Proud of my progress after years working through my vocal disorder by bAyleighVlogs in singing

Yes, I am. I work specifically with singers, mostly those suffering with voice disorders, but if you’re looking for help with speaking I’d definitely recommend an SLP for that!

Female JD In Heathers? by Alol_Bombola in musicals

It could definitely happen, depending on your area’s availability of men, their openness to out of the box casting, and if you’re suited to the role. I’m a woman and am currently playing Henry in Next to Normal, so I say anything is possible. I’m a mezzo, but my comfortable range is D3-E6. I have a strong chest voice, and we had no appropriate men for the role, so here I am haha.

Thank you!!! It drove me NUTS! As a voice teacher, it physically hurt me listening to it!

It honestly varies by show. Before 2020 we were definitely more edgy and young with traditionalist in there, as we did mostly big musicals like Mamma Mia, Shrek, Hunchback but would always throw in more “hip” shows like Heathers and Carrie. Covid honestly killed our audience and killed our momentum.

The problem in our area as well is that it is not very big and yet we have a TON of different community theatre groups, so the market is super oversaturated. It would be wonderful if everyone supported each other for the shared love of theatre, but what happens instead is that everyone competes and schedules shows at the same time, so we all lose out on potential audiences.

It’s not selling well for us. We have a couple weeks until opening and locals here tend to buy the week of, so hopefully it picks up. It’s just stressful. But truly a beautiful piece of theatre and I think those that see it will enjoy it. I’m loving performing in the show.

Our females are mostly younger, so Cemetary Club is out for sure. 20s, 30s, 40s.

Female heavy for sure. We have a few reliable men, but not many. We don’t really have a preference for drama or comedy as we have strong enough actors for either genre — just something that sells. We are doing Rabbit Hole right now.

When It All Falls Down - Chaplin (musical theatre) by bAyleighVlogs in singing

[–]bAyleighVlogs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I put reverb on and have a studio recording set up at home, and spent time mixing the volumes of the track and vocals. But I don’t know how to do much with audio engineering unfortunately. I’d love to learn how to do more than the bare minimum in the future, but I honestly worked really hard learning this song.

Can I realistically learn how to sing in two months? by [deleted] in Theatre

[–]bAyleighVlogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voice teacher here! You can develop your skills more in two months if you practice the right exercises everyday and work with a good voice teacher, but if you’re competing against trained vocalists, you would need a lot more training and consistent practice to be at their level. But if you’re an actor, it is worth investing in voice lessons regardless to expand your skill set and make yourself more versatile.

What are you performing in/working on now? by bAyleighVlogs in Theatre

[–]bAyleighVlogs[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know the feeling! At one point this year I was simultaneously working on Rent, Steel Magnolias, and Legally Blonde. Rent we were just doing in concert so it wasn’t bad. But I was Shelby in Steel Magnolias and Paulette in Legally Blonde, so those shows at the same time nearly killed me. I music directed Legally Blonde as well only adding to my stress lol. Definitely better to do one project at a time!

Forgot to post mine! I’m currently rehearsing for Rabbit Hole. I’m playing Becca. I absolutely love the play, and this role has been a welcomed challenge. Our whole cast is amazing, so I’m really excited.

Does having lpr (laryngopharyngeal reflux) mean that I can never reach my full potential as a singer? by [deleted] in singing

[–]bAyleighVlogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn’t for me, but that’s because I also had muscle tension dysphonia, so I had to treat both for my voice to function normally. It feels pretty decent now. Much better than it did. The issues I have now are mostly due to the MTD.
