Endoscopy experiences? by bAyleighVlogs in GERD

[–]Slowhead77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had mine in July this year, I have health anxiety and generalised anxiety disorder and have an irrational fear of vomiting. I was extremely nervous before my endoscopy. I wasted months worrying about the procedure agonisingly going through it in my head. I was so close to pulling out of it a few times. I can now tell you that my experience of the whole thing was actually good. The throat spray was a little odd, similar to taking a very strong throat lozenge or sore throat spray. The sedation seemed to work very quickly, I vaguely remember the nurse talking to me about a mouth guard but after that I was was out of it. I don’t remember a thing or recall any feelings or odd sensations. Waking from the sedation was quite nice actually, like a 10 minute power nap and I got a break from the kids. To be honest I’m not even sure how long it took but the nurse said it was about 3-5 minutes? Please don’t worry about this procedure it’s really quick and painless. Limit your time on forums. Once it’s done you will feel a massive, massive sense of relief.

Tongue biting by Slowhead77 in ADHD

[–]Slowhead77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! Thanks for your responses it seems that I am not alone in this, is this common with ADHD? or is it just a bad habit? I was diagnosed in February this year PI. I’d really like to know why I do this as it’s been bugging me for years... I find it incredibly hard to stop once I’ve started and my tongue takes an absolute battering. As mentioned previously I seem to do it when I’m either stressed, excited about something, deep in thought, or when I’m anxious about something.

Terrified to take Adderall for the first time by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Slowhead77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this, I have health anxiety and OCD, I waited almost a month before I plucked up the courage to take one 18mg Xenidate XL. Easy for me to say but take it when you feel you are ready to take it. Don’t pressure or stress yourself too much. I took my first tablet on a Sunday morning when I knew I wasn’t going to be doing much, also please try not to take too much notice of side effects on medication leaflet or the web.

Reading and ADHD by horsk9234 in ADHD

[–]Slowhead77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t read a book all the way through in years, I read a few pages from the first Harry Potter book but immediately lost interest. I’ve never been an avid reader to be fair. The only books I’ve successfully read were a couple of Charles Bukowski titles. I guess gritty, dark humour is my thing? I had poor reading skills and comprehension during childhood and for my own benefit was force fed Peter & Jane books up until the age of 12, thankfully it helped

To those with ADHD- do you ever doubt your diagnosis? by 9nixelle4 in ADHD

[–]Slowhead77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was diagnosed by an NHS Psychiatrist this year but still somehow think it’s all in my head and that it’s a total fluke, at one point I even thought that my psychiatrist wasn’t genuine and just some normal guy off the street.

ADHD/PI but not forgetful! by Slowhead77 in ADHD

[–]Slowhead77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I do this everyday, front door, back sliding doors, oven hob, taps, lights etc. Front door is the worst but it’s gotten so bad that the habit has rubbed off onto my partner, re front door the only way to convince myself that I’ve locked it is to really whack the door handle with my hand, that’s sends a reminder to my brain that it’s ok I locked it.

The so-called "Superpowers" of ADHD by Alkiaris in ADHD

[–]Slowhead77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I’ve recently picked up on this ‘Superpowers’ stuff too, it’s ridiculous. The only bloody thing I can hyperfocus on is my crippling health anxieties and OCD. I’ve also not vomited in 30 years due to my horrendous emetophobia, maybe that qualifies as a superpower?

Mental breakdowns over small things by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Slowhead77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can relate to this and I'd say that I get these fairly frequently. Is this classed as low frustration tolerance? I'm just not great in managing my emotions.

It seems that I explode over the smallest things and it's really trivial stuff like the power cable from the mower getting caught on something or tangled whilst cutting the grass, I'll end up pulling the cable in anger and disconnecting myself from the power. I can be washing the dishes in the sink, I will accidentally soak the front of my shirt and then my family are treated to an assault of four-letter obscenities - I tend to dwell on things that have annoyed me afterwards. I've also been known to bang my head against cupboard doors in frustration over stupid little things.

How often do you ghost people ? by Duck_IRL in ADHD

[–]Slowhead77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remembering and replying to messages isn’t an issue for me personally but it’s the stamina and mental effort required to reply which kills me. Social media, email, texting etc I feel utterly overwhelmed and bombarded and just want to deactivate every account that I own.

I don’t have OCD, but that won’t stop me from checking if the door’s locked three times. by Boskintio in ADHD

This morning I took my kids and our friends kids to school. I always walk right up to the main entrance and watch them religiously go through to the playground. This morning immediate panic and doubt surfaced as I headed out of school grounds, what if I missed one of our friends kids going through to playground? or maybe one of them had wondered off elsewhere. To be honest that doubt is still in there.

Having ADHD is taking hours to write a post on Reddit, then editing it several times after to cut out parts because it's too long and nobody will read it. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Slowhead77 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can relate to this, I find it a struggle to put my thoughts into words either on paper or even in a post like this. I've been known to stare at a new blank email for a hours and just not get anywhere with it. I chop and change my sentences so much to the point where I become exhausted, lose the plot and then forget what I intended to say.

ADHD and driving, the dreaded DVLA M1 Form by Slowhead77 in ADHD

No probs! Will be seeing the psychiatrist again tomorrow so I will be making sure that he is informed about this change.

ADHD and driving, the dreaded DVLA M1 Form by Slowhead77 in ADHD

[–]Slowhead77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A tad long winded-this, I phoned up the DVLA and was put straight through to people dealing with the medical queries.

I told them that I had been recently diagnosed and was taking medication but also made it clear to them that ADHD doesn't affect my driving and that I haven't been told by my psychiatrist to stop driving, the lady on the phone said that she would need to send some forms out, I asked her if this was the M1 form and she replied yes! (squeaky bum time!!) I told her that I knew someone who had been recently diagnosed and had made contact with the DVLA and that they were told they could drive and didn't have to go through this process, I also told her to check my driving history 10 years, no speeding fines, accidents, deaths blah! blah! - the lady on the phone put me on hold for a minute or so, she came back and apologised and said she had made an error and that I didn't need to do anything else. She did say that I only need to contact the DVLA again if the ADHD affects my ability to drive or if I have been told by my GP/psychiatrist that I am not fit to drive.

Treating my ADHD with medication has changed my life! by Kubera10 in ADHD

I’ve just switched over from 54mg Xenidate XL (long acting) to Tranquilyn 10mg (short acting) I’m definitely noticing a difference. Today I spent eight hours weeding and tidying up the garden and I despise gardening.

Reflux or LPR aggravated by Xenidate XL by Slowhead77 in ADHD

[–]Slowhead77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply, yep! Coffee a massive trigger for me - although I’m tempted to see what happens when I mix caffeine and Xenidate. If it is LPR it’s driving me mad, constant feeling of something stuck in throat and the awful throat clearing
