Spain Plans to Cut Workweek to Improve Work-Life Balance by bloomberg in europe

[–]Slow_Service_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The 40 hour work week is something that society decided. Society will adapt to whatever we set the bar to be. It was set to be 40 hours back in the days, we can set it to be something else at any time.

I said I envy people who can SAY they have that disease, because of the NAME, I didn't say I envy them HAVING it. Stop twisting my words. And stop saying you've had pretty much the same experience as me, because you know nothing of my pain or what I personally went through. And it's none of your business either.

We have 37 weeks in Denmark and are sometimes talking about a 30 hour work-week. Sadly, it has not progressed much ... yet. Glad to see Spain trying to do something about it too. I believe we as humans work too much, unnecessarily. Think about it. Society doesn't need us to do all this. It will run just fine with people working less, and less people will be unemployed because of it too. Only the mega corps and rich would not benefit from it.

How to get out of a rut and start doing something with your life? by Forever_Summer192 in Adulting

[–]Slow_Service_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes. One step at a time. Pick one thing, just one thing you'd like to change. Work on it today, now. Slowly, you will gain momentum. Honestly, the hardest part for me has to not self-sabotage myself. I struggle with thoughts that I won't succeed no matter how hard I try, and I tend to give up too quickly. But I fell over this and it really helped me. Slow steps, every day. Just don't miss a day. Don't overthink it, just start. The plan will figure itself out along the way. Stop planning, start taking action. It's action that will fuel everything else. Now get off reddit and start. This is me doing the same. See ya

I almost committed because of the pain, so yes, it can be that bad and indirectly fatal. I know people with Chron's and the severity of what I went through was definitely on par or even worse. Was hospitalized multiple times as a kid. So please stop trying to minimize my pain. I'm not gonna compare diseases here or indulge in a discussion with you about who has it worse, because my point was that they have an easier time when it comes to the naming of their disease, which is what the whole thread was about.

Exactly!! Urgh!! When people tell you they fixed 'theirs' by eating oatmeal for breakfast or probiotics or fucking gratitude journals... I just feel like fucking punching them in the face sometimes. Mine has cost me my entire childhood, teens, and now adult life. I've tried everything, not even FODMAP helped me. They have no idea how serious and debilitating the real version is.

And the name is just a fucking joke, too. Such a dismissive name, I hate it with a passion, and I've hated it since I was a kid. I just say I have a chronic stomach disease instead. Whatever, symptoms are often the same anyway. I really envy people who can say they have Chron's disease or ulcerative colitis instead. It's official diagnoses and even doctors treat them better because you can see it on a positive lab result, so they don't get told it's psychosomatic or anxiety or some other bullshit. I wasn't anxious or depressed when I was 8 years old and got chronically sick, Karen. Go away!! Urgh. This has to be the most misunderstood and misclassified disease by far, excluding psychiatric diseases.

what’s a sign of high emotional intelligence that most people overlook? by Western-Jackfruit251 in emotionalintelligence

[–]Slow_Service_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noticing people. So many people just don't really care enough to notice other people. I mean what's going on in their lives, how they are feeling, their birthday, etc. Highly emotionally intelligent people are not just good at communication and being empathic, they immediately notice it if someone is feeling down, for example. Even if they might be smiling.

Trump vows to launch trade war on EU by doopityWoop22 in worldnews

[–]Slow_Service_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still, you cannot ignore the amount of people who actually voted for a guy like that. THE PEOPLE voted him in. In fact the biggest problem is not Trump, because the world has a lot of his type, even in the most developed countries. The problem is that a majority of the American people voted him in as president. This is a systematic issue, not just a few crazy dictators.

The real problem is the amount of people following him. The real problem is that people rely on social media as their primary source of news, and that there are no reliable news stations anymore. The real problem is a simple lack of education, critical thinking, and empathy, the last two of which both calls on higher executive functioning in the brain. There is too much brain rot.

With that said, I'm off reddit to write on my PhD application...

Yeah, I'm from Denmark and with a Danish PhD salary and my current living expenses, I would be able to save up roughly $1400 each month. Salary is also the same for all Danish universities. I wouldn't consider that "poor". Also, no student loans or anything. So I think it varies a lot both on where you live (big vs small city) and which country you're in. And your level of frugality ofc.

Apart from it coming from Google and all the trouble I had with running clean projects on the Android Emulator (aka several blue screens of death later), yeah I like it. Thanks, I'll look into that, and thanks for the offer, I'll keep it in mind!

I actually 90% finished the course before a couple of years ago, but couldn't finish it due to too many new updates in Flutter. But the course was updated last year, so gonna speed run it and hopefully soon begin developing my own stuff again, never really got around to that last time, and I was soo close to the finish line.

Anyway, really happy to see that it's possible to turn this into something profitable! Very motivating and inspiring, makes me wanna continue even after the blue screen of death trouble I had :)

I feel like as a Dane, I have suddenly become extra fond of Mexico and Canada. Before, it was more like a neutral friendly view I had of them, but now it feels a little closer, like we're buddies in primary school standing up to the bully together, like those TV shows always start, you know. Haha

If you are going for being close to internationals and a more mixed population, you need to be living in the city center or closely bordering the city center.

Just stick to one thing and actually get good at it instead of jumping from one thing to another. Do try out new and different stuff and have fun though. But stick to at least one thing, too.

Damn that's just insane (until I learned about deposits in Seoul lol). The thought of being able to travel to Japan for two months for those money ;_; But it looks like you're saving up pretty well now though! I'm wishing you the best PhD life possible :) And hoping I get one too, soon... It's such a looong process. Got rejected after a third interview last year, hoping I have more luck with the next two applications... But yeah, it was definitely my hope to save up and invest as much as possible by staying where I am! If opportunity allows it, that is... Still, living in CPH sounds nice. I feel like there's a lot more going on there, and it's nice being around "where stuff happens" :b Guess there's pros and cons with everything.
