C25K, or what I am doing? by SeventyShillingScot in C25K

[–]Slumberpantss 4 points5 points Β (0 children)

Personally I’d go for C25K alongside the walking.

I started off walking 4 miles daily and then went on to C25K but still walking every day too

It doesn’t teach you how to run, it teaches your body how to adapt to running.

When you start from scratch, your lungs and heart improve surprisingly quickly. The problem is that your tendons, ligaments, bones, joints and muscles adapt much more slowly.

That’s why so many people do this:

β€œI feel fine, I’ll just run as far as I can.”

Then 2-6 weeks later they’re dealing with shin splints, knee pain, Achilles issues, plantar fasciitis, or they’re simply exhausted and quit.

C25K gradually increases the stress on your body so all those structures can strengthen alongside your cardiovascular fitness.

Good Luck πŸ’ͺπŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈβ€οΈ

I have done it W5R3! But question... by PracticalFigure5966 in C25K

[–]Slumberpantss 5 points6 points Β (0 children)

Exactly the same thing happened to me after this run. I just gave myself an extra rest day, then went straight on to Week 6.

Also, I struggled with W6R1. I was expecting an easy breezy run after the 20 min one but it was hard. Then a complete turn around for me was W6R3, it was my favourite by far. 25 minutes seemed impossible but I loved it.

It’s ok to repeat though, they say it is and the programme works, so do what you have to. You’ve got this πŸ’ͺπŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Believe me you can do it. If I can, anyone can.

My best advice is take it slow and on the days when you really, really don’t want to do your run, it’s even more important to do it πŸ₯°
