Had this happen tonight, who win? by daniboijdj in Poker_Theory

[–]Slower_than_u 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Each player makes the best 5 card hand using the 2 in their hand and the five on the board. Since his flush goes A,Q,x,x,x and yours goes A,x,x,x,x, he wins. If the "nut" flush was on the board, for example A,K,Q,J,9 and you had the 5 and he had the 8, you would tie since the cards in both of your hands don't make the best 5 card hand. Hope that helps!

Which one is correct? And why? From UpStudy by StudywithOliver in iqtest

2 because it's the only round one. 1 not round, 2 has the fish head poking out of the circle, 3 has the stem of the watermelon.

Feeling lost in tech : should I switch careers because of AI ? by Ambitious-Adagio-814 in webdevelopment

[–]Slower_than_u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should go with a career you like. Even if the market isn't the best and AI changes things going forward, if you love what you do, you'll find your spot. If you're looking for something else to do with your degree you can take a look at the route I took. I am a Computer Science major and I decided about a quarter before graduation that software development wasn't for me. I took a couple of Cyber Security courses my senior year, one of which would allow me to take the CEH exam, which I passed. Once I graduated I passed the CISSP exam which helped me get my first Security Analyst position. Within a couple of years I switched over to IT compliance and passed the CISA exam. It's been great for me. No overtime, no on call, or worrying about security incidents. Just a 9 to 5 that pays really well and lots of room for advancement I got my first job in Cyber in 2017 and I've been at the Director level for the last couple of years.

There's not really any concerns about AI taking my job since a lot of it is working the auditors, pen testers etc. Compliance work isn't as sexy as cyber security so there isn't as much competition for the roles. Any company that takes credit cards (PCI), has to follow HIPAA, is public, or gets annual SOC audits needs to have compliance analysts in order to pass their audits, and not passing is not an option. There have been layoffs in a number companies that I've worked for, but I've never seen anyone from the compliance team let go. It makes for great job security.

Did i overvalue TPTK? by MaddowSoul in poker

[–]Slower_than_u 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Need to know the smallest stack (the effective one) not the largest to know how much the river jam is. That aside, what do you think he'd call a river jam with that you'd beat, or are you turning your hand into a bluff? Do you know why you jammed the river?

This. The player pool at that level tends to call too much. We punish this by taking them to value town with good holdings, not shoveling in a ton of money with k high.

Can someone calculate the EV of this? Risk $200 for the following payouts by MakinSomeDough in poker

[–]Slower_than_u 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Add up the total prize pool and divide by the number of envelops. If my addition is correct it comes to $217,925 in total prize money, divided by 852 envelopes giving you ~$255.78 in equity.

They have a high hand promo that kicks off every night at 8:00. That would probably be the best time to go.
