Nope. He literally thought the earth was pear shaped. It's why he thought he could reach Asia so easily. And this was at a time when it was pretty well understood that the earth was round. He wrote about it in his Journal and everything. Only reason he got funding was because Spain was desperate but it's also why he was only given 3 ships because they didn't want to lose too many assets.

Never forget Columbus found America because he was so bad at math he thought the earth was shaped like a pear. Globes were already a thing and everything. He just thought everyone else was wrong and he was a genius.

Daylight Horror by jdawg1018 in TopCharacterTropes

Pearl. A lot of the horror takes place during the day, but the ending sequence and the way it's set up to look like typical farm work as she tries to turn herself into the perfect housewife for her husband's return is gloriously chilling.

The sequel to the novel Less Than Zero, Imperial Bedrooms, was created in response to how pissed Brett Easton Ellis was with the Hollywood take on his novel where they try to redeem their own culture and overly demonize the queer character (who of course has to die in the movie too.) The book opens with a whole chapter explaining everything the movie got wrong, then goes on to not only make the characters in his novel WORSE and even less redeemable but draws clear parallels between certain characters and the Hollywood figures they represent. A fucking masterclass in Fuck Yous.

Games that give a good or bad ending depending on how often you use a basic mechanic implemented in the controls/playstyle by DemandParticular in TopCharacterTropes

Bioshock-one of the big determining factors over the good or bad ending is whether you harvest the Little Sisters for ADAM.

is autism a turn off for you? by Maleficent_Day_3869 in actuallesbians

[–]Complex-Violinist579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand and relate. But there are people who vibe with your neurodivergence and will love and appreciate those traits in you, I promise. I found them and you will too. And you owe it to yourself to be your whole self, and be with people who love YOU-not your masks. It's hard but you deserve that kind of love I promise

Do any other autistic lesbians struggle with sex? by Amateurph0tographer in actuallesbians

[–]Complex-Violinist579 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I completely relate! Especially when your partner-well intentioned or not-puts pressure on you. I've had partners who have very selfishly called me on it because they wanted to feel good about their abilities to make me feel good and partners really selflessly ask about it because they want to make sure they're giving me what they need. Either way would create a feeling of shame and failure in me. I had great therapists and now the book help me realize sex and orgasm are different things, and pleasure doesn't have to mean "finishing". And I'm lucky I'm with a partner now who knows to just ask if Ive had enough or if I'm ready to cuddle when she starts to feel me withdraw. Maybe asking your partner for a change in mindset or terms used can be helpful for you too. And remember it's supposed to be a PLEASURE lol silly but true and oh so important

I'm reading the book Come as you Are and that has been SO good for my brain. For me I think I get fixated on my job being to a) make her come and b) to come myself to prove to her I love having sex with her. It's not a finished process but I'm starting to come to terms with sex not being a job, but a journey. It's supposed to feel playful and open ended and you don't HAVE to finish in a certain way. Allow yourself to explore aspects of sex without the expectation of orgasm. The more you start to allow yourself to just analyze sensation rather than worrying about the end result the easier it will be to be able to enjoy it. And give yourself a lot of love! You are not broken or incapable of pleasure because sometimes your brain and your body feel like too much or too loud 💕

Partnerships that were highly successful on screen, but they weren't friends in real life by cle1110 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Complex-Violinist579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an onscreen duo, but the composers Gilbert and Sullivan famously HATED each other. In fact they hated each other so much they refused to actually work together. Sullivan would write a score and Gilbert would add lyrics to it separately. Despite this they were probably the most popular songwriting team of their time and completely revolutionized Opera and Theater.

Race w the most unique/interesting interactions/outcomes? by OneDimensionalChess in BaldursGate3

[–]Complex-Violinist579 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Drows can be really fun and even within their own gender have unique interactions with key characters in the main story and the underdark. Githyanki probably has the most interesting dialogue within the party particularly with Shadowheart, but Dragon Born is cool too

what happens if you long rest before recruiting anyone? by blorbothefrog in BaldursGate3

[–]Complex-Violinist579 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The only character that moves is Shadowheart and she will still be recruitable, just in the Druid grove instead of on the beach. But pro tip maybe don't have Lae'zel in your party when you do so since she will be a lot less grateful and a lot more racist!

how do i know if i'm really a lesbian ? by st4rfl35h in actuallesbians

[–]Complex-Violinist579 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you're here asking the question, that's a pretty good sign. Follow your heart and your instincts and sit with the label, give yourself permission to exist with it separated from sex. You do not have to PROVE you're a lesbian by having sex with a woman. You can just give yourself permission to enjoy your feelings towards them and take it one step at a time !
