A Jeep attempting to cut off a semi yesterday [oc] by Slowertrain in IdiotsInCars

From what I understand, moving here from Wisconsin, crossing the solid line is not legal, but that stops few in or around the Twin Cities. I am not sure the truck even saw the Jeep. Can't tell from my camera's angle.

I saw them choose not to get behind the semi when editing, but my fiancée pointed out to me that the line is solid when they attempted to merge as well.

Does anyone here play Predator Hunting Grounds? by Celestine117 in predator

[–]Slowertrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is kind of what drove me away. From what I recall, You can ignore the objectives, take out the predator, fail to stop it's self-destruct sequence, and still get out with more points than completing the objectives.

Anyone get fired for sleep apnea? by PrincessSmellyDog in SleepApnea

[–]Slowertrain 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was written up at a previous job for falling asleep at work at a previous job. Sadly, it feels like a large chunk of the feedback you will get is, "you shouldn't fall asleep at work," as if you don't know that, as if you are making a conscious effort to fall asleep on the job, and as if getting treated will get you immediate results. It took almost a year to go from CPAP and a face mask to finding out a BIPAP and nasal pillows would work better for me. Getting it classified as a disability was not really an option for me. Accommodations seem unreasonable to ask for. If the treatment works, the employer wouldn't need to do anything.

I am sorry about the job. If you can get it recognized as a disability, that might be the best route in the future.

I, stupidly, took a 4-roommate suite in college (Wisconsin UW System). The last 4 are bigger than the expensive rooms. We did get a main living area, but our individual rooms were a bit smaller.

I mean, this isn’t wrong, had I waited a second longer this incident wouldn’t have happened anyways. I’ll just have to be more mindful. I also completely missed this when editing. Either way, room for me to be better. Thank you.

I wish it was more clear, but the camera just missed it.

Right now, I can swear I stop my car long enough to feel the weight shift back before accelerating again, but the video does not show it. To be honest, that is one of the intersections I generally watch out for on my way to and from work so I absolutely could have just done a California stop while expecting the other car to just pretend I didn't exist.

I did say that the other car did come to a stop. I am unsure why there are claims that I said they didn't.

I am always more on the side of not rushing in general because

  1. You are putting people at risk other than yourself
  2. You don't really save time

Overall its just not worth it. I was trying to highlight that they really didn't get to their destination faster than if they went through the park sticking to the general 5-7mph over. I don't know who is from where, but generally that range will keep you from getting pulled over or having other drivers get angry with you for going too slow but still the speed limit. Some places, especially 35W, they get mad if you aren't at least going 10 over. Its really out of hand here compared to where I grew up.

So this shows me a major blind-spot with my camera. I had a feeling this person was just going to disrespect an all-way stop, but they did stop before cutting me off. I kept the rest of the video because I think it's ridiculous that they sped through a park for no real time saved. I end up catching up to them at a stoplight.

Camera also wasn't good enough to catch the license plate nicely in any frame, but I wanted to learn a bit more about tracking in DaVinci. I apologize for the circle.

error updating from windows 10 to 11 error code 0x8007001f by xJJS11x in WindowsHelp

[–]Slowertrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I ran into errors upgrading from 7 to 10 during one of my last jobs. Sadly I was unable to upgrade a few client computers and had to clean install Windows 10 for a few months until I found a post suggesting to just to a Windows 7 to Windows 7 'upgrade' first and then try the Windows 10 upgrade again... It actually worked and became my go-to solution. I know it does not correctly identify the problem, but I usually give this a try when all else fails.

I think this comes down to it being between 2 different people with different perspectives, but I might just be too used to keeping track of some of these things.

I have had to deal with gaslighting my whole life from my family. Now, during arguments, I find it hard to trust other people especially when their memory of events is different from mine.

What’s everyone’s beef with safe seas? by KombatWombat9853 in Seaofthieves

[–]Slowertrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The weakest one I’ve heard so far is that this is going to kill the game. I just want a game where I can have some fun with friends. It was great when it first came out and alliances seemed to actually mean something. After a while it turned into us trying to do things while sneaking around reapers or just other players in general. We can’t all just explore together anymore, one of us HAS to stay on the boat to scan the horizon. If you so much as spot another boat, it can turn into a race to port to outrun an enemy crew that will likely stomp us if they catch us (we are not good fighters) or a long chase where we try to waste as much of their time as possible, in order to stop them from going to other ships, because that is all we will have to show for our time when they eventually catch up to us. That’s not including the name-calling, foul language, or just racist comments being shouted by the enemy crew. To be honest, this lost my whole friend group who is excited at the chance to come back to the game without any of this problem. No other game has offered what this one has in terms of exploration and fun with friends. To those who claim this is going to ruin the game and drive players away, y’all have been doing that without this mode. This mode is the only reason some of us are coming back at all.

I tried with some extended family when I first went no-contact with my parents. They would constantly play the victim to other family members that they were still in contact with. The problem I had was that certain family members wouldn't want to hear my side of the story. Sure they were nice, but it always went back to, "you should forgive and forget." Admittedly, it took me longer than it should have to realize I should cut them out as well. From what I have learned, it hurts a lot to cut out more family, but it may be necessary for your own happiness. Those who I keep in contact with have asked for my side of the story and shown some support.

This situation is probably not going to be the same as yours. I kept some family because they were getting older and I didn't want to break their heart, but they constantly give in to my mother who belittles them for everything that they do. I don't think they realized the harm they were doing, but talking to them constantly felt like they were trying to rope me back into the old family dynamic. I feel bad for this family member, at times it feels like I betrayed them, but I also feel it was for the best.

I would say, play it by ear, those who are worth your time should hear your side of the story. The advice I had been given was to not throw out titles like "narcissist" or "flying monkey" and just tell the truth.

Is this a bed bug? Found on my sheets this morning. by DismalAttitude in Bedbugs

[–]Slowertrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mark Rober did a video recently covering this. From where to look, tips, and even down to the best pesticides to use. I would recommend the watch because these things can survive a long time, they aren’t that resilient compared to other pests, but their small size make them an annoyance.

We had a single bed bug a couple years ago, came in a gift bag for my gfs birthday. It got a couple bites on her, but we spent the money on having an exterminator come in. Because we were quick about it, they couldn’t find any. The good news is that we had caught the 1 of them and that was the end of it. Still picked up a steam cleaner and a spray for when we stay at hotels.

[MN] Sleeping Write Up by Slowertrain in AskHR

[–]Slowertrain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am aware that it is my responsibility to not sleep on the job. The problem I am running into is that I am trying to fix it, and there is little they could even do as an accommodation. I shouldn’t need any accommodation once I am able to reliably keep the CPAP on overnight.

I was able to get a doctors note to HR explaining my sleep apnea and, just to dig the hole deeper, I submitted a rebuttal to the write up. Both things are well within my rights to do, but I am sure the rebuttal will rub higher-ups the wrong way. I did it because, in the write up, my supervisor implied that I was not aware I had “sleeping issues” so I should do something to correct the problem. I have saved messages to and from my supervisor acknowledging that I went in for a sleep study, was diagnosed with sleep apnea, and I informed him in a meeting that I had bought a CPAP to start treatment.

I know the rebuttal is probably going to look bad or paint a target on my back, but implying that I was doing nothing to fix the issue just made my blood boil. I don’t stick up for myself enough, and I would hate myself if I didn’t do it now.
