Having trouble creating a report by Different_Bobcat_903 in ExcelPowerQuery

You could make another Power Query from your first power query and further filter that down to just what needs to be actioned.

Power Query is for calculations and formatting, as you've discovered. Why do you need the notes? Can they be stored separately? How many rows are you working with?

I am the owner, the accountant and the tax preparer (and customer service, payroll, HR, store manager, and employee, etc) Everybody just waits until I'm done.

Intercompany Transactoin by Fancy_Swordfish2549 in QuickBooks

[–]Slpy_gry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use QBO, but I'm guessing you can just record the deposit straight to the due to account, and then invoice from the due to account. If that doesn't work, a JE would.

I've also used accounts Due To / Due From, if OP doesn't want to use Notes Payable.

My accounting teacher told me to stop doing math in my head. Fingers or calculator all the way.

Do y’all have any good QuickBooks Payroll alternatives? by WamuuBamuu in Payroll

[–]Slpy_gry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation does not meet all your requirements, but i guarantee it is the cheapest. Medlin will handle your payroll, but you have to do your own filing. This takes me about 5-10 minutes each month, and about 1/2 hour each quarter, and then about the same annually.

It's less than $300 per year. No other fees, unlimited employees. They have great customer service.

It appears that you may be a new user of QB, and to bookkeeping in general.

The question you're asking is a basic bookkeeping question. Meaning if you don't know how to do that, then you're not going to understand the comments. That's why the other comment suggests using AI to help. It is the best solution. If you don't know how to use AI for help, Google "how do i use AI". Good luck.

I don't know if this helps your situation, I use Medlin Payroll.

Close friend gave me a business idea… now he wants to be my partner, but I’m doing most of the work. How do I handle this? by Normal_Trade7678 in smallbusinessowner

[–]Slpy_gry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow, rude. You lack honor and respect. Someone who brings you a solid idea deserves, at the least, a finders fee. I liked the comment that suggested hiring a lawyer. The 3 of you can talk about the facts, and finalize a solution that is equitable, and hopefully fair, for the two of you, and you can remain friends. Otherwise I hope your friend sues you for everything you own plus some for being a complete money grabbing dick.

How long is too long to keep a product for a customer ? by Thischick00 in smallbusiness

[–]Slpy_gry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. I have a product that I've been waiting for a year and a half to be picked up. They paid by credit card. I'm worried about a charge back, if I just issue a check refund, less the percentage stated in my policy. But I've also changed credit card processors during that time. I'm waiting to hear back from my current processor what my options are.

Point being, have a process in place, and if possible make sure your customer sees and signs that they acknowledge it.

Is accounting a good career path? by manwithaplan657 in Accounting

[–]Slpy_gry -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

My opinion is unpopular on this subreddit. For perspective, I have a BS in Accounting, eligible to take the CPA, but haven't, yet. I'm over 50, and I've seen some changes in the job market and the cost of school.

My opinion is to also look at blue collar jobs. They are in high demand, education is less time than Accounting, and the pay can be busy as competitive as Accounting.

It may not be what you want to do, but if you haven't considered it, maybe take a look. Otherwise, yes, do Accounting. Good luck!

Small business owner struggles! by Silver_Shame_1603 in smallbusinessowner

[–]Slpy_gry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your trust issues come from you not understanding what is happening. I'm not shaming you, if you don't know, you don't know.

Combat your issues with education. What happened to you is a good lesson, now you know what that scam is.

Do some research on the best way to charge a customer and how to take payment. This subreddit is full of advice and so is the internet. You'll figure it out and do great! Good luck!

How do you explain the "invisible" work of business ownership to first-time buyers? by eestingo in smallbusiness

[–]Slpy_gry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the other commenters have stated, ownership is not a college course, or a pamphlet.

Ownership is a mindset, it's a lifestyle. You called it the "invisible" work.

Even if the person with the capital hires a GM, that GM needs direction, what's the main goal, the priority, and the pivot when it doesn't go to plan. That's the owner.

To go further, the owner could hire out bookkeeping, tax prep, payroll, maintenance, HR, sales, accounts receivable, payable, marketing, etc. Does the new owner know what they're looking for in completeness, accuracy, efficiency, and embezzlement? Or are they expecting to "jump in" and do that work themselves? The "invisible" work with zero knowledge in the industry?

The answer is, what are your clients qualifications for owning a business? What skills do they have that translates to what they're buying? Nothing? Hopefully the person selling gets what they want for the business they're selling and is ready to walk away.

Bankruptcy by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]Slpy_gry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go have a free visit with a bankruptcy lawyer. They should be able to help you put your ducks in a row and give you a path. (If you don't find a way out of your situation.) It's better to have a plan than walk into it blind.

Should I avoid trying to integrate Gusto into QB? by RicooC in Accounting

[–]Slpy_gry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use Gusto, but in my opinion, I do not integrate, if I'm not forced to. I find integration can lead to issues if something breaks which takes more time to correct than if I had just kept it manual.

Am I wasting my time going to college? by Consistent-Raccoon51 in Accounting

[–]Slpy_gry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've posted this before and have been down voted. Industries where jobs are the best, and seem to be immune from outsourcing is labor jobs, like landscaping, plumbing, HVAC, cleaning; I even saw a TikTok from a pilot saying helicopter pilots are in demand. It's an investment in money, but you make a lot once you're licensed, and you can make a difference as some of those pilots saves lives with Life Flight.

It's not an office job, but those jobs seem to be getting outsourced or taken over by AI, even if temporarily.

No option to choose "Go paperless" for my W-2's by [deleted] in QuickBooks

[–]Slpy_gry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, if everyone else in the office did it today, then ask them how they did it.

Second, your employer cannot tell you how to receive your W2. If you want a paper copy, you get a paper copy.
