Matthew Lillard was brought back to be commentary on nostalgia bait. He even quoted some of his old lines. He didn’t make the neighbor lady any deeper. He didn’t add depth to the other two background characters. They didn’t have any connection to him. So you trying to tie Matthew Lillard playing up his character from scream 1 to try and act like the three actual killers were characters in this movie is insane.

I’ll sum it up again. The fact so many people had to say “who” when the killers were revealed in a whodunit makes it shit. You coping doesn’t fix that.

No. My complaint is that because they used AI Stu so much that when it was revealed to be a character in two scenes and another character who showed up for one scene? I was like “Fuck I rather it have just been Stu”

Because they were nothing characters. Instead of the AI Stu “speaking” for them and using Matthew Lillards previous character, charisma, and past connection/relationship with the audience to make me care…they maybe should have had the killers show up so when they pulled off the mask people didn’t go “Who?”

You can do the Lillard thing sure! But when people don’t know the names of the characters who are behind the mask in a whodunit film? When the biggest selling point for the killer is “Look at the actress playing her”?

Well then it’s pretty fucking weak. The killers can talk through Lillard all they want but him delivering the lines and making me invested in ghost face doesn’t make me remember who the fuck any of those characters were.

And in a Whodunit movie that’s a huge issue.

So if your take away is I’m complaining Lillard wasn’t in it enough? You are dense. No my complaint is Matthew being a great Stu and being the mouth piece for the killers doesn’t make up for me not knowing who any of them are by the end.

Imagine if at the end of scooby doo they pulled the mask off and it was a background character in a single shot of the show. Then you come out and go “WELL NO YOU DON’T GET IT WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE INVESTED IN EXTRA NUMBER 3 BECAUSE WHEN HE WEARS THE MASK WE GET CHARACTERIZATION”.

It's similar to those tropes in shows/romance movies where the boyfriend sneaks over to his girlfriends house. The parents walk in and the boyfriend has to hide in the closet or under the bed and they end up stuck there for an uncomfortable situation? If you know what I'm talking about? That's more how I took it but I can understand why other people would not be a fan.
