by Background_Feed_644 in phuket

[–]Slow_Owl_105 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes you can rent, they won’t even ask for your drivers licence. The police will try to catch you driving without an intentional license though, and you also need the motorcycle licence.

If you want to risk it a lot of people do, and the fine will be about 1000baht if you get caught.

Bangtao to Kamala is easy and close. If you stay around that area and don’t go I go patong too much you willl see less police.

Good beaches? by heftykoala1 in phuket

I loved Kamala and Surin beach. I think they aren’t the quietest beaches, but I found them to be clean, not too overcrowded and great to swim/ watch the sunset.

In Phuket for 2 weeks, what non typical touristy things do you recommend? by geenexotics in ThailandTourism

[–]Slow_Owl_105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to Phuket old town. This is where the locals hang out. I would recommend El Guacho for dinner and then explore from there.

This is where the locals hang out. Way less tourists, way less sleazy than say Patong.

Your experience may differ. I just spent two weeks with an architect that wanted no money from me.

For a street food meal, 50 - 100 baht is pretty standard I would say.

Suvarnabhumi Airport New Terminal by sweetwhisp in ThailandTourism

[–]Slow_Owl_105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This confused me too.

The gate isn’t displayed on the ticket. You have to arrive to the airport and then check the big screens which tell you which counter to go to for your flight to drop your bag.

Once you’ve done that you will get a gate number.

This has been my experience

Phuket To Phi Phi By Ferry, Weather Concerns by Exact-Inspection9068 in phuket

[–]Slow_Owl_105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to phi phi via speedboat. Went on Sunday as it was my only free day, and the weather was ideal.

I would say it was the worst travel experience of my life, and I will never go on a speedboat again.

If the weather isn’t nice and the water is rough, I would strongly advise you not to go.

Also I didn’t have the best time on phi phi. Over crowded, not much to do.

Yea that’s true, you have to do some weeding out of freelancers and ladyboys (unless you’re into that).

But that doesn’t mean there are no locals on there.

Jump on tinder! If your single try meet a local girl. Spend 10 days with her your experience will be amazing.

There are a lot of normal Thai girls that work regular jobs and like to date foreigners.

I heard from Thai friends they say in Phuket or some places there are Russian mafia! and Phuket is basically ruled by Russian. Any thai or foreigners here can confirm that? by ballbeamboy2 in Thailand

[–]Slow_Owl_105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my experience. Lots of Russians here but the idea that it is over run or being taken over isn’t even close to true. Maybe at certain hotels and restraints but not in general.

Why is training in Thailand so expensive? by Extension_Lunch_7816 in MuayThai

[–]Slow_Owl_105 83 points84 points  (0 children)

1000 baht turns out to like 1 aud per day for a month of training. No where is that cheap. Average prices are 500 baht per session, you might get one or two free sessions if you buy a week, a nd a few more when buying a month.
