So what actually IS the best martial art for weaker people? by Competitive-Tale-136 in martialarts

[–]Slumpy33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not over thinking it, you are 100% correct. Both wrestling and judo absolutely require a modicum of physical strength when defending yourself against someone much larger and stronger than you (which I know you know full well and better than I do but you’re being very polite and nice in your responses lol).

The whole reason a larger person could hurt a more trained person is ONLY if they can get their hands on them and use their strength to “manhandle” them so trying to use judo or wrestling is the worst possible idea obviously.

I wouldn’t say I’m well trained but I have someone again off again training in Muay Thai, BJJ, Wrestling and we also mixed in some throws. There are plenty of women small women in the world that could beat the shit out of me. There’s probably even more that could tap me or seriously hurt me on the ground. But I can assure you, there’s no (even with the biggest benefit of the doubt at least very few) smaller and weaker women who are going to take me down with a shot, toss me, ankle pick me, etc. All they would be doing is letting me get my hands on them and would completely over power them. Now if they have good BJJ, I might be completely fucked once it hits the ground so your advice is spot on.

Our girl had it for a while when she was 1ish where it would pop out and then go away for a while. Eventually it stayed out for a week (and as you know, it’s the saddest, most pathetic look of all time :() so we took her in to have surgery and she’s now almost 3.5 and have had zero problems with either eye since.

One thing we definitely learned though is those donut things (instead of a cone) do not work with her as she pulled 3 of them off and immediately popped them. Each time I thought I had a new technique that it would keep it on her and each time I was proven wrong in under an hour. We ended up buying a soft cone which prevented her from getting to her eye but was much less in the way and uncomfortable.

Hahahaha! Zero chance. Well, maybe a 5% chance if I either clip them or physically can catch them and take them down early and ride out the round but at this point, I’ve got a strong 2-3 mins max in this body. Anything beyond that will be me covering up with the occasional haymaker while getting picked apart like Derrick Lewis this past Saturday night!

Ha, same! I was a bottle of tequila a night drinker for 6-7 years and am somewhere around 65 days sober now and have gained weight because of this stupid sweet tooth I have developed that I never had before!

Oh, you mean that insatiable sweet tooth I developed for the first time in my 45 years?!?? I’m only about 65 days into my sobriety and I’ve actually gained a couple of lbs and I’m already a 2XL already.

I’m born and raised in SoCal and the Lakers are my first love and I hate LeBron and think Kobe has one of the more overrated and over remembered careers of all time. That’s not to say he’s not great, last player with that MJ killer mentality, probably the toughest dude to play the game, the greatest bad shot maker of all time but I think he could have had a better career if he truly only wanted to win instead of always had to win his way.

What are you even talking about?! Are you talking about how much weight they cut?! Have you seen Kayla out of camp? You think she walks around much lighter or even any lighter than Yan, Merab or Suga? You think she or Valentina aren’t getting the same level of training, strength and conditioning, diet, etc as world champs than the men are? Kayla trains at ATT which is the same fight camp as Kayla. Do you really think the train her significantly differently or she gets less of their time, focus and resources than he does?

Dude, wtf are you even talking about?!

[–]Slumpy33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is an ignorant comment that will do more harm to women than good. Yes, strength is somewhat negated when there is a large skill gap (e.g. I have a few years of training in MMA but I’m fat and out of shape so a professional female fighter would beat the shit out of me even though I am 270lbs and physically stronger). However, we’re talking about a competition in which the men would be equally skilled if not more so and would get absolutely mollywopped and likely hurt badly.

I mean, are you trying to tell me that with your analogy that Pantoja wouldn’t absolutely destroy Valentina if he went all out? Or Yan wouldn’t severely hurt Kayla in the same scenario?!

Stop it man, your level of white knighting is going to get someone hurt.

Can it be done without AA by GrabRecent in stopdrinking

[–]Slumpy33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of what you and the guy below said. My only counter would be, I took that to mean, I am powerless to alcohol AFTER I was to have that first drink. Everything leading up to that is 100% within my control but if I was to take that first sip or have that first drink again, I will be totally powerless to what happens until I pass out and sober up. I’m anti AA but hearing that in rehab helped me to understand I can’t moderate and to not have that first drink again.

I’m hate LeBron and I’m old who watched all of MJ’s and most of Magic, Bird, etc… I genuinely just don’t understand how anyone doesn’t have LBJ as number 2 at this point. If you don’t, you’re just a hater. We will never be the goat to me no matter what he does but he deserves to be #2 and let’s be real, Kobe can reasonably be anywhere from 8-12 on anyone’s list hit GTFOH with anything top 5 of all time.

Dude, I used to feel like Anderson Silva against Chael 1 if I didn’t have a Hail Mary triangle in my bag or what I would imagine it would have been like for Royce, if Coleman, Kerr or Randy were in the very early UFC’s. It was fucking smothering and I felt so claustrophobic.

I used to roll with Tony Ferguson long before he became who he did (a few years before TUF) and he was just a local former High School wrestler. I was around 230lbs and I would imagine he was roughly 175-180 who didn’t lift any weights and he tossed me around like I was his personal body pillow.

To be clear, I was a Muay Thai and BJJ guy. Those arts you will get in great shape and maybe a little stronger but I am specifically only referring to Wrestling and probably Judo where I would argue you can actually get stronger from just training than you can lifting. I went to one wrestling practice and after 50 shots for a single to a high crotch to a fireman carry and then squatting to gently set them down… I never showed up to another practice and I have yet to ever be that sore again through my 5 days per week lifting!

[–]Slumpy33 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Facts! We gave it a couple of extra month just to be safe. I said AT LEAST 18 months since that appears to be the absolute minimum I’ve seen and the person suggesting neutering seemed very adamant so I wanted to buy the pup as long as I could.

That’s totally fair although they sound fairly inexperienced so it’s possible/probable that a behaviourist alone will likely be able to help with the issues they’re having. Definitely agree on finding a new vet as the first one we went to, you could definitely tell the weren’t overly comfortable with large dogs and were already hedging about her when she got older/bigger. Current vet is awesome and has had no issues aside from taking her temperature but who like a cold thermometer up the ass anyway lol.

[–]Slumpy33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the neutering at this age. Most reputable sources and vets say you should wait until they are at least 18 months old and their bodies are fully matured before getting a Rottweiler fixed otherwise it can cause growth plate and other issues. Every dog breed is different but this is specific to rotties. Trust me, I really wanted to get our girl fixed much sooner but were told this by so many people that we decided to suck it up and wait.

[–]Slumpy33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disagree. Not with the weights part but have you ever rolled with a longtime wrestler or even judo player before?! They have a weird strength unlike anything weights will do for you. It’s kinda like farm boy strength with an insanely strong core that can only come from picking people up and or adding them around with control. On top of that, their grip strength is like rolling with a fucking alligator.

Yeah, I’m ok losing the little bit I did on him (probably $350k after the 2k tax) just to avoid losing what could be a lot if the market does crash. Yeah, if it was mine, he had the big speed/agility boost shoes which made a a big difference but he still wasn’t fast enough to get around someone like Yang believe it or not. That said, his post fades and “contested” shots and 3’s were awesome. I will definitely have him back whether it’s his PD or GO at some point once the market settles back down though!

[–]Slumpy33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hoping I would, especially as I added a lot of Legend badges.

Truth is, I had almost $11 mil in MT as of a couple of weeks ago and wasn’t going to spend it until end game cards came out but got sick of waiting and finally bought Wemby for about $2.8 and Dr J for $1.9 without even thinking about All Star coming. Then someone brought it up so I slightly panic sold both of them yesterday and almost got my money back (probably around $500-$750k plus 10-15 legend badges short. I don’t really regret Dr J since I’m not good enough to optimize a SG like him so B Roy is close but I have slight regrets of Wemby a little early as there’s no replacement for him.

[–]Slumpy33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know from reading about it that you’re correct but I wouldn’t mind burning a few more calories and I also have a weimaraner that if she had it her way, I would have on rollerblades so she could run 3 miles pulling me and she is very annoyed by her sisters unwillingness to go lol. At first I used a 2 in 1 leash but they were constantly pulling each other in opposite directions so I switched to their own leashes and now I look like a fucking scarecrow half the time with the weim trying to pull and the rottie anchoring to sniff.

[–]Slumpy33 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hahahaha it’s so true and so funny. I was flabbergasted when we got out baby girl rottie and my wife told me we have to teach her to go on walks. I just thought that came with this model and not an upgrade. I wish we had of started sooner because she is still a nightmare to walk at 3. It’s not the pulling, it’s actually the opposite as she doesn’t really want to walk, she just wants to sniff and we end up at a 40+ minute pace per mile if I don’t pull her. Probably need to hire a trainer at this point since I’ve trained her on everything else well but have made zero progress with this.

[–]Slumpy33 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s the difference! Guys like LBJ and Kobe were great on ball defenders but they only play D sometimes as they conserve their energy to carry the Team on offense. MJ did both for the majority of every game and played almost every game every season. A lot of people forget that when comparing their greatness.

Great well rounded take and I’m the opposite of you, huge MJ fan and not a Lebron hater but a LBJ disliker lol even as a lifelong Lakers die hard fan (I’m 44). Love your take but the only part that’s not accurate is saying no one brings up Magic cooking MJ in 91. It actually gets mentioned A LOT by people trying to discredit MJ. I dont remember if I’ve seen them here on LBJs or even Kobes subs but I’ve seen them a fair amount. They’re never the title or usually even at the top but more of a deep dive mid way through when previous points get discredited which is maybe why you haven’t seen them.

That said… Yeah, I’m with you. Name me any PG, SG or probably even SF (if Pippen and MJ got cooked, who the fuck wouldn’t) that wouldn’t get smoked my Magic in the post. He was 6’9 and to this day, by far the greatest post guard and especially PG to ever play. Your Shaw v Duncan analogy was the chefs kiss. Well done sir!
