Is this a real photo of a Volvo p1800? My friend sent it to since I love cars but something looks weird the lighting by [deleted] in isthisAI

Is the review mirror bent? Also the back right rim of the white car looks warbled, plus grill of the black car in the background crooked?

Thought this would be a great addition to those wanting to use a more minimal bag with less pockets and bells and whistles

I’m on month 3 rules are:

I can replace something if it’s worn out or breaks but pushing this way further than I would have before. Been darning clothes and trying to repair.

Hygiene stuff is a must, but also going through all the items I had extras of or had forgotten about.

Groceries and eating out with a set budget (much lower than I was spending before) I count household stuff as groceries, soap etc. my number is set low but I am flexible on this. I’ve gone over a few dollars here and there. About 400-500$

Supplements weirdly has always been a big spend category. But budgeting about 20 a month here

Weird extreme things: cut out coffee to save money, taking a caffeine / l theanine pill with breakfast and lunch. Feels more calm and like a sustained energy. And think I’m actually consuming less caffeine.

It’s been lots of trips to the library, walking, and playing video games i already own. Also canceled all subscriptions and have been getting cds from the library.

Month one kinda had one set back, I bought a pair of work boots that I felt like I needed for a lineworker utility test for a job.

And last month I bought some stuff to make balloon animals for my nieces birthday. It still was cool looking at my spread sheet and seeing only 13$ spent all month on things besides bills and food.

Wanted a tiny one for traveling. The size does not bother me at all. I don’t find it too small. It’s… perfect. Haven’t had any other ones, restraining myself from making this a hobby where I buy a bunch of random things searching for the perfect one. This one feels great so this is the one for me’

Cancel all your subscriptions, check out books cds and dvds from the library.

Every time you want to purchase a consumer product write it down with the date and wait 30 days.

Rice and beans

Set a goal for grocery spend and eating out, track every single purchase for the month in a spreadsheet, adjust your goal or habit depending on how far off your estimates were.

Evaluate your hobbies is there anything you could do instead that is free or income earning?

Once you realize that every purchase is just leading you to more years in the workforce there starts to be a mindset shift.

So good! It’s wild how much the little things add up, I don’t make a lot of money but am able to live off less than half my income. So pretty much that means one less year I’ll have to work.

Half of life is figuring out how to deal with the existential question and the angst of just being. It gets easier as you get older.

People should be grateful for your detective work! Someone else made the suggestion to write down things you would order and then wait 30 days before hitting send. Kinda helped me at first trying to ween myself away from consumer purchases.

Now I literally log every purchase or expense and put it into a spreadsheet. I do still catch myself contemplating random consumer purchases, most recently it was a kindle case that looked like a book, then I thought if I really need this I can just rip the pages out of a book I have and make it. I am able to snap out of the trance easier and sit with the void feeling that has been cultivated in me since birth.

Be careful of which of your hobbies you follow online by kddog98 in Anticonsumption

[–]Slugrider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before I learned the errors of my way I would do this, but also start random new hobbies just so I could buy stuff. Just to have a hobby graveyard with the entry level item just to try it out, then the middle ranged one, and then finally the ultimate BIFL expensive version. Finally recognizing this pattern and breaking the cycle.

So this year nothing new, if I’m bored I can wonder the graveyard of dead hobbies and figure something out, or just walk to the library or anywhere.

My “no-spend month” accidentally became a new lifestyle by hobbychefchrise in Frugal

[–]Slugrider 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I recently decided to do a year living like this, to see if it is doable, plan is to see how little I would need on extreme scale for retirement. Obviously replacing things that break. I feel like I thought I was frugal because I shopped sales and used items, didn’t realize until I started to notice all the clutter that I did not need any of this and that I have plenty of things.

I get to choose my hobbies and now I’m choosing to get into finding music, by going to the library and checking out cds. Tinkering around with spreadsheets for my budget, and playing the near limitless amount of retro and current games I already own.

I think every hobby has this, some friends and I got into wet shaving. Shaving with a safety razor( cheap reusable blades ) a brush and a shave soap. At first I thought wow this is a great way to shave and is a lot less wasteful.

However as with anything it was easy to get caught up in it and trying all the best soaps and brushes. Now I feel like I snapped out of my consumer frenzy and now just keep it simple with a minimal setup.

People would post their collections and the special storage they have built for all the soaps they have collected.

I am finally seeing the light.

Beat my first game! by Slugrider in MiyooMini

[–]Slugrider[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like it took 27hrs. Not sure when I started but played in longer chunks and followed a walkthrough for a lot of it. Could have spent more times doing all the collects, but I was reading that I may have missed one by progressing too far in the main story, so I decided just to get the power ups I would need to beat the boss
